409: Setting Inverted Goals for 2022 (Part 3 of 4)
Today, we continue with part 3 of our 4-part series on making 2022 your best year ever. If you haven’t heard Part 1 or Part 2, I definitely recommend that you go back and listen. In today’s episode, I introduce you to what I call “inverted goals.” Unlike a traditional goal which focuses on a predetermined outcome (e.g., I want to lose 10lbs), an inverted goal focuses on a predetermined process (e.g., exercise 5 days per week). Which predetermined processes (activities, habits, rituals, and routines) will you commit to this year that will move you toward the outcomes you want to achieve? Essentially, inverted goals are the goals that lead you to the outcome that you want to accomplish. 408: Getting Your Mind Right for 2022 (Part 2 of 4)
Last week, I shared "An Unconventional Way to Make 2022 Your Best Year Ever" and the premise of that episode was to measure your Best Year through a new paradigm, and that paradigm was based on the one thing you have complete control of: How you show up everyday. We broke that into two aspects: Your MINDSET and your BEHAVIORS. Today, I want to help you Optimize Your Mindset for 2022, and then create your affirmations and guidelines. 405: Lessons Learned from Reading Over 1,000 Personal Growth Books with Brian Johnson
What was the first personal development book you ever read? How did it impact you? For me, it was How to Win Friends & Influence People when I was 19 years old. It introduced me to the concepts of personal growth and personal development. It kickstarted my first career and was the catalyst for my decision to dedicate myself to lifelong personal development. My friend, Brian Johnson, embodies this at the highest level. He has read over 1,000 books related to philosophy and personal development. 404: How to Forgive Yourself and Others

403: How to be Prepared, Not Paranoid
I know this is a departure from topics I normally address on the podcast, but I hope you’ll listen and take this episode seriously, as well as read this email for more details and resources. I took the time to record this for you from a place of moral obligation. I don’t know if you’re aware, but we are experiencing a severe, unprecedented global supply chain crisis, and I’ve been researching and considering what this could mean for all of us. Specifically, there is a realistic possibility that we could experience food shortages in the relatively near future (this fall/winter). I’m talking about grocery stores and restaurants not being able to get food, and thus each of us having to rely on our own supply for an unknown length of time. After experiencing relatively minor food shortages when the pandemic hit (think empty grocery shelves and no toilet paper), and more extreme shortages here in Texas last winter during what was known as the “snow-pocalypse” (it was very difficult to find any meat at grocery stores), and now paying close attention to the current supply chains (I have friends in related industries who have confirmed it’s even worse than we’re being told), I encourage all of us to get at least a 30 day supply of food. Although being prepared for longer (2-6 months) wouldn’t hurt. As for what food to buy, if you Google “emergency food” you’ll get a bunch of unhealthy 25-year shelf life foods that are loaded with preservatives. But if you value eating healthy, I recommend simply ordering organic rice & beans, as well as mung beans that you can sprout (Google how to do that) - so that you can have “living” food that is also high in protein (7 grams of protein per 1 ounce). None of those are very expensive, even the organic stuff. I get all of the above on either Amazon or FoodToLive.com. As for meat, I recommend stocking up now and if you can afford it, getting a deep freezer to store it in. My wife and I found a used one on Craigslist and also use it to freeze a good amount of organic vegetables. We also got a backup generator to power our fridge and freezer, in case we lose power like we did last winter in Texas, for 5 consecutive days. If you want more variety, you might also consider buckwheat, oatmeal, nuts, freeze-dried fruits, and canned foods. Also, if you live in an area that experiences frozen pipes or power outages, stock up on bottled water and/or get a water filtration system like a Berkey filter (last year we also lost running water for 5 days). To be clear: I’m not advocating hoarding or panic buying. Consider that if we each buy a little bit more now, while supply chains are still in tact, and stock up on what we might need in an emergency situation, then if we reach an emergency situation, those who prepared in advance don’t have to go to the store and take food off of the shelves from those who weren’t prepared. And BTW, I’m certainly not trying to scare you. That’s not my intention here. Preparation isn’t about becoming paranoid. Quite the opposite. It’s about knowing that you’ll be ready for whatever comes, rather than worrying about what might be. In this short episode, I explain what I’ve been doing to plan ahead, including actionable steps you can take and resources you can use to be prepared. 400: Finding Freedom Living In a Van with Nick Conedera
What would you do if you had no responsibilities? If you could get rid of your job, all of your bills, and not have to answer to anyone—how would you spend your days? My friend and filmmaker, Nick Conedera (director of The Miracle Morning Movie) decided to answer that question for himself. He burned his possessions (literally), got rid of everything he owned, and spent three (3) years living in a van and traveling around the country. 399: We Are All The Same
Have you noticed how divided we have become as a society? The media is constantly pushing narratives that categorize people into groups, fostering animosity and even hate towards those who have different beliefs and opinions than we do. When we focus on our differences, we feel disconnected from one another. It not only hurts us as individuals, but collectively as a society. When we choose to see each other from the perspective of our similarities, our commonalities, and our sameness, we feel connected. We feel love, even when we disagree on topics, concepts, or beliefs. As individuals, it is our ability to live in alignment with our values that determines our level of fulfillment. 396: How Can We Bring Humanity Back Together?
Every day, we’re faced with the reality that humanity is divided right now, possibly more than ever. I’m seeing people be outright hateful to each other, in ways I’ve simply never seen before. Even wishing harm upon others has become all too common. I fear that humanity is losing the shared values that are necessary for us to sustain peace and unity. If you and I aren’t the change we want to see in the world—if we don’t stand for love, compassion, respect, forgiveness, freedom, and allowing each other the dignity to each choose how we live our lives—we, as a species, may be in more trouble than any of us can even imagine. But how can we love, respect, and forgive people who have wronged us, or who we view as a threat to our own safety? How can we honor our own values while getting along with people who may not share our values? Is it possible for us to remember that we are ALL fundamentally the same—human beings on this journey we call life—and to focus on and find common ground in our shared humanity, as opposed to our relatively superficial differences? In today’s episode, I want to unpack these questions and really try to answer them. It starts with you, and it starts with me. 393: How to Experience Both Types of Freedom
Today’s podcast covers precisely how to experience two (2) types of freedom that we all want: Outer Freedom and Inner Freedom. Outer Freedom is the ability to get yourself to do what you need to do—even when you don’t feel like it—in order to produce the results, outcomes, and circumstances that you want, in every aspect of your life. Inner Freedom is the ability to get yourself to feel exactly how you want to feel (happy, confident, calm, etc.), regardless of what’s happening in your life. How do you get yourself to do what you need to do–even when you don’t feel motivated to do something? When you can do things that produce results, you have outer freedom. How do you get yourself to feel the emotional and mental states that would enable you to enjoy this one life you’ve been given, even in the midst of tragedy, trauma, and forces outside of your control? When you access your ability to choose the way you feel, regardless of your circumstances, you have inner freedom. In today’s conversation, I’m going to share with you the most effective strategy I’ve ever implemented to achieve outer freedom. 392: How Eric Hansen Went from Homeless to Total Inspiration
Today’s episode is a very real, raw, and authentic conversation with someone who’s become a total inspiration to me, Eric Hansen. Despite living through unimaginable circumstances, he has figured out how to embody what I’ve been talking about for the past year… Inner Freedom. Eric is a recovering drug addict who began using at the age of 12, raised by his mother who was also an addict. He has been homeless multiple times, and he’s been in and out of jail and prison. “How’s life?” can often be a loaded question, especially with the state of the world right now. If you ask most people, they’ll run through an inventory of their circumstances. You might hear them talk about what’s going well, but, more often than not, you’ll hear about their problems, financial challenges, difficulties at work, struggles in their marriage, or other less-than-stellar circumstances. And when we’re not talking about our problems/circumstances, we’re thinking about them. We tend to listen to the voice in our head, stressing about the present and worrying about the future, and unconsciously allowing our emotional well-being to suffer. But what if there is more to life than our circumstances? What if life is actually the experience we’re having in the present moment? And what if you could learn how to transcend the voice in your head and live the majority of your life in the present moment? Do you consider yourself to be an optimist, a pessimist, or a realist? Optimism, pessimism, and realism are three different paradigms that impact how we approach life and interpret life’s events. For some, they’re even identities. When we face difficult times, our dominant paradigm tends to become amplified, which can be the determining factor in whether we suffer or thrive. I’ve experienced this in a unique way. For many years of my life, I was what I would call a delusional optimist. While this helped me through some difficult times, it also stopped me from healthily processing negative emotions and events, and I had to learn quite a few tough lessons the hard way. 385: How to Be Truly Happy in 3 Simple Steps
Would you say that you’re truly happy? In 2020, I got to a place where I was so depressed that I told my wife and my friends, “I don’t remember what it feels like to be happy.” That was after I had already sent my wife a desperate text message one night that read, “I don’t want to worry you, but I feel like I don’t want to live, and I don’t know what to do.” I was so scared that I’d never be able to get back to a place of happiness again and couldn’t remember how to get there. But over the course of the past year, I’ve gone from being the most unhappy I’ve ever been to arguably the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. It wasn’t a change in circumstances that led me there, it was a change in how I approach and view my life. If I were to ask you to recall the best moment of your life, what comes to mind…? I think most people would recall a significant event or occasion, such as the birth of a child, their wedding day, running a marathon, or the day that they got to ______ (fill in the blank with some exceptional experience). For most, the best moment would likely be an event or circumstance and the positive emotions they experienced as a result, which prompts them to identify it as their best moment. But what if the best moment of your life wasn’t measured by external circumstances? What if it was something you chose rather than something that occurred randomly? If that were the case, could one choose to make any, or every moment the best moment of their life? Might that be possible? And if it was possible to choose to experience any moment as the best moment of your life, if you had that ability, what would be the repercussions of using that ability daily? 374: How Can We Experience Heaven on Earth?
Okay, so I’m going to start by warning you that today’s podcast episode (and this email) might be a little more “woo-woo” than you’re used to from me. :^) I recorded today’s episode a few days ago, directly after I experienced one of the best Miracle Mornings of my life. I went deeper into meditation than I usually do, opening myself up to a message I felt I needed to receive, and got back something more direct, specific, and experiential than I expected. I felt like I was given the secret to accessing heaven on earth. And after I finished my meditation, I went out and lived it. I was able to look at myself with unconditional love, see the perfection in each moment, and be present to what came to me as the holy trinity of miracles: body + planet + spirit. 371: How to Experience True Happiness (In Every Moment)
How do you define happiness? And what if you had the power to be genuinely happy, all the time, no matter what was going on in your life? We’ve been conditioned to believe that happiness is something to be attained through achievement, success, and validation from others. Oftentimes, we make the mistake of treating happiness like it’s some sort of goal we must reach... “If only I had more money…” “If only I had a different career…” “If only I had better relationships...” “If only I had a more… different... better…” The truth is that happiness isn’t something you attain; it’s within you. It’s available to you 24/7, and it isn’t dependent on anything outside of you. You just need to understand how to tap into it. In today’s episode, I’m going to give you the tools to experience true happiness — even during difficult times — and teach you how to consistently wake up every day feeling like it’s the best day of your life (because it truly can be). 368: What Do We Need Right Now More Than Anything Else?
Ever since I finished writing my last book (The Miracle Equation), I’ve been actively learning and evolving in an attempt to figure out one thing: how can I best contribute to humanity? In other words, what do all of us need that I might be able to help people experience? Through daily meditation and prayer, engaging with your community, and consistently reading and learning, I have become more and more clear. I’m currently deep into the research phase, which means I’m reading and re-reading 6 or 7 books right now, as well as constantly striving to become the person I need to be to live and ultimately deliver that message. Rather than make you wait until a new book, in today’s episode, I’d like to share with you what I’ve been learning as I’ve experienced it. 366: My Clubhouse Welcome Party
