How to Embrace Our Artlife - Edward Povey - Ep 53

How to Embrace Our Artlife - Edward Povey - Ep 53

https://Art2Life.com - At the beginning of making something, the artist is the fixed, central point that everything is organized around. It seems it can't be any other way. You are a singular artist doing something, chasing something to make something new. Often it falls flat but sometimes, a few sneak through. A couple of them are good. Maybe even for a short time, great. Interestingly, good art always seems to have a bit more authenticity. It's yours, but also theirs as well. In other words, the authenticity of the human experience seems to be the currency we all embrace. We all can relate to it. As the artist, we begin thinking the work is all about us. How could it be otherwise? Yet somehow, in the process of making, sharing, and showing our work, it becomes clear that others can find themselves in our art too. It no longer becomes solely about you. It is out of your hands and goes off into the world without even looking back. Of course, this is rarely the case for most art made. First, it has to be exceptionally authentic. It has to be poignant and stirring. It has to be unforgettable. Edward Povey, a British painter whose work can loosely be described as emotional realism, happens to be all three. Join me now for an incredibly candid, moving, and thoughtful conversation. Hopefully, it will be for you what it was for me: Unforgettable. ================================ LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN… Edward’s origin story and how it informs his work [3:11] Creating community-minded art and unpacking inadequacy [13:16] Diving into Edward’s process and auditing an ordinary life  [17:04] Pythagoras, the armature of the rectangle, and mathematical creativity [34:05] Embracing uncertainty with honest inquiry [45:05] ================================ RESOURCES MENTIONED Biography from the Museum of Modern Art in Whales: http://media.icompendium.com/edwardpo_2.-EDWARD-POVEY---MOMA-Wales-2012.pdf   ================================= CONNECT WITH EDWARD POVEY Website: https://www.edwardpovey.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/edwardpovey Art Basel Miami showing (Nov 29th - Dec 4th): https://www.artmiami.com/practical-info  Visit Edward’s GALERIE BENJAMIN ECK showing in Munich, Germany (Oct 3rd - Nov 30th) by reaching out to: [email protected]  A future solo exhibition is currently being organized with Waterhouse & Dodd, New York, scheduled for Fall 2023. Cultivating Balance in Art & Life - James Kennedy - Ep 52

Cultivating Balance in Art & Life - James Kennedy - Ep 52

https://Art2Life.com - Meet James Kennedy. An artist living and working just north of NYC, whose work I have admired for years. And finally, I had the opportunity to sit with him and have a conversation. You know those people you meet that you want to hang out with more because you instantly feel you are on the same page? Not just about art but also life? James has this lovely mix of humility, humor, and creative wisdom that I so appreciate in artists.  It turns out James began his career in theater and performance art. His “find your way as you go” mode of unpremeditated paintings are gorgeous, balanced assemblages of line, shape, texture, and tonality. Ever since I first saw his work, I was struck by the fact that there was such a refined sense of balance. His art is like a perfect theatrical scene where all the characters are synchronized in a sublime balance of tension and harmony. Join me for a conversation I think you'll find nurturing, funny, and creatively liberating. ================================ LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN… Creating your own world and the elaborate art journey of James Kennedy  [2:27] Starting with landscapes and finding your way as you go [13:56] The art of balance and the spacial quality of James’ work [22:12] Subtlety, boldness, and overcoming challenges in the work [27:29] Creating three-dimensionality through glazing [34:26] Doing life with a creative partner and the process of James’ art practice [38:57] Nurturing your thoughts and James’ next adventure [46:42] ================================ RESOURCES MENTIONED William Turner (Artist): https://www.william-turner.org/the-complete-works.html?pageno=1  Ben Nicholson (Artist): https://www.artsy.net/artist/ben-nicholson  ================================= CONNECT WITH JAMES KENNEDY Website: http://www.jameskennedyonline.com/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jameskennedyart/ ============================= CONNECT WITH NICHOLAS WILTON AND ART2LIFE: Get the Free COLOR TIPS PDF: https://workshop.art2life.com/color-tips-pdf-podcasts/  Follow the Sunday Art2Life Vlog: https://art2life.lpages.co/sign-up-for-the-a2l-vlog/  Follow Nicholas Wilton's Art on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nicholaswilton/  Follow Art2Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/art2life_world/?hl=en  Like on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/art2lifeworld  Subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe8dJWKgPKkW4W3fsb1vLeg

Taking the time to consider others’ art will undoubtedly embolden yours.  Meet Emilio Villalba. A young Mexican American artist born in Chula Vista, California.
