Networking for Introverts: Conference Skills
We live in a culture that forces extroverted interactions, even though most of us are introverts. Listen in for my pro tips on how to network effectively at conferences without feeling fake.
Introverts navigate the world differently from extroverts. Because interacting with others depletes our energy, we need to find opportunities for restoration.
Don't feel pressured to over-socialize. Use passive moments like listening to presentations as opportunities for solitude by sitting by yourself.
Nix the awkward small talk. Instead, ask meaningful questions to targeted people. By expressing genuine interest in someone's work, you make authentic connections.
Find alone time during breaks. This can look like sitting in a quiet corner, going outside, or even back to your hotel rooms.
Find things in common to discuss during networking events. Ask open ended questions.
Practice gracefully ending conversations that have run their course.

How to Stop Arguing for Your Limitations
Go ahead, think about your biggest career dream. Now, tell me why you aren't there yet. All those reasons? Limitations you believe exist on your time, abilities, resources. Listen in to learn how to move past those and take action towards what you want instead of arguing for your limitations.
What stories are you telling yourself about why you can't have what you want? How true are most of those stories?
What you don't believe is possible is based on limitations you think you have, not facts.
When you find yourself thinking about something you can't do, identify the limitation behind that and take steps to overcome it by taking different action.
Be open to opportunities instead of shutting them down.
Ask, "How can I?" and be open to al possibilities not just one way you think something could work.
Look for the patterns in what excites you and the areas where you most want to say yes.

Circuit Train Your Day: Time Management Hacks
How you prioritize the events in your day determines which parts of your career develop and which ones atrophy.
Always begin your day by directing it with a clear intention. Then move into communication and high concentration tasks so they get done and don't drain your energy.
Make time for networking and professional development. These activities are your launch pad to the people and skill sets needed to move you towards your dream career.
Take lunch and breaks to rest and recharge. Remember that rest comes in many forms from breathing exercises to creative or social stimulation.
Interactive work and meetings are most ideally scheduled for after lunch, to boost energy at the point in the day it's most likely to lull.
Even if your daily circuit is interrupted by other meetings or events, honor the fact that each of these items still requires attention. Always make time for the high priority career advancing activities.
For more time management hacks, including how to leverage the way your brain works, avoiding procrastination and perfectionism and taming stress and anxiety, get my book Time Builder.

Are You a Politician or a Freedom Fighter?
Are you resigned to slogging through the system? Is that impactful career you always wanted still in the distant future? Listen in to learn ways to stop the efforting and start getting results.
Politicians operate within the system. They are lack based and negotiate to minimize risk and loss.
The freedom fighter values the liberation of total integrity. They are not at war with any part of themselves.
By choosing freedom, you can proactively life your best life instead of relying on others to make you happy (which ain't gonna ever happen).
The constrained life is not a creative life. Therefore, you will never see the opportunities, only the risk.
If you are experiencing contrast and it's making you uncomfortable, know in that moment you can choose to reframe.

Break the Bias: Celebrating International Women’s Day
Bias comes in many forms, including our own expectations for ourselves or ways we limit ourselves because of how we think others will perceive us. In this episode, three women share how they challenged common beliefs and are claiming the careers they want on their terms.
If you expect to be seen or treated a certain way, it influences your own behavior. Instead, enter situations looking to be treated fairly and with respect.
When you experience some challenges, don't let them trigger you. Staying confident in your abilities and demonstrating them will win others over.
Don't ignore that call inside of you. Every day is your starting line, no matter what you are doing today, how old you are or what other life circumstances you face.
When you are committed to your success, you will overcome all odds.
Make bold moves, even if they are messy. Embrace failure and learn from it.
Other people need to see you fail and move on- it models for them that confidence comes from trying.
Find mentors who will lift you up and challenge you to stretch beyond what you think is possible for yourself.

Blue Urbanism with Architects as Healers: Buildings as Medicine
You might have heard of Clubhouse, the social audio app. In this episode, you get to listen in to the Architecting Club's Architects as Healers: Buildings as Medicine weekly room as we talk Blue Urbanism.
What if we could look at the components of Blue Zones and reconstruct them in modern urban environments?
To create healthy urban spaces, you need to understand the exposome: a combination of social determinants to health and physical environmental conditions.
Blue Urbanism includes clean air, access to nature, quiet, dark skies at night, safe water and healthy food, and opportunities to form broad social networks using active design.
Midscapes are a great way to create access to nature while providing shelter from the elements to lower carbon footprints and create more pedestrian access.
You can actively promote blue urbanism in your community even if you aren't an urban design expert. Activism means buildign awareness, not being an expert.
Join us each week as we host guest experts on topics related to how the built environment can enhance wellness.

There Is No Later
Your career is no longer a separate compartment of your life. You can allow work to encroach, or design a lifestyle integrated with you as a whole happy, healthy person. The life you want (or don't) is unfolding with each choice you make right now- listen in to learn how to uplevel.
Put intentionality behind everything you do. There are no small decisions and when you are in a state of being present, you can more often take aligned action.
Get into thrive vs. survive mode. Doing a bunch of chore-based work can feel rewarding in the moment, but isn't moving you forward to being your best self.
Hit reset on everyday tasks and work processes. Ask if each one is the best use of your time. Think of ways to delegate, eliminate or retool. If there's no energy behind something, it's time to stop doing it that way- or at all.
Stop hiding behind your habits. When you keep doing what you know works, it feels safe. However, it also makes your life stagnant. Where can you be bolder?
Examine big S vs. little s success. Many times those small wins add up and feel good enough. Take a look at the opportunity cost of doing this and how it's keeping you from living a joy and purpose filled life you were meant to live.

How to Stop Your Career From Fading to Beige
The stress and trauma of everyday life can be a lot to deal with. Listen in for tips on reawakening and revitalizing your life and career. Lets start celebrating everyday wins and get excited about what's possible.
Stress is a reaction to outside stimuli- it is not caused by them
Chronic stress physically makes us sick- it also develops a trauma response in our brain. This strengthens neural pathways around fear, allowing them to become dominant, like an overgrown hedge. At the same time, healthier neural pathways atrophy.
Being in a state of trauma causes us to numb out- not just to negative emotions, but positive ones as well.
Celebrate the wins to anchor in positive emotions. Rebuilding and strengthening these thought habits lets us believe in what's possible instead of seeing limitations.
Be a screen, not a wall so that your energy isn't wasted on resisting what you cannot control.

Stand Up to Lift Up
Are you on lots of bandwagons, but never driving? In this episode, we explore why we fear standing out. Being an advocate doesn't mean you are held to a standard of perfection, it means you care about showing others a better way forward.
The reason to take a stand is not to have zero tolerance for failure, it's to aspire to and inspire better outcomes.
Self-righteousness is not advocacy, it's a form of judgement.
Predictability is the opposite of creativity. Stop playing it safe by blending into the collective consciousness.
Every time you play small and aim to stay within expectations, you cheat the world out of your potential and the innovation it could bring.

Great Resignation to Great Retention: The Secret to Engaged and High Performing Staff
Let me guess: you're hiring. You're probably also willing to do just about anything to keep the staff you have. In this ask me anything episode, I respond to an audience question about what it takes to keep staff engaged and motivated, while also keeping a high performance bar.
Provide a nurturing work environment that emphasizes flexibility, staff visibility and opportunities to grow.
It's about the work you do, not just the work environment. Emphasize meaningful work that aligns with each person's personal development goals.
Focus not just on diversity and inclusion, but on equitable decision making.
Equity extends to fair assessment of performance. It's not fair to the other staff to gloss over poor work habits or skill gaps. Build in ways to measure growth and learn from failures.
Appreciate the small wins and achievements and help your staff see the connection back to their personal goals.

Love Your Life, Love Your Work
Let's talk about love; how it's about releasing judgement about others- and yourself. In particular, let's talk about how lack of love interprets confidence as arrogance, assertiveness as aggression and makes self-care selfish. It's time to abandon the negative beliefs that keep us focused on limitation, lack, doubt and fear and step into the expansiveness that's possible in our life and career.
Always be clear on your motivations. Standing behind your expertise and a well researched solution is being confident in your ability to make a difference. Looking for the "ta-da" moment is arrogance.
Assertiveness is a form of advocacy. Staying quiet or passively taking instruction doesn't lead to an honest conversation or aid the co-creation process.
Self-care and maintaining clear boundaries is the opposite of selfish. Doing things for approval and acceptance comes from childish thinking. Adults stand in their power and claim the resources they need to be their best selves, knowing that from that place, they can have the greatest positive impact on others.
Love yourself by taking responsibility for yourself and love others by releasing the need to be responsible for them.

Leadership Essentials: Interview with Sarah Francescutti
Leadership is about way more than your job description. In today's episode, Executive Leadership Coach Sarah Francescutti gives you the low down on acting up (for the role you want).
No more back room behavior like having a bad attitude, gossiping or complaining.
Reverse engineer your career path. Be proactive in seeking the training or skills you need and invest in yourself.
Expand your capacity to receive opportunities. You need to build up experiences and wisdom to lead with empathy and effectiveness.
Technical expertise is no substitute for people skills.
Leadership can be lopsided. Because no one is good at everything, focus on building up your strengths and working with others who have skills to offset your weaknesses.
Authenticity trumps all. People respond to the real you not a polished "shell" person with whom they cannot relate.

The Experimental Career: Interview with Sana Tabassum
Hey you toiling away and not enjoying a minute of it- there's a better way. To:Scale founder and nextgen architecture student Sana Tabassum shares a new perspective on finding the career(s) you love.
Try everything so you know what you like
Be proactive about developing skills. Give yourself safe space to cultivate them in your off time.
Interview a prospective employer as much as they are interviewing you. Work where they'll let you find yourself and reach your highest potential.
Find role models doing things that interest you, even if they seem unconventional. Network with them and let them show you what's possible
Be willing to share your process. It's almost as important as the finished product (and a whole lot more interesting if you want to learn something).

You’re Not for Everyone (and That’s a Good Thing)
Here's stress relief tip: take a break from people pleasing (or actively resisting it). It's time to start being unapologetic about who you are, what you stand for and invte others to join you- or not.
You can choose to be either in compliance, defiance, or acceptance.
Stop accepting the premise that you need to make others happy. Focus on being aligned and taking actions in integrity instead.
Drop the story about needing approval, or else. When you stand in your power as your authentic self- you shift from saying "look at me," to "come with me."

There is No They: Lessons from the Unlikable
Let's stop a bit to look at the "understood they." The dehumanization and villainization that comes from othering. Creating this separation lets us play the victim and make the success we see in others wrong all while limiting our own.
Like the grammatical understood you, understood they is an imperative. It creates separation between ourselves and others. We don't name our subject, just blame them.
Separation allows us to create a dichotomy- by making others wrong, we make ourselves a victim and give up our power.
Being a victim is a permission slip for inaction.
What if you could shift language from "me and them" to "we and us?"
When we are one, there can be no competition or jealousy. Instead, we can be in gratitude to those who are drawing our attention. We can thank them for leaving breadcrumbs of their path to success and even appreciate their mistakes for illuminating the pitfalls for us.

Stop Letting Stress Sabotage You
Stress is toxic. Our bodies evolved to react to perceived threats by giving us the physical stamina to escape. In today's world of chronic stress, that response is shutting down our access to the creative abilities and logical thinking we most need. And it's making us sick.
Take an energy inventory. Are you spending your time in the right places?
How can you turn your traumas and vulnerabilities into a superpower instead of a source of stress?
When you catch yourself in a stress response, use calming techniques to activate your parasympathetic nervous system.

Dare to be Happy: Interview with Aurora Meneghello
Have you built your identity around external factors? Coach Aurora Meneghello shares how to get in touch with your deepest self so you can always take aligned action.
It's OK for your identity to evolve. The core of who you are stays the same, but doesn't need to be attached to outside indicators of identity.
When you are addicted to controlling, you lose resilience because you cannot control life
You become separated from your deeper self when you attach feeling good to success, security to money, and identity with your job.
When you are anchored with your deepest self, you can go anywhere and do anything without losing yourself.
Fear is a cue, not an end state- it is your indicator to look within and recalibrate so you can live from feeling good, not judgement.

Do It Anyway: Facing Your Fears
Fear has many disguises; procrastination, perfectionism, control, busyness. In all cases, we are telling our dreams to sit in the back seat and shut up. As we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. let's remember that dreams are what changes the world.
Take some time to get reacquainted with your dreams. How are they signals of your passion and purpose? Understand that they are not fantasies, but clues leading you forward.
Think about why you have suppressed taking action on your dreams. What fears are behind the abandonment? What's motivating you to make other things a priority instead?
Decide to take action no matter what, even when your dreams seem like they have no connection to your higher purpose.
There's lots of things we put in the too hard basket, but dreams should never be one of them.

Transform Your Relationships with these Emotional Intelligence Skills
There is an art to being self aware but not self absorbed. To being emapthetic to others without compromising your boundaries.
See your own emotional patterns from a point of detachment, not trigger. Understand that you need to consciously work to unravel these stories and the bias filter they place on how you perceive the world.
Understand that others have their own filter and be curious about why instead of reacting to their behavior based on assumptions.
Ask questions instead of creating a story based on your ego narrative.
Focus on the why more than the what. Provide people with an emotional exit ramp so you can move past excuses and defensiveness and focus on solutions.
Pick your battles. Seek alignment through purpose not tasks.
Work on completing your thoughts through meditation and journaling so that you can more easily recognize your own story patterns.

FirstThey Have to Like You: The Power of Body Language
Likability is rooted in trust. Trust being that vibe you're laying down that others pick up on in mere nanoseconds. Learn how postures and facial expressions you may be unaware of are affecting your likability,
Show interest and attention by making eye contact, nodding, smiling and making positive gestures as someone talks. Make them your entire focus.
Before you start a meeting, take time to read the room so you can decide whether people need reassurance, encouragement, or a change to shine.
Make others feel seen and heard by asking for their thoughts or concerns. Avoid rushing through to stay on an agenda or get your own ideas out.
Be aware of your posture. Standing in a balanced, broad shouldered way with your hands at your sides shows confidence. Slouching, crossing your arms, fidgeting or hands in pockets are defensive stances that evoke distrust.
Mirror the speakers gestures to show affinity with their thoughts and thought patterns.

Make 2022 The Year You Stop Proving Yourself
Ta-da! You did the thing. But at what cost and for what reason? This is your year to stop jumping through hoops and move forward with momentum and aligned action.
Stop emphasizing doing over being. Performance is not a measure of worth, accomplishing what only you can do is.
As "what is true for me?" When you follow your own path, you always have momentum even if you face setbacks. Failure is only catastrophic when you tie your success to someone else's approval.
Stop using busyness as an excuse not to dare greatly.
Ask for what you really want instead of playing games to avoid judgement.
Doing what you don't want to do to get approval is a lot like prostitution,
Climbing onto a pedestal through proving yourself is only asking to be knocked down the minute you make a mistake (and you will). Take your ego out of the equation and you'll never have to apologize for what you work to achieve even if things go wrong.

Get More Results With Less Effort
Taking inventory of your year? It's not about what you did or didn't accomplish, but how you felt about it.
Think about how you spend your energy. Are doing things out of obligation instead of because they give you joy? What can you eliminate?
Success is living in joy. When you live in joy, your energy regenerates and grows. When you don't, your energy is scattered, depleted and stagnant.
Competency is comforting. We make ourselves busy with tasks we are good at doing so we don't have time to take on things that are more risky, but will bring us more reward. This sense of unworthiness to live our dreams leads us to hide behind the busyness and procrastinate.
Surround yourself with five people who you interact with regularly who will keep you focused, help you find courage, and re-frame situations to keep you feeling positive and moving forward.
Keep your energy positive by celebrating the wins instead of moving on to some new form of validation.

Control: The Anti-Fun
Control is not a measure of confidence, it's a measure of fear. Fear of not meeting expectations, or getting the desired outcome. Fear of failure. In this episode, we'll explore how having more fun can unlock creative potential and leave us all with a whole lot less stress.
Giving up control allows us to see other possibilities than what we thought we wanted. In the flow of the present moment, we can pivot to receive all that is available for the situation.
Trying to control outcomes and prove yourself is negative energy and others will respond negatively to you as a result.
Try looking for ways to have fun in any situation- especially ones that are fraught with conflict or tension. Notice how your focus on having a positive experience (not a positive outcome) shifts everything.

What I Should Have Said: Impacts of Anger, Guilt and Shame
Anger, guilt and shame are the root cause of all communication problems. This episode explores ways to stop framing things through the lens of our own insecurities and emotional reactions. Stop being triggered and start being curious about exploring the possibilities.
Your negative self image will lead you to fear negative outcomes. This looks like reading into what others say and do to reinforce your own inner narrative.
Don't let your ego lead the way. Show up focused on the purpose and ideas to avoid emotional triggers if you are met with skepticism or challenges.
Show up ready to explore what's possible. Remember that failure is how we learn and that every idea or solutions has pros and cons.
Ask questions instead of making assumptions. Bad intentions will come to light and well intended criticism will surface for discussion so that ideas can be elevated and explored, not shot down.

The Question that Builds Trust
What do you know? When was the last time you asked that question? A question this powerful should be asked on the regular. It gives agency by showing that you value someone's knowledge and want to hear from them. Not their opinion, but what they know.
The number one reason people change jobs or quit being engaged is because they feel they are missing a supportive and open communication channel. You know the channel is working when you can comfortably discuss hard topics that require vulnerability.
We all want an advocate- show others that their contributions are visible and skills are important by acknowledging them.
Once you have good communication, you can establish psychological safety and offer growth opportunities.
Asking someone what they know works like magic to strengthen trust, empathy and social connection.

Rising Above Criticism and Setbacks
Is this you: externally motivated, in fear of judgement, playing by someone else's rules because you think that's the only way to get ahead?
Get out of the disempowerment of victim mentality that keeps you in survival mode and in a state of manipulating and being manipulated by others.
You can't be creative if you don't embrace failure and make bold gestures in life.
Remember the brightest lights cast the darkest shadow and that instead of avoiding criticism to expect it. You're not for everyone, but it's better to be authentically you than someone who never stands out because she never stands for anything.
Adopting a witness mindset allows you to be a curious learner who lives fully in the present moment and learns from every experience - positive or negative.

Like a Mother: How work is being revolutionized
Where are all the women in our profession? So many fade away due to lack of support and family responsibilities- but not the women in the Mothers in Architecture group. Meet the three founders who took a stand to keep moms in architecture and started a movement where women model for one another how to have a career on your own terms.
Women's careers face unique challenges. By being part of a support group, you have a safe space to be vulnerable and reconcile being a professional with being a mother.
Raise the bar on what expectations should be instead of trying to cope with the status quo. You deserve to be supported in the career you want to have.
Mothers are often workplace trailblazers. The issues they fought for around flex time and working from home have now become workplace standards that benefit everyone, so never feel like because something isn't the norm today that it's not worth fighting for.
We all need to stop romanticizing overwork. Learn to set boundaries and surround yourself with people who keep you grounded in why you need to maintain them (your well-being).
Careers can follow many different paths. Your goals should align with what you want- not someone else's structure.

The Power of Praise
Be the one who takes your team from good to great by harnessing the power of praise to help recognize and amplify the skill sets of coworkers and clients.
Praise is not flattery. Be authentic and mention specific things that someone did well and how those things impacted the outcome.
When you call attention to an accomplishment, you raise awareness of the skills involved in that person's mind, which helps them focus more on developing those skills. This happens through a brain mechanism called the Reticular Activator which focuses attention.
Praise raises the energy and joy of team, which then pumps up creativity and adds ease to the work being done to the point that it doesn't feel like work anymore.
Take the praise challenge. Pick three people to praise over the next two days and share the impact it had on instagram. Tag me @architectingpodcast and I'll share with the rest of our community.

Reclaiming White Space on Your Calendar
Whew! Another workday so filled with meetings, there was no time left for ...work? And what about how exhausting it is to have to be "on" all day? Listen in to learn how to just say no to energy sapping time sucks.
Unhook yourself from obligation energy and the accompanying guilt and shame. Look at your own story that's making you feel you can;t say no as well as how you are tapping into other people's stories about what you "should" be doing.
Be clear about what you need out of your day and claim it on your calendar. Block focused time based on your most productive period of the day, schedule time for tasks instead of making lists, prioritize breaks and time for a nourishing lunch by adding them on the calendar.
Train people on what to expect. If it's clear you are not available for back to back meetings or meetings scheduled without asking you first, then they will learn to respect your time more.

Essentials of Psychological Safety
Understanding psychological safety is your new stealth tool to effective team work and having a high performance design career.
The foundation of being able to work effectively (and innovatively) is to first build trust. Trust comes when everyone feels supported doing meaningful work, comfortable sharing their ideas, can fail without feeling like a failure and feels included.
We all bring our own story and meanings to the way we interpret the world. It's important to become more conscious of our own and others' tendency to do this so that we can communicate more effectively
Practice active listening, instead of just waiting to make your own points.
Teamwork is about letting go of individual inputs and outputs in favor of focusing collectively on the outcomes. This means balancing the expansiveness of the beginner's mind with the reductive power of expertise.
Always make others feel appreciated and included by specifically noticing how their contributions helped the team succeed.

This is Your Starting Line
Feeling overwhelmed or like you'll never get ahead? Been so caught up in the daily grind that you can't see past the job horizon? I'm here to tell you that it's never too late. This is your starting line and you absolutely will end up a winner. Listen in to learn how to get past all the limitations telling you why you can;t and start knowing that you can!
Nothing is ever wasted. No matter how old you are, how late to the game, or how many times you've failed, you are here for a purpose and you will find it as long as you keep trying.
Instead ruminating about past shame or regret or running endless if/then future scenarios, be in the present. Try breathing and sighing out the exhale to center yourself then focus on the emotional trigger behind the reason you feel blocked. Once identified, you can actively work through id to see what your heart is really trying to show you about your career and purpose.
Ask what's the worst that could happen, and journal about that. Feel a sense of mastery over all the reasons you think you can't writing them down makes them feel manageable.
Take full responsibility for yourself and living your purpose. When you encounter obstacles, instead of letting them play into your worries about why you can't, start asking how you can.

Community Building
Do you care about issues in the built environment like social justice, sustainability, well, being, citizen agency? It's time to take that compassion and put it to work for you. Listen in to hear how to get involved, get noticed and have an impact regardless of your current experience level or credentials.
Find something you care about then find the organizations championing that cause. You'll have a ready-made platform and a community of people to learn from so you can hone your skills while you build your network.
Raise your hand, Doers get noticed and wallflowers get bypassed. Don't worry about whether you're qualified- just by taking action you are making a difference.
Diversify your community- knowing people from all walks of life will help you see the issues you care about from many different angles so you have a better perspective about making change. That same diverse community will also make it easier for you to get buy in and participation because you have built trust.
Everything matters. No matter how small the effort or how meaningless what you are doing feels, you can use your knowledge to make a difference.

Agents of Change
Change is transformation, provocation and a willingness to lead people beyond what they thought was possible. And you were born to lead it as an Agent of Change. You just need a few tips, so listen in!
You were not put here to sit quietly in the corner smiling and nodding. Those who love and mentor you have removed obstacles so you can get farther faster.
When you try and make everybody happy and appeal to everyone, you stand for nothing. Leaders know their mission is what matters and don't allow their egos to prevent them from doing or saying what's necessary.
Agents of change are generous. They want to see others success be cause they understand that each person's triumph makes us all better. They believe in abundance and freely share what they know.
It's not audacious or an overreach to believe in transformation. In fact, it's exactly what the world so desperately needs. Be a wayshower and a holder of the vision and help give others the courage to believe in transformation as well.

Design Ecosystems not Egosystems
Space feels like something. It's a collection of form, materials, colors, light and sound that impact humans physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Are you ready to elevate that experience by making conscious design choices to help people be their best selves?
Instead of judging what people need and imposing your ideas, be a space shaman. Take the time to diagnose and develop a "treatment" plan with your clients.
The Great Resignation is signalling an appetite for something better. For the first time, people are less afraid of change than they are of things staying the same. They are valuing happiness and quality of life, two things great design supports.
You can't be an advocate for change if you aren't confident. Take the time to do the inner work and get clarity on what your design why is. That confidence will translate to your ability to successfully take your clients where they really want to go.

The CULTure of Design
Let's do some mythbusting about the practice of architecture. There's so much indoctrination into a broken way of doing things that undermines our confidence while undervaluing our work and weakening our impact. It's time to stop drinking the Kool Aid and start having the career you want instead of the one you thought you had to accept.
Architecture is a diverse profession with a huge range of options both inside and outside of traditional practice. You get to choose which you pursue and customize your career based on you interests- but first you get to try a few on and decide what fits you best.
In a cult, you follow the leader and don't have free will. Your time has no value because the contribution you make as an individual is only in contribution to the vision of the master (read firm leader). It's way past time to question that premise and reject it.
Claim the practice you want and show up for it at every scale of project. How you do anything is how you do everything and your viewpoint can give even the smallest projects a powerful story to tell.
Recognize that practice means being a part of a community. Have a support system in place to keep you accountable to your goals and away from that kool aid.

Provide Your Clients With a Bigger Container
Design aligns...big visions, better experience, environmental friendliness. So why do we have so many mediocre buildings? Let's start giving our clients a bigger container and grow projects to their fullest potential.
Transformational projects begin with leading your client somewhere. Leadership isn't being a trainer, it's going somewhere and taking others with you.
The world's resources can't tolerate the waste of another mediocre project. Facilitate big dreams and creative solutions over the go-to things within everyone's comfort zone.
Understand how the space needs might change over time and work to make sure the innovations don't feel like extras, but instead are features everyone will fight to preserve.
Trying to please everyone means you stand for nothing. Clients need your leadership to help them feel comfortable expressing the magnitude of their vision. Be someone who holds space for the possible and shows how it can happen instead of why it can't.

Lead the Leaders
Leadership is more than being organized and managing people and situations. To truly lead, you have to stand for something and value your work and the power of your message. Your followers are out there and they are looking for exactly that value you can bring to them.
Don't commoditize your work or just follow client instructions. Your value lies in your ability to surface deeper issues and translate them into design solutions.
Leaders don't play the competition game. They work to provide innovation instead of comparing themselves to the market.
Instead of buying into prevailing thought about what won;t work, be optimistic. To innovate and solve problems, you have to believe in possibilities.
Ideal clients are looking to do more than meet functional needs. When you show that you can deliver impactful work, they will be drawn to you. Be clear in your message and the results you can deliver instead of talking about your work the way other architects talk about theirs.

Repeat after me, "discernment is not judgement." That's right. Judgement comes from your story-as-filter giving you a "read" on the situation at hand. Discernment is noticing, checking in with yourself and determining how to respond.
It's hard to practice discernment when you are emotionally triggered. Most of the time, the trigger and the triggering incident are not related.
Unpack your trigger and give yourself grace for whatever core wound or limiting belief you found. Acknowledge the emotions behind it all so you can better understand why the trigger, well triggered.
Don't get caught up in the emotional fallout or your reaction. Go back to the triggering incident and discern the facts and qualities of the situation.
Decide what you are available to experience and practice meeting situations with a "thanks," or "no thanks," attitude.
Leave judgement out of your response so you can take what you need from the situation and move on.

Miscreation: Realigning our Work and Purpose
Miscreation happens when we act out of fear of uncertainty instead of trusting our intuition to guide us to the right solution. This episode explores how to move beyond the outdated playbooks of career and embrace change with confidence.
Embrace change by challenging old labels put on you or others to find new and better ways of understanding one another
Let go of expectations to move past the drama and chaos which siphons your energy away from your purpose and directs your attention to what you don't want instead of what you do.
Find the balance between holding healthy boundaries and being an advocate for others.
Allow yourself to see current conditions as freedom to be more creative instead of being frustrated that yesterday's solution may no longer work.

The Leader You Need May not be the Leader You Want
Leadership has many faces. Your dream leader likely isn't the one who will challenge and stretch you to grow.
Your work style may not match that of your leader or those you lead. Ask better questions to make sure that you are playing to one another's strengths.
Know your strengths so that you can complement the strengths of a leader with a style that isn't necessarily compatible.
Not everyone in a leadership position has a leadership skill set. Recognize when you need to lead from behind and proactively make suggestions. Also, don't be afraid to express your needs or areas where you would like support to grow.

Go Big
Going Big in your career starts as an inside job. You can't take a stand for others or question the status quo if inside you are in turmoil. Who you are affects what you do.
Stop limiting your success out of fear of limited resources. Believe that success is more than just getting today's needs met.
Take risks to see results. Remember failure is learning and the only thing that will really take you out of the game is fear of judgement.
Big success comes with a responsibility to have a big voice. It isn't arrogant to use the spotlight to advocate and draw attention to your cause and mission. Instead, you have earned the privilege of being able to inspire others.
Success is your birthright
Enjoying your success by living a good life replenishes you and allows you to have more to give to others. The more successful you become, the more self care you'll need.

Bullying Stops Here
In the workplace, bullying, including manipulation and gaslighting tactics can masquerade in unrealistic expectations, encouragement to play it safe and criticism of leadership skills. Big facts to help you recognize when it's happening.
Constructive criticism and concerns about readiness will always come with offers of support. If someone makes you doubt your ability so you won't set ambitious goals, question their motivation not your abilities.
Be wary of unrealistic expectations. Doing something you don't feel good about to please someone else makes you responsible for their happiness. Practice using healthy boundaries to avoid codependent exchanges.
Leaders don't try to bring everyone along. Be a mama duck and head down your path. Those that are inspired will follow.
Go where your wanted, not where you're needed. Trying to convince someone who isn't ready to make a change (even if they would benefit) is manipulation.
Disagreement is healthy. Never accept being made wrong for making a decision someone else doesn't like. Be respectful of others decisions then agree to disagree if you can't find common ground.

Unconditional Success
Are you deferring your success to later days? Imagining that "someday" without taking action today?
Successful people take action, even if it's messy. They show up and make things happen regardless of whether they feel ready.
Disconnect from the need to make the things you do right or wrong. Instead be curious about why something did or didn't work. Everything in just information, not a judgement of your potential. Look for guidance and learn the lessons- then move on.
The person you were is your foundation, keep building the person you will become every day.
Raise your standards. Always look for opportunities to stretch yourself and to live your best life.
Shift thinking. Free yourself from needing to have some form of success and be a future version of yourself to unlock your ability to do something. Instead, be "future you" now and act accordingly to have what you want.

Stop Living the First Available Life
It might be fine to accept the first available table at a crowded restaurant, but when it comes to your life's work, settling in no bueno.
Just because you are good at something doesn't mean you should be doing it. Look past expectations and titles and feel into how aligned you are with the work you are doing.
It's easy to see what we don't like but still try and fit ourselves into that mold thinking we will be happy when (fill in the blank) instead think about what makes you happy now and do that.
There is a difference between roles and titles. My Archetyper tool which you can download for free here lets you align your interests with roles so you can craft the career path that's meant for you.

Make Your Day Work for You
Ready to stop being a slave to your day? Let's reframe everything you know about time whether it's working or playing and start leveraging the way our brains and bodies work to get more from our daily 24. Click here to deep dive into more with my Thrive class at a special price
Make time for what matters instead of excuses. Question everything about how you spend your day and root out activities that are habits not purpose.
Once you know what really needs to be done, see if you can delegate all or part of a task to someone else. This gives them the benefit of experience while you get the benefit of fresh perspective with fewer hours of your own time spent.
Take time to recharge and replenish. Make it your mantra to do less better.
Our subconscious mind has a gatekeeper that only lets in the sensory inputs we have prioritized. Give that gatekeeper some new instructions to find insight and inspiration quicker.
Get out of survival mode by reducing stress. The stress response turns off the very brain functions you need to have a high performance day.
