Jason Thomas Gordon
Welcome to The Singers Talk podcast based on my book of the same name. I’m Jason Thomas Gordon (singer/drummer of the Los Angeles rock band Kingsize), and when I first started singing for my band, I couldn’t believe there was no resource to find out how singers do this brutal job night after night. For something that seems easy, it can be truly dangerous, often embarrassing, and when you’re lucky… absolutely glorious.  So, this is me, reaching out to some of the greatest, most iconic singers of our time, discussing the one the thing they’re never asked about: their voices! Never thinking this was going to be a podcast, most of the interviews you’re going to hear are the intimate conversations, as I write the actual book…  If you’re a music fan, you’ll get a backstage look at how your favorite vocalists approach what they do onstage and in the studio. Packed with amazing stories you’ve never heard before, you’ll also find vulnerable sides of their personalities you might never have expected.  And if you’re a singer, trying to train, help, heal, or even find your voice — you’ll learn how the best in their field keep their vocal cords in shape, how they protect themselves on the road, and countless other tricks, strategies, and philosophies… Not a technical podcast in any way, The Singers Talk celebrates the people who stand up in front of that mic, reach down into their guts, and give everything they’ve got for the sake of the song. Sometimes it’s bloody. And sometimes it’s bloody hilarious.

Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. This week you’ll hear my conversation with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Geddy Lee from Rush.   Have you ever tried to sing with blood gushing from your nose, down your face, in front of 20,00 people? Well, Geddy’s gonna tell you all about it. In this episode you’re gonna hear us break down what it takes to be the guy who had the Herculean task of playing all those insane bass parts, while singing all demanding vocals, plus memorizing all the lyrics written by Neil Peart. We speak about how Geddy and the band meticulously prepared for shows, how he became a full blown germaphobe, how he survived all those nights on the road playing three hours sets, how his voice has changed throughout the years, the importance of what key you’re singing in… and how it felt to say goodbye to the band and their fans on the night of their final show as Rush. Sam Moore
Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. Al Schackman on Nina Simone
Al Schackman on Nina Simone
Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. This week you’ll hear my conversation with Al Schackman on Nina Simone. As Nina’s guitarist and musical director, she was more like a sister than anything. But this wasn’t just any sister. This was the mercurial, controversial, enigmatic, “high Priestess of Soul.” And with that comes incredible stories of her immense talent and outrageous temper, her fight for what she believed when it could literally get her killed, and that voice, that voice, that VOICE!   All my writer’s royalties from sales of the book benefit the kids and families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through our Music Gives to St. Jude Kids campaign. Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. This week you’ll hear my conversation with Jim James of the critically acclaimed, Americana, psychedelic, experimental, rock and roll band ~ My Morning Jacket. Because he’s always changing, striving and evolving, taking his voices places that its yet to go.   In this episode you’re gonna hear us talk about what he learned from Kermit the Frog and Chris Cornell. The power of reverb. Making mistakes. The beauty of making mistakes. How to connect with a song you wrote years ago. Tom Morello on Chris Cornell
Tom Morello on Chris Cornell
Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. This week you’ll hear my conversation with Tom Morello on the earth-shattering voice of Chris Cornell (Soundgarden / Audioslave).   We first met Tom as the guitarist of the legendary Rage Against the Machine, but soon after they disbanded, he joined together with Chris Cornell to form Audioslave, which saw both men reach new heights, critically and commercially. What these two guys also have in common is they are both considered the best in their field: kicking ass. What we’re getting here is a beautiful, fun, heartbreaking and revealing conversation about one of the greatest vocalists of all time. And it’ll make you miss that voice even more than we already do. God bless you, Chris.   All my writer’s royalties from sales of the book benefit the kids and families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through our Music Gives to St. Jude Kids campaign. Michael Stipe
Michael Stipe
Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. This week you’ll hear my conversation with Michael Stipe, the iconic singer of R.E.M. For me, the mark of a great vocalist isn’t just someone who can sing a tune. It’s about the personality the singer gives the vocal—that distinctive tone that lets you know who’s calling on the line. And when Michael Stipe calls, you know damn well who it is. A Multiple Grammy Award Winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, whose band has sold more than 85 million records worldwide. Michael Stipe has long been one of the most captivating and enigmatic front men in music, so I knew he was gonna be fascinating to speak with. But there was a lot more I didn’t know, and I couldn’t be more honored that he shared all of this with us.   All my writer’s royalties from sales of the book benefit the kids and families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through our Music Gives to St. Jude Kids campaign. Perry Farrell
Perry Farrell
Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. This week you’ll hear my conversation with Perry Farrell (Janes Addiction, Porno for Pyros, Satellite Party) The man helped reinvent the sound of rock music forever. A visionary and a poet, Perry tells us how he got where he is today, connecting with his heart, exploring the sound of his own voice, and throwing it out to the crowd. And if Kermit the Frog helps him get there, well, even better. Like the man himself, this one is truly beautiful, inspiring, and wild!    All my writer’s royalties from sales of the book benefit the kids and families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through our Music Gives to St. Jude Kids campaign. Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. My guest this week is too insane to believe. Because his name is Roger Daltrey. Who???? That’s right. The iconic singer of one of the most legendary, influential bands of the 20th century. In this episode you’re gonna hear us talk about the unforgiving nature of being a front man, how he and Pete Townsend work out their songs, singing with your real voice, singing from your guts, the stutter stylings of ‘My Generation,’ why ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again” is his least favorite song to sing, you’ll hear me fan out about some deep cuts that I love, and learn how Tommy made him become a Rock God.     All my writer’s royalties from sales of the book benefit the kids and families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through our Music Gives to St. Jude Kids campaign. Wendy Melvoin on Prince
Wendy Melvoin on Prince
Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. In this special episode I had the honor of speaking of with legendary songwriter, guitarist, producer, and iconic member of Prince & the Revolution: Wendy “Is the water warm enough?” Melvoin. I got to ask her questions I always wanted to know about Prince - some of them deeply personal - and Wendy was just so lovely and cool, I can’t say enough. And what can be said about Prince himself? The man sold over 150 million records, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, won seven Grammy’s, an Academy Award, and too many other awards to mention. But importantly, he changed our lives forever. Dig if you will this beautiful one….   All my writer’s royalties from sales of the book benefit the kids and families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through our Music Gives to St. Jude Kids campaign.
