Media Call: Wisconsinites At Risk of Leaving Millions on the Table this Tax Season County and City-level numbers to be released showing amount of federal funds available in region if eligible residents claim Earned Income Tax Credit. Citizen Action of Wisconsin and State Representative Daniel Riemer will host a media call to release how over $200 million in additional revenue will not enter the Wisconsin economy unless all eligible residents claim large tax rebates targeted to working families, and what can be done to bring this money in. Data showing the amount of money on the table will be released for all Wisconsin counties and major metro areas. There is a growing recognition that our communities cannot thrive when workers hold lower-wage economy-busting jobs. When working families can afford the basics, they are able to spend money at local businesses, generating more jobs and more prosperity. Participants on the conference call share how local governments and organizations across the state are pushing to help residents raise their incomes by promoting these tax credits in English and Spanish. Language barriers are one of the major barriers to bringing in higher tax rebates.

Media Call: County Latino Health Enrollment Rankings During Latino Health Care Week of Action, ranking of WI Counties on Latino Affordable Care Act enrollment will be released Tuesday Citizen Action of Wisconsin and Covering Kids & Families will host a media call to release for the first time rankings of Wisconsin counties on Latino enrollment in the Affordable Care Act. Latinos are Wisconsin’s fastest growing constituency, and are spread across the entire state. Enrollment in the Affordable Care Act is a particular concern in the Latino community because information has been slower to reach them due to cultural and language barriers. Using the most recent data, Citizen Action will show how many Latino residents are estimated to be eligible for Healthcare.gov in counties across the state and what percent of those eligible are confirmed as enrolled so far. Locations for the Spanish speaking for enrollment help across the state will also be shared on the call. Open enrollment for 2016 ends on January 31st. The research on Wisconsin Latino enrollment is being released during Latino Week of Action, and national effort to improve health care enrollment for Latinos.

Citizen Action of Wisconsin is releasing the 10th annual Wisconsin Health Insurance Cost Ranking report Monday morning on a statewide media call. In addition to providing new numbers and cost rankings for 2016, this year’s report includes data on the historic rates of health insurance inflation for each city. This year’s report also provides data on the quality of health insurance plans offered in each city and region. For the first time, this year’s report will provide composite health insurance cost rankings that include premiums and deductibles for all major types of insurance by Wisconsin metro area. The report finds a large disparity in health insurance costs and inflation between cities and regions of Wisconsin.

This report will show large rate disparities between the two states on the individual insurance market. The 2016 Minnesota vs Wisconsin Health Cost Comparison Report compares both the premiums and the deductibles that consumer in each state pay. The numbers are broken down by metro areas. The report shows major variations in the overall cost of coverage both between the states and within Wisconsin. For the first time this report will look not just at premiums, but at the overall cost for consumers (both premiums and deductibles together). Media Call: New Wisconsin Polling on Health Care Issues Impacting State Budget Citizen Action of Wisconsin will be joined by Public Policy Polling and members of the Joint Finance Committee to release new poll results on key health care issues. The polling was conducted March 6-8, and had a sample size of 1,071 Wisconsin voters. Questions include whether Wisconsin should accept enhanced federal funds for BadgerCare, and whether Governor Walker has responsibility to take action to protect Wisconsin residents from a possible U.S. Supreme Court decision that could take health insurance subsidies from over 184,000 Wisconsinites.

Citizen Action of Wisconsin joins State Senator Kathleen Vinehout and State Representative Melissa Sargent on a media call to announce a contingency plan in case the Supreme Court takes health insurance subsidies away from over 183,000 Wisconsinites. The announcement of the legislation coincides with U.S. Supreme Court oral arguments on the case of King vs. Burwell, which could take tax subsidies away from over over 13 million people in states that did not set up their own federal health insurance marketplace under the provisions of the Affordable Care Act. Participants on the call will make the case that it is malpractice for Governor Walker and the State Legislature not to create a contingency plan in the the Supreme Court takes health insurance subsidies away. Many Wisconsinites just above the poverty line were dropped from BadgerCare by Governor Walker and the Legislature in 2014 and pushed into the federal marketplace. In addition, many people on the federal marketplace have preexisting conditions, and have no where else to go to get life saving health coverage.
