Bonnie & Clyde - The Original Natural Born Killers
In 1932-33 there was a small time criminal gang known as the Barrow gang, active in the surrounding area of Dallas. The gang were known and wanted for various crimes locally but worldwide notoriety was just around the corner for two members of the gang. In April 1933 police officers raided a house in Joplin, Missouri planning to bust bootleggers. However it wasn’t and was in fact the current hideout of the Barrow gang. The gang members fled so quickly that they had to leave behind all of their possessions including a camera full of undeveloped film. When that film was developed the photos were so explosive that a legend was born, the legend of Bonnie and Clyde. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

S6 Ep. 10 Rachel Manning - Miscarriage of Justice
Welcome to this week's episode, the case of the murder of Rachel Manning and the miscarriage of justice that followed. On a cold December evening in the year 2000 a young couple, Rachel and Barri had been to Barri's mum's 40th birthday party and then went out clubbing in town, after. In traditional style the evening ended with a kebab and a punch up before they went their separate ways home. Within an hour Barri received a phone call from Rachel, asking him for a lift as she was lost and was having difficulty getting a cab. Little did Barri know that this was the last time he would ever hear Rachel's voice, as shortly after she was abducted and murdered in a random attack, her body being found two days later. This was the beginning of a living nightmare for Barri and his friend Keith, who very shortly after would find themselves prime suspects for the brutal crime.Horrifyingly the pair were convicted and sent to prison for a crime they didn't commit on very little evidence. In despair Keith wrote to everyone he could think of for help, including the BBC program, Rough Justice. The team took on the case and after many years they finally managed to get the conviction overturned and the men walked free as innocent men. But if they hadn't killed Rachel then who had? Listen this week as Loz and Caz reveal the astonishing details behind this miscarriage of justice case. With credit to the brilliant documentary: Wrongly Accused : The Case of Barri WhiteWritten and Presented by Carol Whiffen & Lauren StruttPlease kindly give the show a rating or review on your chosen podcast platform as it really helps the podcast to reach new ears!Contact us at [email protected]://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubPhotography by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S6 Ep. 9 - John Cooper - The Bullseye Killer
Back in the 1980's Sunday night telly was dominated by the darts gameshow, Bullseye where contestants would play darts and answer questions in an attempt to win cash prizes and the jackpot prize of a speedboat or a car. In May 1989 a contestant from Pembrokeshire, Wales called John Cooper appeared, talking about his hobby of scuba diving around the gorgeous coastline. Sporting a truly incredible mullet, John and his team mate walked away empty handed that day, returning to their normal lives having experienced their 15 minutes of fame. The idyllic area of Pembrokeshire hid the fact that there had been a number of shocking and brutal crimes over the years including murder, robbery and rape. As the years went by a cold case team resurrected the unsolved cases and in 2006 began Operation Ottowa, determined to find the person responsible for two double murders. Thanks to advances in forensic technology and fastidious police work the net began to close around John Cooper. However the final piece of the jigsaw came when producers of Bullseye came forward with footage of Cooper and how he would have looked the day of the murders according to an eyewitness. Join your girls this week for a brilliant case that grew in infamy when it was made into the mini series The Pembrokeshire Murders.Credit to: The Crimewatch Years Special Edition The Bullseye MurdererWritten and Presented by Carol Whiffen & Lauren StruttPlease kindly give the show a rating or review on your chosen podcast platform as it really helps the podcast to reach new ears!Contact us at [email protected]://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubPhotography by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S6 Ep. 7 - Gordon Cummins - The Blackout Ripper
Hello and welcome to episode 7 of Bloody Britain and this week please allow Caz and Loz to take you back to Blitz torn London. The year is 1942 and Hitler is doing his best to annihilate Great Britain, with a relentless bombing campaign, known as 'The Blitz'. Londoners had to keep lighting to a minimum and everyone was ordered to keep the City of London in total darkness, so as to not create an obvious target for the Luftwaffe. Of course, total darkness is a criminals dream come true and domestic crime soared during this period. And for one week in February that year, the iconic streets of London's West End were stalked by a predator known as the Blackout Ripper. No woman was safe and in a very short amount of time the culprit, a fighter pilot called Gordon Cummins, would take the lives of four women and attack two more. S6 Ep. 6 - The White House Farm Murders
This week's episode is all about the case of the murders of the Bamber family at their home, White House Farm. It was the 1980's the time of the hedonistic Yuppy, where wealth was flashed and 'greed was good'. The adoptive son of the respectable Neville and June Bamber, Jeremy, was surely the quintessential city boy, rich, good looking, popular and charismatic. His sister, Sheila was a beautiful model, and mother of twin boys and was also part of the London party scene. Life appeared good for the Bamber family, at least on the surface, however underneath it all there lied mental illness, conflict and jealousy. One fateful August evening Jeremy received a frantic phone call from his father, begging for help as Sheila had gone mad with a shotgun at the farmhouse. When the police finally made their way inside it was a bloodbath, every single member of the family had been shot dead, including Sheila's twin sons and then it appeared that in a final act of desperation, Sheila had turned the gun on herself. The police quickly came to the conclusion of a murder - suicide, the tragic result of her psychological difficulties. Not long after the funeral, suspicions surrounding Jeremy grew until eventually he would be charged and convicted of the murders at the farmhouse. He remains in jail until this day and still protests his innocence, claiming to be a victim of injustice.Caz and Loz investigate this most complex case and ask, what do you think happened at White House Farm?Written and Presented by Carol Whiffen & Lauren StruttPlease kindly give the show a rating or review on your chosen podcast platform as it really helps the podcast to reach new ears!Credit to:The fab documentary The Bambers: Murder at the FarmContact us at [email protected]://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubPhotography by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S6 Ep. 5 - The Beast of Birkenshaw - Peter Manuel
Arguably, Peter Manuel was Scotland's first widely known serial killer and one of the last men to be hung for his crimes.Join us this week as Lozza and Cazza cover this case from the 1950's. It is a most heinous story of crime, robbery, murder.... and bizarrely, tinned fruit. Peter Manuel killed multiple young women and families and got away with it for far too long with help from his father who again and again alibied him. In the age old debate of nature vs nurture we think this is absolutely nature and that he was born bad.Written and Presented by Carol Whiffen & Lauren StruttPlease kindly give the show a rating or review on your chosen podcast platform as it really helps the podcast to reach new ears!Credit to:Dawn Young @scottishmurders podcast for the recommendationContact us at [email protected]://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubPhotography by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S5 Ep. 12 - John Wayne Gacy - The Killer Clown
It's series finale time Blue Murder Clubbers and as sad as we are to come to the end of our travels around the world, we are very excited to bring you this huge case, the case of the killer clown, John Wayne Gacy. The inspiration for Stephen King's IT and many other creepy clown stories, Gacy's crimes really were the stuff of nightmares.Born into a normal family in 1940's Chicago, Gacy struggled with his bi-sexuality from an early age, and never seemed to understand the concept of consent.Jailed in his 20's for a s-x crime, Gacy went on to commit more and more offences until he finally tipped over into murder, progressing quickly to serial murder. His crimes went undetected for years until the law finally caught up with him and the most gruesome discovery was made in the crawl space under his house - the decomposing bodies over nearly 30 young men and boys. Thanks for listening everyone and we will be back soon for series 6 💙💙Written and Presented by Carol Whiffen & Lauren StruttPlease kindly give the show a rating or review on your chosen podcast platform as it really helps the podcast to reach new ears! S5 Ep. 8 - Kim Jong-un - The Man, The Myth, The Killer
Hey hey you lovely bunch of true crime enthusiasts and welcome to this week's episode where we travel back to Asia, North Korea to be precise and bring you the ongoing dynasty of the Kim family. Kim Jong-un, the current dictator of North Korea is infamous globally for his eccentric ways, as well as his nuclear arms programme.Caz and Loz cover how it is to live in the most isolated and secretive country in the world. Spoiler it isn't much fun and you constantly run the risk of committing a crime, for example, having the wrong haircut and being sent to a forced labour camp or even executed. We also cover how the Kim dynasty came to be in place, how the country was torn in two at the end of the second world war, tearing families apart, and how grandfather Kim was portrayed as the saviour of the North Korean people and the self appointed, Supreme Leader.Since coming to power at the age of 28, Kim Jong-un has barely been out of the news. Although there is never enough solid proof, him and his regime have been hugely successful in espionage, cyber crime, human trafficking, forgery, you name it, and the money keeps pouring in to the Kim family coffers. More than enough for North Korea to fund a nuclear bomb programme that has ultimately made the "little rocket man" unstoppable. If you are enjoying the Pod, please leave us a review wherever you listen - L&CWritten and Presented by Lauren Strutt and Carol WhiffenContact us at [email protected]://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubPhotography by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu WhiffenWritten and Presented by Lauren Strutt and Carol WhiffenContact us at [email protected] by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S5 Ep. 3 Moses Sithole - The ABC Murderer
Hello and welcome to this week's episode of our current series, Around the World, where we take some of the most intriguing cases from all over the world to delve into, discuss and attempt to make sense of.This weeks episode takes us to South Africa in the 1990's. Moses Sithole has the dubious claim of being South Africa's most prolific serial killer or the South African Ted Bundy.Between 1993-94 he murdered at least 38 women and raped many more. He was named the ABC killer as the murders began in Atteridgeville, continued to Boksburg and finished in Cleveland, all suburbs of the big cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria.Against a backdrop of post-Apartheid South Africa, Moses Sithole caused a reign of fear and terror among the young women of the area and no could figure out why women were still happy to go off with him, even though all women were living in fear of becoming his next victim.Once captured it became known that he duped women into thinking they were attending a job interview, and as he was dressed so smartly and was so charming they trusted him and sadly were never seen again. If you are enjoying the Pod, please leave us a review wherever you listen - L&Chttps://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubWritten and Presented by Lauren Strutt and Carol WhiffenContact us at [email protected] by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S5 Ep. 2 Count Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès - The House of Terror
Hello and welcome to this week's episode of our current series, Around the World, where we take some of the most intriguing cases from all over the world to delve into, discuss and attempt to make sense of.In episode 2 we cover the case of the family annihilation (isn't it heart-breaking there is terminology for this) of French aristocrat, Count Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès. To their friends, family and everyone who knew them, the de Ligonnès family were a loving and close-knit unit. Consisting of the father, Xavier who had recently inherited the ancient family title of Count, his wife, Agnes who was a teaching assistant at the local Catholic school, and their four lovely children, Arthur, the eldest at age 20 who was studying at University, Thomas who was an 18-year-old student, Anne a beautiful and bright 16-year-old schoolgirl and finally, Benoit aged 14.That was until one day, after the whole family, who had been missing for almost three weeks were discovered buried under the back garden patio. When we say the whole family, there was actually one person missing - the patriarch - Xavier. When the police began their search they soon discovered that a couple of weeks earlier, Xavier had left his suburban home to take a trip down memory lane, revisiting his old haunts in the South of France, before ensuring he was seen entering a vast forest and mountain range, never to be seen again. After appearing in an episode of Netfilx's Unsolved Mysteries, it prompted the question, did he die out there or did he have a plan to get away and begin a new life somewhere far away? S5 Ep 1. Anders Brevik - The Norway Massacre
Aaaaaaaaand we're back for Series 5This time we have gone for the theme of crimes around the world and we have picked out two or three cases from each continent. To kick off series 5 we have began with the case of Anders Brevik, the far-right Norwegian terrorist who in 2011 went on a killing rampage which shocked the world. He began his campaign by detonating a home made bomb in the political centre of Norway's capital, Oslo, with the aim of killing as many Labour politicians including the Prime Minister, as possible.Once this mission was accomplished, dressed in the disguise of a policeman, he made his way to the island of Utoya where a Labour Youth summer camp was happening and for over an hour he stalked and killed as many children and young adults as he could find. Harrowing images captured from a news helicopter showed children desperately trying to swim to the mainland to safety and even showed the gunman picking off the children who were cowering on the shore of the island.By the time the authorities managed to reach the island he had shot and killed 69 people. The death toll at the city centre was eight people with over 200 injured.Brevik gave himself up peacefully and is still in prison today. S4 Ep 10. Tony Costa - The Cape Cod Vampire & UFO Abductions - AHS Double Feature
So here we are listeners, at the end of this series, 4, and true to American Horror Story Season 10, we have made a double feature for you!First we cover the case of Tony Costa, the Cape Cod Vampire, who in the 1960's committed a string of abductions and murders of young women. This was an idyllic time of peace and love and Cape Cod was a haven for free spirited young people to come and meet like-minded people, get high and have fun. Sadly some of these youngsters went to Tony's 'weed garden' and were never seen again. Once he was caught and the bodies were discovered, it was apparent just how depraved this killer was and when teeth marks were found he was forever to be known as the Cape Cod Vampire. For the second part of our double feature we have covered the case of Betty and Barney Hill, who, if they are to be believed, were abducted by aliens and made their fortune selling their story and even having a film made about their experience - even Loz finds this one hard to believe! We hope you have enjoyed this series and we will miss you all desperately until we're back with Series 5, so until then it is farewell and lots of love from L & C.Please kindly give the show a rating or review on your chosen podcast platform as it really helps the podcast to reach new ears!https://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubWritten and Presented by Lauren Strutt and Carol WhiffenContact us at [email protected] by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S4 Ep 9. Richard Ramirez - The Walk In Killer - AHS 1984
Hello you beautiful people and welcome to the penultimate episode of series 4, where each of our cases have been themed to each series of American Horror Story. So, this weeks case is gna be a rough-ride, and this case is NOT for the faint-hearted - you have been warned....Richard Ramirez AKA the night stalker (not to be confused with Delroy Grant, the British night stalker) drove terror into the hearts and minds of the residents of Los Angeles and San Francisco in the mid-80's. His MO? There was no MO. His victims? Anyone and everyone, young and old, male or female, any race and everyone in between. Ramirez was responsible for a one-man crime wave between 1984-85, sometimes killing for money, sometimes letting his victims live, sometimes just assaulting and killing for kicks.Because all of his crimes were so random it took the police a while to connect his crimes as the work of one man, but once they did the game was ON! Once they had a name and a mug shot photo, it was Ramirez vs the city of Angels, and believe us, the good citizens did themselves proud by capturing this vicious serial killer and holding him safely until the police came and arrested him.We really hope you enjoy listening and we will see you all next week for the series finale!Support BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubWritten and Presented by Lauren Strutt and Carol WhiffenContact us at [email protected] by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S4 Ep 8. Aileen Wuornos - The Damsel of Death - AHS Apocalypse
Well, hello and welcome to our eighth episode of series 4 which has been inspired by the brilliant TV show, American Horror Story. And this week's episode is about America's first female serial killer, Aileen Wuornos, AKA The Damsel of Death.Aileen's life was one of little opportunity or love. As a little girl she was abused by her family members and her school friends, in fact she would exchange sex for loose change and cigarettes at a very young age. At age 15 she had a baby boy and was forced to have him adopted and from that moment on she would have to fend for herself as she was thrown out of her home. This was when Aileen would begin working as a sex-worker, sleeping rough in the woods while still trying to finish high school. She eventually hitch-hiked her way to the warmer climate of Florida and supported herself by working as a sex-worker.After serving three years in prison for armed robbery (she stole $35 while wearing a bikini), she met and fell in love with Tyria Moore. This relationship meant the world to Aileen and she would do anything to keep Tyria happy, including selling herself for money. However this form of employment is notoriously dangerous and one fateful evening Aileen was attacked by one of her customers and killed him in self defence. This incident appeared to trigger something in her, and thus began a year of murder and theft and by the time the police caught up with Aileen, she had killed seven men. This is quite a decisive case, was Aileen a victim and acting in self defence or was she, as the FBI claimed, America's first female serial killer?Support BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubWritten and Presented by Lauren Strutt and Carol WhiffenContact us at [email protected] by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S4 Ep 7. Heavens Gate - The Cult of Cults - AHS Cult
Hello and welcome to this weeks show, and we have taken inspiration from American Horror Story Season 7, Cult. Lozza and Cazza delve into the world of the 'cult of cults', Heavens Gate. This was an American cult that had began in the 1970's with co-founders Bonnie Lu Nettles and Marshall Applewhite. The two of them were very open minded to the New Age wave that had swept the US, and also had strong beliefs about extra terrestrial life. In fact the basis of the Heavens Gate cult was that once you had completed the Class and reached the Next Level you would board a spaceship and be carried off to heaven, which they believed was a physical place and that it was possible to see it if only there was a telescope powerful enough. As the years went by and no spaceship arrived, the narrative of Heavens Gate evolves, especially after Bonnie Lu dies of cancer and then in the mid-90's the Hale Bopp comet arrives in the night sky and for the members of Heavens Gate this can only mean one possible thing, the spaceship has finally arrived to take them off planet Earth and away to the promised land. They all believed that to reach the spaceship they had to leave their human 'vessels' behind and one by one they recorded goodbye messages and then committed mass suicide. Your girls try to figure out why this seemingly harmless cult ended in such tragedy and take a look at the cult phenomenon in general.Support BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubWritten and Presented by Lauren Strutt and Carol WhiffenContact us at [email protected] by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S4 Ep 6. Cathy Wood & Gwen Graham - The Lethal Lovers - AHS Roanoke
In this weeks episode we are going back to the '80's where apparently it was acceptable... We take up the case that inspired one of the storylines of AHS Roanoke, the case of the lethal lovers, Cathy Wood and Gwen Graham, two young nurses who concocted a game of murder that would interlink and entwine them forever.... and five days.Back in 1987 these two young women met at the nursing home they worked at and began dating. The relationship quickly became toxic and abusive and within a matter of months Gwen had had enough and left Cathy with her new girlfriend and moved thousands of miles away back to her home town in Texas. A year later Cathy would make a somewhat unbelievable confession to her ex-husband which would lead to a shocking discovery by police. One of multiple murder of the elderly patients they were supposed to be caring for, and the callous game of trying to spell out MURDER with the first names of each of their victims. This is one of those cases that leaves you wondering who was telling the truth and was the right woman convicted? S4 Ep 5. H H Holmes - The Murder Mansion - AHS Hotel
Hello and welcome to the 1890's. This week we are taking you back to the Chicago World Fair and the murder mansion of H H Holmes, the inspiration for American Horror Story Season 5, Hotel. In this huge case we cover the life and crimes of Dr. Holmes, a habitual criminal who would stop at nothing to make money. His MO was to take out life insurance policies on all who came into contact with him, kill them and claim the insurance money. However he would go down in history as the cunning brain behind the vast hotel he built for the World's Columbian Exposition which attracted thousands of people from all over the country and would need a place to stay. As his story unravelled, the police would search this building to find some of the rooms had gas pipes to gas people to death, some had spy holes and some of the rooms even had a chute that led straight down to the basement where Holmes would dispose of the bodies in his incinerator or quick lime. This hotel was a bit of a maze, where you would find a staircase leading to nowhere or a room with no door, the stuff of nightmares. We hope you will join us on this incredible story, thanks for listening! Please kindly give the show a rating or review on your chosen podcast platform as it really helps the podcast to reach new ears!https://linktr.ee/bluemurderclubSupport BMC on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/BluemurderclubFollow BMC on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bluemurderclubFollow BMC on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueMClubFollow BMC on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/BluemurderClubWritten and Presented by Lauren Strutt and Carol WhiffenContact us at [email protected] by Jessica GeorgeArtwork by Stu Whiffen Hosted on Acast. S4 Ep 4. Joseph Merrick - The Elephant Man - AHS Freak Show
This week's case is based on AHS Season 4, Freak Show and we have chosen to cover the life of Joseph Merrick, stage name The Elephant Man. As a child Joseph was a happy if somewhat shy little boy who was extremely close with his mother. However as he grew he started to show signs of physical deformities, starting with a small growth on his forehead. Over the years the growth became so big that he started to wear a sack over his head as the very sight of him would instil fear and terror into those whose saw him. Eventually his whole body would be consumed with skin and bone abnormalities which left the young man with very few options and following the death of his beloved mother he had no option other than the workhouse. These places were notoriously grim and were no more than a last choice before living on the streets and begging. He lived here for a number of years until one day he heard of a travelling show where he could earn good money exhibiting himself. Thus followed years of living with the showmen and fellow performers, in various freak shows and exhibitions where he could finally live an independent life. Sadly his conditions would take over to the point where he moved in with a physician, Sir Frederick Treves, at the London Hospital. Here he was introduced to London high society and even had a trip to the theatre. His life ended tragically early and he was discovered dead from asphyxiation, caused by the weight of his head as he lay down, and a dislocated neck at the age of 27. S4 Ep 2. Josef Mengele - The Angel Of Death - AHS Asylum
Hello and welcome to this weeks episode, the case of Nazi doctor and scientist, Josef Mengele. In the 1940's, as a fully fledged member of the Nazi Party and eager student of the pseudo-science, Eugenics, the young Dr. Mengele couldn't wait for his posting at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Every day he would be seen on his raised platform, carrying out selections on the railway platform, selecting who would live as a slave in the force labour camp and who would go to the gas chamber with just a flick of his whip. During this process he was always on the lookout for pairs of twins. This would save a number of children from immediate death, but at the cost of becoming one of 'Uncle Josef's' children and being in the terrifying position of becoming a human guinea pig while in his care. Many of these children would go off with him never to return again, or to return to their mother's having been deliberately infected with various contagious diseases or having hideous operations conducted on them. After the war Mengele would escape punishment and eventually flee to live a life of happiness and comfort in South America and his surviving victims would never see this monster brought to justice.
