And we see people rising up with great acts of beauty. So I feel like comics really do that. We create moments that lift spirits. And when you lift a spirit and that spirit moves away from you and goes to the next moment, you don't know what spirits they're going to lift."

It's about telling stories, right? You think of the great comedians out there. You don't remember jokes per se, but you remember punchlines, you remember stories, you remember things that they said while they're telling a story. So that. That's what I think."

The one I've included in this is from Rolling Stone magazine, who's quite reputable. And I feel like all of the media, even Fox, had something to say about it that was not praiseworthy, which is pretty funny considering what we're talking about. Right."

But once I turned 18, 21, I was going to a lot of shows in Los Angeles. The Comedy Store, the Improv, the Laugh Factory. Whenever there was something that I wanted to go to, I would try to go out of my way and get there."

And I think the climate in our world right now is not, no, just leave it on stage as a joke. I think we're at a time where there's no distinction between entertainment and news anymore. This, like, shock factor things that I've heard, these, like, grotesque things that are happening on stage at Skank Fest. It's just not my scene at all. And it's a real bummer to see those videos and to see him talking about, I mean, just spewing hate speech."

I just thought, oh, it's meta. It's ironic. But I have to say, seeing him on stage at an actual Trump rally, like, shilling for him, was just so disappointing. And all of a sudden, these jokes didn't feel like jokes at all."

We have this new bucket slot that we put up, so our comic friends will come and be there, and they get showcased, and they get guaranteed spots on our next shows. So there's just, like, so much magic happening in the room during the show, but then the camaraderie and the community that is building in sort of the before and in between and after times of the show, it's just."

I think that, you know, not everything that happens to us in life, it comes out perfectly formed and perfectly funny. We. It's our job to make a joke, so we gotta punch it up, which means we have to, you know, give it a funny, lean opinion, perspective, whatever."

I recently told a friend of mine, a couple friends, actually, we were having dinner after we had gone to try to get onto the potluck at the comedy store, and we were having hot dogs at Carney's, and I was saying how it felt like I needed to have these sort of crates of armor that it's like a box that I pull out before I have to show up to a stand up event."

I think there are motivations that come from so many different places within this, you know, nurture part of what makes us who we are as comedians. But I think the one universal truth is that the greatest feeling in the world is making people laugh. So that in and of itself is the drug folks."

And comedically speaking, it can strike anywhere. Anybody. You know, I've seen, typically people I consider unfunny have moments of pure brilliance on stage. So it ebbs and flows. I think the, there's a healthy balance between the two of them."

Ultimately, I think they serve a purpose in the economic structure of the comedy business, certainly for promoters and clubs. I also think they serve a purpose in a young comedian's career as well. They give you a chance to build confidence and a lot of times on stages that otherwise you would have no business being on."

I think that goes for everybody. Probably not just comedians I know. You know, a lot of comedians I know deal with trauma by making jokes and laughing about it. This is the hugged a lot as a kid, which I assume doesn't mean you were molested. Like, boundary crossed. But I do recall seeing interviews with Tina Fey, separate interviews, Mindy Kaling. And then I just read Leann Morgan's book, you know, all three hilarious women with such clear points of view, so successful, so funny."

But the last few years, I pepper my life with going on stage, but it's not a regular thing. And I bring that up because I think when you're really jamming and doing it a lot, you've got, like, uniforms that you just throw on and, you know, they work."

And for me, stand up comedy has been the first pure form of not needing to ask for permission. There's no middlemen or women. It's just you in the audience, and if you're funny, you know, they'll laugh."

And they did, except for one male comic who got up after me, very famous back in his day comic, and made a point of saying, I hate the word vagina. It's disgusting. I like the word pussy. Tight pussy."
