AuKing Mining to launch stage 2 uranium drilling at Mkuju Project
AuKing Mining Ltd (ASX: AKN) managing director Paul Williams sits down with Proactive’s Jonathan Jackson to discuss preparations for a stage 2 exploration drilling program at the Mkuju Uranium Project in southern Tanzania. This program follows the identification of uranium mineralisation during the stage 1 program.
The company plans to drill 75 holes, covering about 11,000 metres, using a combination of aircore and reverse circulation (RC) drilling methods. The RC rig is selected for its capability to penetrate deeper rock, which is necessary due to difficult access conditions in some target areas.
Williams noted that stage 1 activities conducted in late 2023 highlighted several potential uranium-rich areas. The stage 2 drilling is expected to begin within the next few weeks, following the completion of road and drill pad access. Previous exploration results included notable uranium concentrations in auger and soil samples, with significant grades up to 8,800 ppm in soil and 3,350 ppm in auger drilling.
The company has allocated approximately $800,000 for this stage 2 program, with the intent to proceed to resource estimate definition drilling if the results indicate economically viable mineralisation.
