Celebrating the National Day of Prayer and Deification
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (05/05/22), Hank discusses the quintessential issue of prayer, noting that today is the National Day of Prayer, a day when people are asked to turn to God in prayer and meditation. One of the principal ways in which we thank the Lord and communicate with Him is through the Prayer of Jesus, also known as the Lord’s Prayer. While you may be familiar with this prayer, each word counts. And so, Hank goes over the Lord’s Prayer in-depth so that you may understand each word and its meaning so that this prayer will become so much more significant to you. Hank also gives a detailed description of Saint Ephrem the Syrian and explicates deification, a topic that he covers in-depth in his book, Truth Matters, Life Matters More.Get your copy of Hank's book The Prayer of Jesus here: https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resources-prayer-of-jesus-softcover-book-journal-and-dvd/

Bind Kindness and Truth Around Your Neck, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/29/22), Hank reads from Proverbs 3, which the Lord kept flooding through his mind earlier in the day, emphasizing verse 3, which says, “Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.”Hank also answers the following questions:How can I know if I have truly forgiven my estranged friend?Do you view the doctrine of the "real substance" as an essential doctrine? My question is about Proverbs 30:4. What is the Old Testament understanding of God having a Son?Do you believe that the Trinity, or Godhead was broken when Christ was crucified? Is it our job as Christians to make people aware of their sins?Is it wrong for me to continue to go to and support a church that follows the dispensational view of Scripture?

Q&A: Identifying the Prophet in John 1:21, Lordship Salvation, and God’s Chosen People
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/28/22), Hank answers the following questions:I've been memorizing the gospel of John. What is the identity of the prophet in John 1:21?An ossuary is claimed to have contained the bones of Caiaphas. Wouldn't those bones actually belong to a son of Caiaphas?Could you explain the saints who were raised from their graves as mentioned in Matthew 27?Have you heard of the phrase "Lordship Salvation"? Can you tell me what that is?I don't understand how God's chosen people didn’t accept Jesus Christ and what that means for them. Could you help me with that?

Q&A: Papal Supremacy, Addictions, and Jesus Carrying His Cross
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/27/22), Hank answers the following questions:I am thinking of leaving the Roman Catholic church and joining the Orthodox church. Could you provide any evidence against the supremacy of the Pope? Are there any particular scriptures you could point me to that deal with addictions—specifically the addiction of smoking? After the resurrection when Mary encounters Jesus, what does He mean when He tells her not to cling to Him?Where did the giants after the flood come from?Have you heard of the Hebrew Roots movement? The scriptural references to the Passover indicate that it is to be kept forever. Why don't we observe the Passover?Could you explain the portion of Ephesians 5:26 that deals with cleansing by the water of the word?Where do you find in the scriptures that Jesus fell three times while carrying the cross?

Celebrating Pascha—the Culmination of Holy Week
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/26/22), Hank concludes his overview of the days of Holy Week, arriving at Pascha—also known as Easter. It is the day in which the body of Christ worldwide celebrates the ultimate game-changer—the resurrection of Jesus Christ. “If I face hardships in life for merely human reasons,” wrote Paul in his first letter to the Corinthian Christians, “what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, ‘Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.’ If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.” Without resurrection, Christianity crumbles. Thus, in 1 Corinthians chapter 15, the apostle Paul provides a four-part argument underscoring the irrevocable reality of Christ’s resurrection. Of one thing Hank has become certain—if twenty-first-century Christians would grasp the reality of resurrection like first-century Christians did, their lives would be totally transformed.

Observing Holy Saturday, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/25/22), Hank resumes his overview of the days of Holy Week, arriving at Holy Saturday, which was observed by the Eastern Church this past weekend and the Western Church the week prior. Holy Saturday marks one of the most enigmatic of all mysteries—the mystery of Christ’s descent into Hades. Being “put to death in the body,” says Peter, he was “made alive by the spirit through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it, only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also.” Peter here reminds us of two great and glorious truths. First, that we are saved through water, and secondly that the descent of Christ into Hades inaugurates resplendent triumph. A triumph by which Christ “tramples down death by death.”Hank also answers the following questions:When a person is baptized, do they become a new creation right away, or is it an ongoing process? What provision does the Bible make for young children or some adults who don’t have the mental capacity to accept Christ?I have a cross pendant that has discolored over time. I bought a replacement, but what should I do with the old one?

Best of BAM Q&A: Mental Disorders, Covenant People, and Cleansing of the Temple
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank answers the following questions:Is taking medication for my mental illness evidence that I am not a true Christian? Is it possible that a schizoaffective disorder is a spiritual problem rather than a medical problem? What are your thoughts on people such as Jews or Black Hebrew Israelites who believe they are good based on a covenant with God, rather than through Jesus Christ? Were there other people besides the Jews who wrote about Jesus during His time on earth? What message was Jesus wanting to convey during His cleansing of the Temple? Does this have any application to churches today?I am being pulled in two different directions regarding which church I should attend. Do you have any advice?

Holy Friday: Remembering the Fatal Torment of Jesus Christ
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/22/22), Hank picks up his overview of the days of Holy Week, arriving at Holy Friday, the day a united Church is brought face-to-face with the fatal torment of Jesus Christ. A torment that began in the garden of Gethsemane following the emotional Last Supper of Holy Thursday. That night Jesus was betrayed by Judas, disowned by Peter, and arrested by the temple guard. Before Caiaphas the high priest, he was mocked, beaten, and spat upon. The next morning Jesus—battered, bruised, and bleeding—was stripped and subjected to the brutality of Roman flogging, reducing his body to quivering ribbons of bleeding flesh. As Christ slumped into the pool of his own blood, soldiers threw a scarlet robe across his shoulders, thrust a scepter into his hands, and pressed sharp thorns into his scalp. After they mocked him, they took the scepter and repeatedly struck him on the head. A heavy wooden beam was thrust upon his bleeding body and he was led away to a place called Golgotha. There, the Lord of glory experienced ultimate physical torture in the form of the cross.Today as we remember the passion of the Christ upon the cross, as we recall his dying words “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit” we are reminded that we too will breathe our last. Whether we are old or young, rich or poor, male or female, we light the sky for the briefest of moments. And then eternity. In the meantime, what we do today will have direct consequences for all eternity. Thus, while the culture seeks to focus your gaze on greatness, Christ rightly focuses your gaze on grace and godliness.

Celebrating Holy Thursday
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/21/22), Hank resumes his overview of Holy Week with Holy Thursday, the epicenter of the divine narrative. A narrative that begins with the tree of life in the garden of Eden. If Adam and Eve had rejected the serpent, they would have eaten from the tree of life and the tree of knowledge would not have been withheld from them. Instead, they were exiled from the Edenic garden and from traversing the slope leading upward toward the peak of deification. Thankfully, the narrative does not end there. For in the panoply of history a Second Adam clothed himself in fallen humanity. It was above all in his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead that Christ returned humanity to the life of Eden. This then is the great arc of the biblical narrative. From the tree of life in the Edenic garden to the tree of life in the eternal garden. An arch that finds its apex with the Eucharistic bounty spilling forth from the trodden grapes of Golgotha’s hill. The Last Supper that we commemorate on Holy Thursday constitutes the central mystery of the Church. It is the source and zenith of Church life. By it, we are changed from human multiplicity to one body in Christ, the temple of the Holy Spirit. Within the Eucharistic assembly, divine life flows into us and penetrates the fabric of our humanity. The future life is infused into the present one and is blended with it, so that our fallen humanity may be transformed into the glorified humanity of the new Adam, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Celebrating Holy Tuesday, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/19/22), Hank continues to highlight the days of Holy Week. On Holy Tuesday we commemorate the Parable of the Ten Virgins as found in Matthew chapter 25. In this parable—this extended simile with extraordinary sharp teeth—the coming of Christ is likened to the coming of the bridegroom to the home of his bride during the sacramental ritual of marriage. In the narrative of the parable, there are ten virgins—five wise and five foolish. The five wise virgins are illustrative of those who practice almsgiving and mercy. The five foolish represent those who selfishly squander God’s provisions upon themselves. In the end, the bridegroom arrives and the five who were prepared went in with him to the eternal wedding banquet. And then, says Jesus “the door was shut.” To the five foolish virgins who belatedly asked for the door to be opened the bridegroom replied, “I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.”Hank also answers the following question:My son struggles with knowing that he’s saved. He said that he’s prayed and prayed but doesn’t feel like he hears from God. What can I say to him?

Examining the Majesty of Holy Week, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/18/22), Hank focuses on Holy Week, with Christians in the Eastern Church celebrating Palm Sunday yesterday while Christians in the West celebrated Christ’s resurrection, concluding their Holy Week. Holy Week for Christians both in the East and West begins the day before Palm Sunday. It’s the day christened by the ancient Church, Lazarus Saturday. It is on that day that we remember afresh that our Lord Jesus Christ raised Lazarus, a historical reality that points forward to the universal resurrection of all humanity. The next day, Palm Sunday marks the commemoration of Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem announced the establishment of the Kingdom of God and a foretaste of the time that He will gather His perfected bride and carry her over the threshold of Jordan into the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. On Holy Monday, the fig tree is set before us as a reminder of the danger inherent in having an appearance of godliness but being devoid of its reality. A reminder to be vigilant and bear fruits of righteousness and repentance.Hank also answers the following questions:If you believe that salvation is “once saved, always saved,” would this mean your free will no longer exists? To me, the term replacement theology seems to be an accurate term as opposed to a misnomer, would you not say?

How do I get my son to be more involved in these discussions? Why is our loving God so violent?Sins are not all the same, are they? How was the Bible put together in the form it is?How much can one preach the gospel correctly and yet be incorrect on the necessity of confessing their sins? Why does the church have such a hard time ministering to the intellectually handicapped?

Good Friday—The Fatal Torment of Jesus Christ
On this special Good Friday edition of the Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/15/22), Hank focuses on why it is that we celebrate the death of Jesus Christ upon the cross, and not only His atoning death for our sins but His glorious resurrection, without which we have no hope. The fatal torment of the historical Christ is one of the most well-established facts of antiquity. The Lord Jesus died for our sins according to the Scriptures; the tomb was empty on the third day; He was seen by many eyewitnesses, and His miraculous resurrection transformed the lives of His followers.

Bad Answers, Spy Wednesday, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/13/22), Hank discusses an article in USA Today titled, “Pandemic Spurs Big Questions Around Faith” by Lindsay Schnell. The article features Christian theologian Thomas Jay Oord, who is attempting to answer the question, “if God is good, why does the coronavirus exist?” According to Oord, there are a lot of bad answers to that question. The real answer—according to Oord—is that God cannot prevent the coronavirus without our participation and cooperation. This, says Oord, is the only tenable option in that it coheres with the overarching maxim that God is love. But is Oord right? Or is he badly mistaken? In the second segment of the broadcast, Hank notes the observance of Spy Wednesday in the Western Church, a day in which we remember the ultimate betrayal—Judas’ betrayal of Jesus for a mere thirty pieces of silver.Hank also answers the following question:What does God mean when He says that He is a jealous God? My friend thinks that means that God is all-too-human and therefore not worthy of worship. How should I respond?
28:0113/04/2022
Cleansing of the Temple, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/12/22), Hank mentions that we are in the midst of Holy Week. The gospels record Jesus entering the Temple area and driving out the moneychangers, and those selling animals. John records Jesus cleansing the Temple at the beginning of His ministry. Matthew, Mark, and Luke mention Jesus cleansing the Temple at the end of His ministry. How do we account for this? The gospel writers present complementary narratives, not identical narratives. None of these writers even hint that Christ only cleansed the Temple once. Not every action Jesus took was written down.Hank also answers the following questions:Can you clarify Psalm 139 for me? It says that all of our days are planned for us. How does God's knowledge play into our choices?I understand the Nicene creed predates the New Testament scriptures. What scriptures were this creed based on?Were there other people besides the Jews who wrote about Jesus during His time on earth? What message was Jesus wanting to convey during His cleansing of the Temple? Does this have any application to churches today?I am being pulled in two different directions regarding which church I should attend. Do you have any advice?

Q&A: Mental Disorders, Flat Earth, and the Long Ending of Mark
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/11/22), Hank answers the following questions:Is taking medication for my mental illness evidence that I am not a true Christian? Is it possible that a schizoaffective disorder is a spiritual problem rather than a medical problem? What are your thoughts on people such as Jews or Black Hebrew Israelites who believe they are good based on a covenant with God, rather than through Jesus Christ?I have a good friend who believes in the Flat Earth view, and I'm losing the ability to pray with her. What are your thoughts on this?My brother holds to the Serpent Seed beliefs and listens to Steve Quayle. I'm trying to find a way to show him that the bible does not teach this. What are the Nephilim?I've been thinking about Mark 16:9-20. Should that passage be in our bibles?

Best of BAM: The Jesus Game and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank highlights the importance of his book The Third Day and the DVD The Week That Changed the World by Dr. Paul Maier. In past decades we have seen an outpouring of sensationalistic books, movies, and TV shows that make the life and ministry of Jesus barely recognizable. Dr. Maier calls this the “Jesus Game.” Winning or losing this game depends on how radically different the portrait of Jesus is from the historic Gospel narratives. The prize is maximum coverage and recognition, and any frowns from the faithful are ignored amid the skyrocketing sales. This is the culture we live in and the antidote is truth.Hank also answers the following questions:My son rejected Christianity and now says he’s agnostic, and I’m wondering about his soul.Do Muslims and Christians worship the same God?Is Oneness Pentecostalism and their denial of the Trinity a heresy?Could you give me some insight on the teaching of Ray Hagin and this idea of Afrocentrism?

Q&A: God’s Violence, Praying for Healing, and the Triumphal Entry of Jesus
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/08/22), Hank answers the following questions:My son goes to a Jesuit high school and I try to teach him the Bible at home, but he seems disinterested. How do I get my son to be more involved in these discussions? Why is our loving God so violent?Sins are not all the same, are they? How was the Bible put together in the form it is?My son has stage 4 colon cancer. I know God is good, but why does my son continue to get worse despite many people praying for him?A skeptic is questioning the date of the Triumphal Entry. According to him, there would not have been enough palm fronds available. What are your thoughts on this? Can you point me in the direction of the evidence that the Old Testament writers were led by the Holy Spirit just as the New Testament writers were?

Q&A: Gay Marriage, Abortion, and Unreached People Groups
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/07/22), Hank answers the following questions:Is it wrong to continue to attend services at a church that has accepted gay marriage?A couple of women in my church go to the abortion clinic and hold up pictures and hand out tracts. What would be a better way to get women at the clinics to see Jesus? Is there life after death in the sense that the departed one can contact the living, or are these experiences demonic? Is it possible for miracles, evangelization, and conversions to occur in places that have not heard of the Lord?

Q&A: Modern-Day Prophecy, Calling Ourselves Sinners, and Communion
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/06/22), Hank answers the following questions:What are your thoughts about the seven churches of Asia Minor in the book of Revelation? Is there such a thing as modern-day prophecy?Once we are born again, we become new creatures in Christ. Although we may sin, is it proper to still refer to ourselves as sinners?I was listening to a program and they mentioned a letter supposedly from Paul called The Apocalypse of Paul. 28:0105/04/2022
The Necessity of Confessing Sins, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/04/22), Hank laments the fact that so many today have lost the ability to think biblically. Having lost this ability, post-truth moderns are being quickly transformed from change agents to cultural conformists. One example is that many Christian leaders are telling their devotees not to keep confessing their sins. Yet in the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus instructs us to confess our sins. In Psalm 51, David asks God to cleanse him from sin, and James tells us to confess our sins to one another and to God. And we know that “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”Hank also answers the following questions:I know the Old Testament prohibits eating pork; does the New Testament say anything about this? How can I forgive and honor my parents when they were abusive?Acts chapter 15 says we should abstain from eating blood; would that include blood pudding or blood sausage? How much can one preach the gospel correctly and yet be incorrect on the necessity of confessing their sins? Why does the church have such a hard time ministering to the intellectually handicapped?

Best of BAM: Biblical Metaphors and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank discusses the biblical metaphor of fire. In the Scriptures, fire can be both real and metaphorical. God’s throne is said to be aflame with fire. John tells us that the seven lamps of fire symbolize the seven spirits of God. James tells us that the tongue is a fire and is set on fire by hell. The Bible uses the word fire to describe jealousy as well as unbridled passion. So, when we read the Bible literally, it means we must read it in the sense in which it’s intended.Hank also answers the following questions:My eight-year-old daughter wants to accept Jesus; what do you think about this?My church never comments on anything political, either for or against. What is your position on this?Do you think extraterrestrials exist? What is your view of Ezekiel chapters 40-48?What are your thoughts on the different approaches to science taken by Ken Ham, Kent Hovind, Hugh Ross, and Francis Collins?

Debunking The Miracle Myth, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/01/22), Hank discusses a book titled The Miracle Myth: Why Belief in the Resurrection and the Supernatural Is Unjustified by Larry Shapiro. In the book, Shapiro paints a portrait of Christ that rules out the supernatural. His pseudo-historical information is garnered from Bart Ehrman and Richard Carrier, a fringe scholar who believes the historical Christ never existed. Shapiro ignores the apostle Paul and the creed found in 1 Corinthians chapter 15, which is early and free from legendary contamination. Here we have a man who wins the “Jesus Game,” but loses the week that changed the world.Hank also answers the following questions:What are your thoughts on Rahab’s lie? The narrative seems to indicate that she wins favor with the Lord. When people die, are they really in the presence of the Lord? What happened to Lazarus? What are your thoughts on Sozo prayer ministry? Can you clarify the issue of lying? Was Jacob right to deceive Isaac into giving him the birthright? Will there be time in eternity, or will we always be in the present?

The Growing Number of Gender Identities, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (03/29/22), Hank discusses an article in Time Magazine titled “Beyond He or She” which tells how a growing number of young people are rejecting merely two forms of gender. Many are identifying as gender-fluid, and the idea that God made us male and female has been abandoned. Those who are on board with this notion are considered experts and enlightened and those who disagree are considered to be trolls. So, with as many Christians as there are in the culture, why isn’t there a more significant impact? The Bible is clear on gender; therefore, we must not yield our consciences to political correctness.Hank also answers the following questions:With things as dark as they are, has the end of the age come? Is the Holy Spirit still at work in the world? My sister is engaged to a male who is transitioning into a female. Do you have any advice?I have always lived with fear and guilt because I left a particular group. Am I allowed to reject this spirit attacking me?

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (03/24/22), Hank discusses the biblical metaphor of fire. Best of BAM: The Historical Evidence for Jesus, and Q&A
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank begins with a Facebook question from Jesse whose faith has been shaken and asks if there is really historical evidence for Jesus. While there is spin that has been produced by second and third-century documents, there is also early, credible evidence from historians such as Josephus, Tacitus, Suetonius, and Plinius. Tacitus, one of the greatest Roman historians of the first century, provides authentic historical evidence for the crucifixion of Christ at the hands of Pontius Pilate. In fact, we can piece together highlights of the life of Jesus completely apart from the biblical text.Hank also answers the following questions:Do the Old Testament dietary laws still apply to us today? Should we remove pork from our diets? Is it okay to hate Satan? Can you clarify the idea of life and death being in the power of the tongue in Proverbs 18:21?What is your take on Marilyn Hickey’s idea of the gospel in the stars?Could you speak to the spiritual abuse of the Charismatic and Word of Faith movements?Must Christians repeatedly confess their sins to God?

The Role of Living Disciplines
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (03/11/22), Hank resumes going over the discipline of fasting, nearing the end of the first week of Lent. Living disciplines such as fasting characterized the life of Jesus. So too, they must characterize ours. Every year millions make confessions of faith, but there’s a problem. Their habits of life are appreciably the same after conversion as they were before because of the accumulated deposits of life experiences that remain entrenched in their embodied selves. We may have correct inner beliefs, but lacking a full measure of the authentic Christian life, we stumble in the moment of truth. How different our Lord. When the Pharisees and teachers of the law threatened to undo Him, He exhibited an otherworldly calm—a peace in the midst of the storm. Such peace is accessible to us as well. Not by asking what Jesus would do in this or that circumstance, but by doing what Jesus did throughout the entirety of our lives. Such is the role of living disciplines. Willpower is insufficient to eradicate the layers of sin embedded in our embodied selves. Living disciplines can do what force of will cannot. They are the means through which we may sow to the Spirit instead of sowing to the sinful nature.

The Primary Purpose of Fasting
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (03/10/22), Hank continues to expound fasting, a living discipline by which we master our appetites so that we may partake of heavenly manna. Jesus desired for the disciples to understand nourishment on a higher plane. They were acquainted with the energy that is derived from food; Jesus acquainted them with the energy that comes from the Father. The disciples gained a glimpse of this otherworldly reality on the Mount of Transfiguration. There Peter, James, and John were witnesses to a dazzling display of uncreated energy. The face of Christ “shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.” They were eyewitnesses to the transfigured majesty of the One who like Moses and Elijah had fasted from food and feasted on a far more substantial reality. Jesus had previously explained the dynamics of energy on a higher plane. On Mount Sinai they experienced it. This then is the primary purpose of fasting. To experience God as the source and substance of life that is truly life. To taste the heavenly manna. To drink divine water so as to never thirst again. To recognize union with Christ as the apex of human existence.

The Spiritual Discipline of Fasting
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (03/09/22), Hank continues talking about fasting, which is one of the spiritual disciplines that transform us, and all too often gets neglected. In considering the subject of fasting, one cannot help but think of one of the most wicked cities of antiquity. Its wickedness so pronounced it had become a stench in the nostrils of the Almighty. Thus, God commissioned the prophet Jonah to go to Nineveh. There he proclaimed that the great city would be utterly destroyed. In sober response, the Ninevites proclaimed a fast, “and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.” “When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened” (Jonah 3:5, 10 NIV). And the great Assyrian city is not alone. Many nations throughout history have fasted and prayed for the mercy of God, including the United States of America. The normal human mode of existence depends on the ingestion, digestion, and metabolism of food and water. As Jesus makes plain, however, there is an alternate energy supply. This He referred to when He spoke to the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well: “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” Shortly thereafter, “His disciples urged him, ‘Rabbi, eat something.’ But He said to them, ‘I have food to eat that you know nothing about’” (John 4:13-14, 31-32). This was the way of the Master. Communicating spiritual realities by means of earthly, empirically perceptible realities—what might best be described as living metaphors.
