Welcome to the Active Ingredient Podcast, your destination for all things inner exploration, growth, connection, and curiosity. I'm your host, Sophie Weill, and I am a deeply curious human who believes that every single person on earth has their own unique and beautiful core essence, which is what I call your ingredient. And our job here is to uncover what that is and choose to activate it every single day. Howard Thurman said it best. "Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive. Because what the world needs is more people who have come alive." So let's do that. Hosted on Acast. Solo Episode on 3 Questions to ask yourself to lead a fulfilling life
I've realized that consistency is the most potent fuel we can use to propel our self-discovery and personal growth journey. Some time ago, I started asking myself a couple of questions before starting my day, basically to ensure my actions would feel in alignment with my true self. Throughout the years, I refined that practice into asking myself the three questions that turned into my North Star in my quest of living a fulfilling life. Today, we delve into the three questions I ask myself to help me set my day, make sure I'm heading in the right direction, and that I stay close to what feels fully aligned with me. We also talk about attracting abundance from practicing gratitude, the power of stacking habits, being grateful and excited for everything that happens in our lives, and how focusing on nourishing our bodies can be used as a motivator. In This Episode, You Will Learn:The beauty of seeing life unfold through consistency (3:01)The power of being granular when going through the list of what we are grateful for (3:33)Abundance is attracted by gratitude, not by scarcity (7:53)What are the things that make us feel alive today? Why it is crucial to start our day by answering this question (8:53)Why it is essential to pay attention to how we nourish our bodies (10:54)Resources:Solo episode on my relationship with food and tuning into what nourishes youSolo episode on GRATITUDE and cultivating a daily gratitude practiceBook: James Clear - Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad OnesLet's connect!Active Ingredient InstagramSophie Weill Instagram Hosted on Acast. You must be willing to fail spectacularly in order to succeed with my business mindset coach Ben Easter
After a severe head injury that compromised the parts of the brain responsible for processing language and social interactions, Ben Easter found himself in a tough spot. Like every other human, he strived for connection and belonging, which the consequences of his accident were clearly making more difficult.Ben devoted his entire being to achieve a fast recovery, and within 6 months, he was already on his feet and, (according to him), fully recovered. But he wasn't; he still had issues processing language, understanding what people would say to him, and the worst part of it, he wasn't aware of these issues; his grandma pointed them out to him. The following months were dark for Ben; he contemplated suicide, he felt isolated, broken, and unworthy. His studying abilities weren't affected, though, so he started reading about neuroplasticity and learning how to stimulate the brain to "fix itself," he studied and learned about social dynamics. Ben realized social skills were precisely that, skills, and with practice, he would eventually redevelop them, which he did. Ben Easter, is a Transformational Life Coach and the CEO and Head Coach of Lucid Shift Coaching. He has two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Florida State University. He also has a Master of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Herbology from Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In this episode, we had a fantastic conversation about connection, the need for being noticed, and the importance of belonging. Ben shared his transformational journey, from being a bully to a Relationship Coach. We delve into how crucial it is to face our fears, be comfortable with failure, trust ourselves, and why it is impossible to find peace until we double down our efforts on what we love and think of financial success as a consequence of following our passions. Some Questions I Ask:What was Ben Easter like as a kid? (5:53) I can relate to that feeling of wanting to be seen. Where do you think that stems from for you? (10:38)I would like to hear about your accident and what happened with your head (15:46)You said the unlock is finding something that you can get paid for the skills you already have. That doesn't mean the job has to pay you 6, 7, 8 figures. What do you mean by that? (30:58)In This Episode, You Will Learn:About Ben's longing for attention and connection since he was a kid (6:28)Ben's first big breakthrough about who he was and who he wanted to be (9:03)Ben's second awakening and the start of an entirely new journey (15:51)Facing our fears. Solo episode on my relationship with food and tuning into what nourishes you
The constant bombarding of edited images of unattainable beauty standards has multiple effects. They set the expectations of what beautiful and desirable bodies look like, especially for women. They push millions of people into absurd and unhealthy diets, and, most importantly, they reinforce the idea that we don't know what's good for us. They mine our intuition, and we develop a limiting belief: we will only succeed with external guidance. In this episode, we go through a sensitive topic that has taken a big part in my life, proper nourishment. Today's discussion is about what we decide to put into our bodies and why. We delve into the pressure women are set under to look in a certain way and its devastating effects on their mental and physical health, confidence, and instincts. I share my experiences with the diets I've tried (literally all of them), and what made me realize that path was only taking me away from my intuition and disconnecting me from the needs of my higher self. In This Episode, You Will Learn:About not remembering a time in my life when I wasn't thinking or worried about my weight (4:17)Getting away from the narrative that suggests we don't know what is good for us (6:32)How to learn to differentiate what serves our body and what doesn't (10:28)About the industries that benefit by reinforcing the idea that we need external guidance to achieve our health-related goals (14:26)Nourishment is healing. We need proper nourishment to create space and make communication with our higher self easier (21:49)Let's connect!Active Ingredient InstagramSophie Weill Instagram Hosted on Acast. Solo episode on finding micro moments of silence in order to gain clarity
We are so used to being constantly entertained that boredom has become almost a bad word or an ancient sensation virtually no one remembers how it felt. We exist in a world where silence is a rarity. We live surrounded by noise, and our society, as a collective, has decided that it is entirely normal to do everything while we consume content. Today, in this solo episode, I take a moment to talk about silence, my relationship with it, how it helped me, and the growth and evolution I've experienced through it. I explore how I've discovered in silence the most potent tool to get in touch with my higher self, communicate with it, and co-create my life in a way that feels in full alignment with my true self. Throughout this episode, I share my experiences and results of sitting in silence with my thoughts. I also dive into what I started doing in silence, like going to sleep, running, or even eating, how hard it was (and still is!), and the positive outcomes I harvested from that discomfort. In This Episode, You Will Learn:About what sitting in silence has done for me and how potent it is to generate true change in our lives (4:03)Why sitting in silence has become one of the hardest things to do in the world we live in (8:05)The difference between decisions made from comparison or ego, and decisions made from being sitting in silence (11:23)About my sleeping habits, and what impact silence has had on the quality of my sleep (13:39)Eating in silence. One of the most challenging yet most beneficial habits I've acquired (20:19)About focusing on the function, not the form, and the perfect type of meditation for us (26:28)Let's connect!Active Ingredient InstagramSophie Weill Instagram Hosted on Acast. Some of Us Need To Touch the Fire with Karlee Fain
I know for me when I first heard of boundaries I thought it meant putting up a wall, closing people off, and being hard to work with or unreasonable when in actuality, it is more about building bridges and getting to a place where everyone’s needs are being met. When working with someone, we are dealing with two different sets of expectations; setting boundaries then becomes more about being flexible enough to make those expectations met than building a barrier between us.Today’s guest is Karlee Fain, Celebrity Business and Boundary Coach who is both incredibly powerful and one of the most present people I have ever met. She is an Author, Speaker, Founder of The Boundary Academy, and host of the Messy And Magnificent Podcast. Since she was a little child, Karlee had a deep sense of compassion and an urge to make people feel safe. In this episode, we get into pretty much all of the topics that speak to my soul like getting quiet enough to really listen to your true self, being led by your intuition, and what boundaries are, why we need them, and how to implement them in a way that benefits all. We also talk about how to check with ourselves after we level up, be with ourselves at all times during our growth journey, and how important it is to be flexible sometimes and do the things that make us feel alive. Karlee also shared some advice to improve confidence, the idea of collective wisdom that runs under The Boundary Academy, the power of seeking connection instead of hiding, and much more. Some Questions I Ask:What were you like as a kid? (11:56)Why did you feel the need to protect your family, siblings, and other people? (13:23)How do you catch someone when they haven't gotten to that point where they externally feel they need to slow down? (19:18)What do you say to someone that's in an early boundary phase? (30:38)In This Episode, You Will Learn:About the power of curiosity and where it can take us (10:32)The fantastic feeling of being community-made, and the opportunities it offers (17:33)The invitation to be called back home to ourselves (22:29)The woman and the river (30:40)Leveling up can be lonely (38:47)We've learned to be different, to be liked, and to ignore what we feel (1:01:19)Resources:Karlee Fain websiteThe Messy And Magnificent PodcastThe Nap Ministry InstagramBook: Gay Hendricks - The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life to the Next Level Connect with Karlee:LinkedInInstagramLet's connect!Active Ingredient InstagramSophie Weill Instagram Hosted on Acast. Founder of ILIA on leading with your gut, silencing fear and the 10 year journey to scaling today's leading clean beauty brand
This week’s episode is with Sasha Plavsic, the founder of ILIA Beauty, the best selling clean beauty brand on the market today. Before ILIA, Sasha had a career in branding where she worked both at an agency as well as in house at brands like Saje and Urban Decay. At the age of 30, she couldn’t shake the feeling of being unfulfilled and decided to quit her job, leave the long term relationship she was in and essentially move back in with her parents to give herself time to breathe, regroup and reconnect with herself and her roots. She launched ILIA back in 2011 and completely self funded the brand for the first 8 years of the business. On this episode we get into Sasha’s journey on how she got to where she is today, we talk about her evolution in business having started two businesses prior to ILIA and what it was about this idea that stuck, having the strength to let go of things and people that no longer serve you, tuning in and listening to your inner voice, not giving into societal pressures, finding your own personal groove and how her own Active Ingredient has evolved throughout the years. Solo episode on rejection and removing the emotion from it using a simple math equation
This week's solo episode is all about rejection and perseverance. I'm bringing back one of the most impactful takeaways we've had on the show that was from the episode with Rebecca Minkoff. She shared with us how in the early days of building her brand it was a ton of legwork to get people to take her line and was rejected constantly. Instead of getting emotional she figured out what the math equation would be to get her line into three stores and realized it took 1000 asks in order for that to happen. Moving forward she just saw it as an equation and knew that it would take 1000 asks to be in 3 stores which helped remove the emotion from rejection. Thought this was so valuable and wanted to bring it back! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Getting comfortable with adapting, overcoming life changing obstacles and seeing the world through a better lens with Alyssa Greenberg
Alyssa Greenberg is a freelance photographer based in NYC with a focus in lifestyle, fashion and portraiture and has worked with some of the biggest names in brands and entertainment. Back in 2015, after having gone swimming in a lake with her friends, Alyssa's right eye unknowingly became infected with Acanthamoeba Keratitis, a parasite, that resulted in 2 cornea transplants and ultimately completely lost her vision in her right eye which is the eye she used to shoot with. While she says that she wouldn't wish what happened to her on her worst enemy, she is actually grateful it happened to her because it entirely shifted her perspective and view of life for the better. This life changing hurdle only reinforced her deep love of photography and she decided to adapt and persevere. She trained her left eye to be her "shooting eye" and says that losing her vision has actually driven her to become an even better photographer. On this episode we discuss her background into how she got into photography in the first place, she walks us through her whole process of having lost her vision and how she coped, what she learned about people and how they deal with pain, and her biggest learnings from going through it, we talk about the importance of being truly grateful (specifically for your health), why your passion doesn't necessarily need to be your carer, finding the small things to actually be the biggest victories and getting comfortable with adapting no matter the circumstance. If you can get through this, you can get through anything. A lesson on resilience and positivity with Rachel Liverman
Today's episode is with Rachel Liverman the founder of Glowbar, a no fluff facial spa that offers 30 minute customizable facials at $65 dollars. This is Rachel's second time on the podcast and I invited her back because she, like the most of us, has REALLY been tested when it comes to her business. Glowbar had only been open for 9 months before having to shut down due to the pandemic. Her business was entirely closed for 6 months since facials were deemed "phase-less" in New York and still found a way to pivot quickly, work on the foundation of her business and just last week she opened her second location now that facials are finally allowed in NY again and I just knew I had to have her on to talk about resilience and what this experience has taught her. On this episode I'm talking to her about the rollercoaster that was these 6 months, how she continued to stay so positive, the biggest learnings she's taken during this time, how she rallied her community to get Governor Cuomo's attention when he was ignoring the spa industry as a whole and of course, I ask her if her active ingredient has changed at all since the last time we spoke.
