About Today’s GuestsDr. Tina Atherall brings her vast experience and leadership in the military non-profit community and academia to PsychArmor. In 2006, she co-founded Hope For The Warriors, an organization dedicated to serving combat wounded servicemembers and their families. Scaling a grass-roots effort to a national platform, she worked extensively with various levels of military leadership, agencies, corporations, and communities educating and advocating for critical support for those who have served and their families. She has embedded her career in the field of social work innovation and leadership and obtained her Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from the University of Southern California. Her recent work focuses on the 12 Grand Challenges for Social Work to eradicate social isolation specifically the challenges of military family social isolation. As an adjunct faculty, her love for PsychArmor began while utilizing the PAI educational videos to enhance teaching social work practice with military and their families to Masters of Social Work students in New York City.As PsychArmor’s CEO, Tina will continue the mission of bridging the military-civilian divide. She has fresh ideas to strengthen PsychAmor’s pivotal role as the “go to” place for employers, healthcare providers, educators, volunteers, municipalities, service providers, government workers, caregivers and communities to learn about how to better serve our military Veterans.Carole Turner joined PsychArmor in her 29th year as a military spouse, having moved 12 times (so far) and supporting family readiness activities at 2nd Bn, 5th Marines; 3rd Bn, 7th Marines; the Fifth Marine regiment; MCAGCC Twentynine Palms and the First Marine Division. Carole attended the University of Maryland, graduating in 1990 with a B.A. in English and a B.S. in Journalism. Early work experiences include a communications position at a credit union, editor of several trade publications, and art director of a specialty car magazine. In a search for a career better suited to life as a Marine Corps spouse, Carole went back to school and earned a teaching certificate and a Masters of Education, Curriculum and Instruction, from George Mason University in 1997.Carole began volunteering with Hope for the Warriors in 2008 then transitioned to a part-time Public Relations position. Most recently, she spent five years as the Communications Director of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Arlington, VA. She spends as much time as she can with other military spouses, reflected in her volunteer roles including board positions on the JAFOWL (Joint Armed Forces of Washington Luncheon) committee, the Navy Marine Corps Ball Committee, the Desert Leadership Seminar, the Leadership Education Seminar, and multiple local spouse organizations. Carole currently resides aboard Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Oceanside, CA but remains ready for the next move.
