411 How to Fly Around the World for Free - Founder of The Canadian Jetsetter, Graeme Bligh
Do you dream of flying business class in one of those lie-flat seats with multiple course meals and unlimited wine on a long-haul flight like I do? Personally, the cheapskate in me could never pay for such an expensive airline ticket. But after interviewing Graeme Bligh, founder of The Canadian Jetsetter, I've learned that you may not have to. If you know how to play the credit card points game strategically, you can fly in luxury for free!
Because my episodes with Shawn Stewart, President of AIR MILES, and T.J. Dunn, Editor-in-Chief at Prince of Travel, were so popular, I wanted to invite Graeme on the show to find out his travel tips we can all learn from.
Over the past few years, Graeme has become one of the top Canadian content creators focused on educating Canadians about which points to collect and how to maximize them for incredible travel experiences. Not only does he make amazing short-form videos on his Instagram and Tiktok, you can also find his longer-form videos on his YouTube channel and stay in the loop of the latest travel deals by signing up for his newsletter.

410 What's Next After Achieving Financial Freedom? - TV Personality and Author of Laugh More, Debbie Travis
If you've been watching Debbie Travis decorate on TV for years like I have, then you're going to love hearing what she's up to now! Basically, she's living my dream, having moved to Tuscany a decade ago where she now spends her days making her own olive oil and wine, hosting groups of women for life-changing retreats at her villa and writing books about her life like her latest one: Laugh More: Stories from an Unexpected Life.
This was what she envisioned as her next chapter after pioneering the modern-day home decorating show, writing multiple books, and making her wealth through her production company and brand deals all before it was cool to do it. So the question remains, what's your next chapter look like once you've reached your version of financial freedom?
In this episode, we talk about her incredible career and financial journey from broke model in London to household name in Canada, while also exploring how we should all dream big, make plans and take more risks because we only have one life to live (so might as well live it to the fullest).

409 Surviving to Selling Luxury Real Estate on Sunset - Star of Selling Sunset and Author of Selling Sunshine, Mary Bonnet
If you're a big Selling Sunset fan like I am, then you're going to love this episode! I had to pull a few strings with my publisher to get Mary Bonnet on the show, but I'm so glad! Not only did I absolutely love her new book Selling Sunshine: Surviving Teenage Motherhood, Thriving in Luxury Real Estate, and Finally Finding My Voice, but she was so candid about the ups-and-downs she's experienced with money on the podcast too! I think she may be the first guest to share her credit score on the show, which she's working on getting back into the 800s after her second husband forced her to declare bankruptcy.
I say it a few times throughout this episode, but Mary's story is really about how resilience can be your superpower. Life can be difficult and unfair at times, but if you keep getting back up after each financial setback, you never know where it may lead you. In Mary's case, it led her to a successful career as a luxury real estate agent in LA on top of being a star on Netflix's popular TV show Selling Sunset.

408 Being Wise with Your Money at Home and Abroad - Principal Product Manager at Wise, Ankita D’Mello
We're more global than ever, and the same goes for our money. We travel internationally more frequently, work or go to school abroad, move to different countries and receive or send money back home. Our money needs to keep up with how fluid our lives are. Unfortunately, most banks or currency exchange shops are still living in the dark ages, making it hard for us to easily move money around with us.
That's why I wanted to discuss how we can all be wiser with our money with Ankita DMello, Principal Product Manager at Wise. I've personally been using Wise for years for a few different reasons. It started with my business, as I work with contractors from different countries and wanted a seamless and low-fee way to pay them. Then, I started using it for travel. Instead of relying solely on my credit cards and being charged a foreign transaction fee plus a marked-up exchange rate, I now load up my Wise card with funds (which works similarly to a debit card) so I can pay for things in that country's local currency for a much lower fee and the mid-market exchange rate, which is the fairest exchange rate out there.
In this episode, we explore different scenarios in which you may not even realize you're paying high fees or aren't getting the best exchange rate, some common misconceptions about exchanging currency, current trends Wise is seeing with its customers' use of the platform, and the importance of being strategic with the financial tools available so you can reduce the fees you pay and keep more money for more important things.

407 A Guide to Building an Abundant Life - Author of Beyond Getting By, Holly Trantham
When you're at the start of your personal finance journey, typically you've got one focus — how to get by. That means catching up on your bills, getting rid of your debt, putting money into savings, and getting to a place where you can finally breathe again. But once you've scaled that big mountain, where do you go next? That's where Holly Trantham's book Beyond Getting By: The Financial Diet's Guide to Abundant and Intentional Living comes in.
Holly is the creative director of The Financial Diet, where she's been talking about money on and offline since 2016. This new book is the sequel to TFD co-founders Chelsea Fagan and Lauren Ver Hage's first book The Financial Diet: A Total Beginner's Guide to Getting Good with Money. It's your guide on how to not only get to the next level with your money, but more importantly, how to start feeling good about your money. This means starting to think of money less as a goal to achieve and more as a tool to help you live a life that brings you comfort and joy. It also means determining what does true happiness mean for you outside of money, because money can only help so much.

405 What You Can Learn About Wealth from the Stoics - Author of The Stoic Path to Wealth, Darius Foroux
We can learn a lot about wealth if we just look to the Stoics. So much so that author Darius Foroux wrote a whole book on it! In his new book The Stoic Path to Wealth: Ancient Wisdom for Enduring Prosperity, he shares how closely interconnected wealth-building and success are to Stoicism, the philosophy of focusing on the things in life you can control (such as your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours) while accepting those you cannot.
Darius has been practicing this way of thinking for years and has been able to see first-hand the fruits of his labours for doing so. He's been able to take the emotion out of investing, stay disciplined when managing his finances, and not get sucked into the greed trap by remembering that money is just a tool to live the life you want, it's not the goal itself.

404 Unlocking Your Potential - CEO of ENTRE Institute and Author of Unlocking Your Potential, Jeff Lerner
How do you feel about your life right now, in this moment? I've gotta say, this question has been heavily on my mind the past year since I've had to do a lot of introspection for my upcoming book. Am I happy? Where am I headed? What is my personal potential and am I doing all I can to unlock it? For the season 18 finale of the More Money Podcast, I invited my guest Jeff Lerner on the show to discuss how we can all design a fulfilling life and change course if we need to... and what money's role has to do with it.
Jeff has a very interesting background. He quit high school to become a professional pianist, but in 2008, his world flip over. Faced with eviction and a divorce, struggling with depression and $495,000 in debt, he was not where he wanted to be in life. So, he set out on a quest to change that, and a decade later he was able to redesign his life into one that truly fulfilled him, but one that also helped him gain financial security through his multiple 8-figure earning businesses. Nowadays his focus is to teach others how to develop their own life operating system through his ENTRE Institute so they too can live a life that checks all their physical, personal and professional boxes.
As the last episode of this season, I hope this interview serves as some much-needed inspiration for you as you continue working on yourself, and your finances, while I take a break for the summer. And guess what, when the podcast comes back in the fall, I'll have many more details to share about my book! But also speaking of books, make sure to grab a copy of Jeff's book Unlocking Your Potential (or enter to win a copy in my book giveaway!).

402 Reshaping the Way You Give to Charity - Founder and CEO of Charitable Impact, John Bromley
We talk a lot about investing, budgeting, and spending our money... but what about giving it away? An often overlooked but important element of personal finance is making sure our money flows through our communities and helps make the world a safer, kinder and better place. That's why I invited founder and CEO of Charitable Impact, John Bromley, on the podcast to discuss the importance of philanthropy, how to give in alignment with your values, and how to donate to make the biggest impact. Make sure to check out after this episode Charitable Impact. I stumbled upon it and just think it's such a great tool to help you donate your money to multiple causes through one simple account while also giving you that oh-so-nice charitable tax receipt for tax time.

401 How to Travel Better with Aeroplan Points - Editor-in-Chief at Prince of Travel, T.J. Dunn
We talked about how to use AIR MILES to travel better in episode 393 with President Shawn Stewart, and since getting so much great feedback from that episode, I thought why not do an episode talking about another great loyalty program for travel — Aeroplan. And since one of the best online sources for information about Aeroplan is Prince of Travel, I invited Editor-in-Chief T.J. Dunn on the show to find out all his tips, tricks, and secrets.
As someone who has been travel-hacking with Aeroplan points for years, T.J. now helps others learn how to use points to get free (or almost free trips), how to fly business class for a fraction of the cost, and when are the best times to book travel with points to get the best value.
All I can say is I've never been more excited about my future trip to Italy now that I know my flights are basically already paid for!

400 Fighting for a Just Economy - Co-Authors of Fair Shake, Naomi Cahn and Nancy Levit
Us women have come a long way to close the pay gap... or have we? Legal scholars Naomi Cahn, June Carbone, and Nancy Levit would argue that we are actually further away from pay parity than we think and there is much more work to be done for us to have a just economy.
Despite leaning in, getting advanced degrees, and working twice as hard, women's wages are still being eroded and there is still barely any female representation in lucrative industries like tech, finance, and law (as they've personally witnessed as lawyers and law professors themselves). So, what can be done?
In their new book, Fair Shake: Women and the Fight to Build a Just Economy and in this podcast episode, they not only identify the root problem and share real-life stories from women fighting the good fight, but they also share a path forward that both women and allies can walk together.

399 The Proven System to Become a Millionaire - Author of Millionaire Mission and Founder and Host of “The Money Guy Show, Brian Preston
I've been a big fan of Brian Preston and The Money Guy Show for years, so it was so fun having Brian on the show to talk money and discuss his new book Millionaire Mission: A 9-Step System to Level-Up Your Finances and Build Wealth.
The reason I was initially drawn to Brian, besides his super friendly demeanour (and that amazing southern accent), is he just tells it like it is. No fluff. No BS. Just damn good financial advice. And that's because he has over 25 years of financial planning experience, so he's seen it all and he knows bad advice or people just trying to get clicks online when he sees it. But more than that, you can tell that he genuinely loves helping people improve their financial lives, which is likely why he's helped millions of people over the years get out of debt, save more money, and build wealth through his podcasts, YouTube channel, courses, social media posts, and his Abound Wealth Management company.
For anyone looking for a clear guide on how to build wealth so they can eventually become a millionaire, Brian has some great strategies he shares in this episode as well as his book (which don't forget, I'm giving away a copy of!).

398 Ask Me Anything About Money - Jessica Moorhouse
It's been over a year since my last solo episode, and oh boy did I have fun with it! Thank you to everyone who submitted a question. I tried my best to get to most of them, but if I'm honest, some of them were just too specific so on those cases, as I mention in the episode, I'd suggest hiring a fee-only financial planner to get specific financial advice which is something I can't provide through the podcast. I hope to do more of these in the future, maybe even make it a regular thing, but for now, enjoy!

397 Taxes, Write-Offs and Running a Small Business - CPA, Course Creator & Speaker, Jami Monte
If you're self-employed in Canada, listen up because this episode is for you! Since posting some videos about setting up a small business and figuring out income tax and sales tax on my YouTube channel years ago, I still get questions about write-offs, tax rules, and registering a business on the daily. But I'm not an accountant, so often I have to tell people to seek professional advice from a CPA. Enter my next guest Jami Monte who is a CPA and has a ton of great resources including a course all about how to set up your small business properly in Canada.
In this episode, she shares some new tax updates if you haven't filed your 2023 taxes yet, but for the most part, we just do a deep dive on the most common questions I get from self-employed folks about bookkeeping, accounting and making sure they are doing everything right.

396 How to Earn Smarter, Not Harder - Financial Content Creator, Nathan Kennedy
With finfluencers everywhere talking about 6-figure incomes and starting a side hustle, is it even possible to build wealth, reach your financial goals and retire one day working a 9-to-5? It sure is, and that's one of the reasons I invited Nathan Kennedy, who you may know from TikTok or Instagram as NewMoneyNate, to talk all about it.
In this podcast episode, Nathan not only shares his tips for employees to earn smarter, not harder while living the life they want, but we also discuss financial certifications and the lack thereof with many financial content creators (and whether it really matters), Nathan's journey from 9-to-5er to full-time financial literacy educator, common money mistakes he hears from his audience, and career and negotiation advice that actually works.

394 Why Women Need to Invest More Than Ever - Author of Invest Like a Girl, Jessica Spangler
It's always exciting to have another Jessica on the show and I've got the amazing Jessica Spangler on the podcast today! Doctor by day and financial content creator by night, she has just come out with her first book called Invest Like a Girl aimed at empowering women to take control of their finances and build wealth. Because as the data shows, women are actually really, really good at investing. However, data also shows that many women are still hoarding cash instead of investing it, and this needs to change (especially since statistically we live longer than men so we need that extra money!).
In this episode, we delve into what inspired Jessica to take her finances seriously and start teaching others about it on the side, what barriers women face when it comes to financial education, earning higher incomes and taking action with their money, and some practical steps to get started right after this episode. And one of those steps could be to check out my very own investing course called Wealth Building Blueprint for Canadians.

393 How to Get the Most Out of AIR MILES - President of AIR MILES, Shawn Stewart
Are you leaving money on the table by not collecting rewards? Or maybe you don't think it's worth the time and energy of signing up and remembering to scan your card (or use the app) to collect? Well, to hopefully change your mind and get you to start earning rewards on things you're already spending money on, for this episode, I'm joined by President of AIR MILES Shawn Stewart who shares what big changes have happened to the program, what innovations are to come, and how you can take advantage of this free program to earn miles and redeem for travel, merchandise and so much more.
I've actually been an AIR MILES member since I was in my early 20s and it was the first rewards program I ever signed up to since I remember being told by my mom that if you're not collecting rewards, you're missing out on free money. And it's true. Over the years, I've been able to redeem my miles for gift cards, free groceries, and merchandise, and it costs me nothing to participate besides the time it takes for me to whip out my card (or the app) and scan it whenever I'm doing my shopping.
I've always been of the mind that loyalty programs should be part of everyone's financial plan, so hopefully you'll learn a few things about why rewards are important, why you should take advantage, and what are the best ways to earn and redeem AIR MILES specifically.
This episode of the More Money Podcast is sponsored by AIR MILES®. Sign up today and start earning rewards with the AIR MILES Reward Program™.

392 Breaking Free from Scarcity - New York Times Bestselling Author of Scarcity Brain and The Comfort Crisis, Michael Easter
Do you ever feel like no matter what you do there's never enough? Never enough time. Never enough stuff. And especially never enough money. If you said yes, you're not alone. For most of us humans, we're stuck in a scarcity loop without knowing how we got there or how to get out. Luckily, there is a way out, and New York Times bestselling author of Scarcity Brain, Michael Easter, is on the show to talk all about it.
For your reference, the scarcity loop is: Opportunity -> Unpredictable Reward -> Quick Repeatability
Once you understand this, you can start seeing how it appears in all aspects of your life and how it can especially impact your financial present and future. But as Michael shares in his book, although scarcity helped our ancestors survive in a world where there wasn't enough, it's actually hurting us in this new world of abundance. The only way to combat this is to become aware of our triggers and behaviours and reevaluate what success and fulfillment mean outside of consumerism.

391 Your Future Self Will Thank You: How to Retire Well - Author of Your Best Financial Life, Anne Lester
It's been a tough road for millennials and Gen Zs with mountains of student debt, recessions, layoffs, and housing prices going through the roof to deal with. But as my next guest shares in this episode, all hope isn't lost and it's still possible to live your best financial life and have a comfortable retirement.
Anne Lester, author of Your Best Financial Life, has been hailed as a "pioneer and innovator" by Morningstar and has worked in all aspects of retirement for the past 30 years. In other words, she's seen plenty of ups and downs in the markets and people's financial lives and still believes that anyone can change their financial future if they follow the strategic path she sets out in her book. She was able to become "work optional" at 60 and hopes to teach as many people as she can how they can take control of their financial destinies and live a better financial life moving forward.

390 What Every Canadian Should Know About Money - Academic Director of McGill Personal Finance Essentials Benjamin Croitoru
When my Canadian listeners ask me "I want to get a hold of my money, but I don't know where to start, also I'm looking for something that's free..." that's when I direct them to one of the best free personal finance resources around — the McGill Personal Finance Essentials course. Having first launched in November 2019 as free way to improve Canadians' financial literacy, it now boasts over 200,000 participants, and lucky you (and me), I've got Dr. Benjamin Croitoru on the podcast to talk all about it!
Benjamin serves as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and an Assistant Professor of Finance, McGill Desautels Faculty of Management. But more importantly, he's the Academic Director of the McGill Personal Finance Essentials online course and has been vital in its development and in helping so many Canadians level up their financial lives over the past 5 years. I wanted to bring him on the show to share why the course was built, what you can expect as a student, and some of the key things every Canadian should know about money. He even shares some of his best money tips, financial pitfalls to avoid and top book recommendations too.
So I hope after you listen to today's episode, you'll take another step on your personal finance journey and take this free 8-module course. Did I mention you get a certificate upon completion to boot?

389 Career First, Job Second: Breaking into the C-Suite - Co-Authors of Career Forward, Grace Puma & Christiana Smith Shi
What's the best path to carve out a successful career for yourself, especially if you're a woman who has to navigate unique biases and barriers like the gender pay gap and the motherhood penalty? Let's ask my next guests Grace Puma, former PepsiCo COO and Christiana Smith Shi, former Nike President of Consumer Direct. Not only have both women built decades-long careers from scratch reaching the coveted C-Suite, but they've also joined forces to share all the wisdom they've learned along the way in their new book Career Forward: Strategies from Women Who've Made It.
The facts are that as women, it's still harder to reach certain career heights since we don't yet live in a perfectly equitable world. But that shouldn't stop us from trying, especially since it also means making it easier for future generations to get to the top. There are so many amazing pieces of career (and life) advice in this episode, but I think my favourite ones are thinking of your career as a growth stock and focusing on your career, not your job.

388 Money in the Shadow of Terminal Illness - Host of CBC's Sickboy and Founder of Snack Labs Jeremie Saunders
How would your relationship with money change if you had a terminal illness? Let me tell you right now, it would have a huge impact on it! This is why I wanted to have Jeremie Saunders on the show to share his story.
He's the co-host of the Sickboy Podcast and lives with cystic fibrosis. From an early age, he knew that having CF would cut his lifespan short, which on the one hand made him live life to the fullest but on the other, meant he didn't think too far into the future when it came to his money. That is until he was introduced to a new drug that would lengthen his life exponentially. This meant that things like getting married and starting a family were no longer out of reach, but it also meant he needed to start thinking about tackling his finances and building long-term wealth.
In this episode, Jeremie provides insight into his battle with CF, how provincial healthcare has played a significant role in his life and career, and how he hopes his Sickboy Podcast can not only put a spotlight on living with illness but why it's so important to have open conversations about health, wealth, and our own mortality.

387 Why Some People's Finances Improved During COVID - Author and Senior Economist Scott Fulford
And we're back with Season 18 of the More Money Podcast! I think it's finally not "too soon" to talk about the pandemic and what the heck happened (right?). That's why I invited Scott Fulford on the show, a senior economist at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the author of the newly released book The Pandemic Paradox: How the COVID Crisis Made Americans More Financially Secure. I know, that sounds a bit odd doesn't it? How could people have become more financially secure when all the news headlines talked about were layoffs and people struggling to pay their bills? Well, as Scott discovered in his research and interviews with Americans across the country, although many people did have a tough time riding out the COVID wave, the majority actually thrived financially. But why was this? That's what you'll learn by listening to the full episode. I'm also giving away a copy of Scott's book, so make sure to visit jessicamoorhouse.com/contest to enter to win!

386 How This Wall Street Trader Became a Millionaire in Only 2 Years - Vivian Tu, Author of Rich AF and Founder of Your Rich BFF
It's the Season 17 finale and to wrap up yet another incredible season, I've got Vivian Tu of on the show to share her journey of being raised by immigrant parents, getting into an elite university to make her parents proud, becoming the lone woman of colour Wall Street trader on her team, then leaving it all for the world of Tiktok to become one of the most followed finfluencers who's been able to amass a net worth north of a million dollars in only two years. Oh, and did I mention she also has a new book coming out (that you can enter to win!) called ? As someone who has been a financial educator and influencer for close to 12 years, it was so fascinating for me to learn how Vivian was able to skyrocket into online popularity during the height of Covid while sticking to her Wall Street roots by making sure to educate her young following about the key things they should know about money and building wealth while staying true to her values. The podcast will be on break for January but expect to see Season 18 in February so I can finish writing my own book that will be out next winter! 385 What Your Identity Says About Your Money - Ellyce Fulmore, Author of Keeping Finance Personal and Owner of Queerd Co.
Money can be a simple thing, but it can also be complex when you take into account one important factor — people. Financial content creator and new author is on the podcast today to discuss her new book, , as well how we all need to adopt a more shame-free and trauma-aware approach to money. You see, there's a reason managing money and building wealth comes easy to some and not others. For Ellyce, she realized that her identity as a queer woman with ADHD played a much larger role in her finances than she initially realized. So just think, what does your identity say about your money? Does it mean you face certain barriers that others don't? Does it mean it takes you longer to learn? Does it mean you'll struggle more with things like sticking to a budget or overcoming your anxiety with investing compared to others? The answer is a resounding YES! Personal finance is personal as they say, but often I think that important fact is still overlooked or ignored by many. For full episode show notes visit: https://jessicamoorhouse.com/385

384 Charting Your Financial Freedom Journey - Jamila Souffrant, Author of Your Journey to Financial Freedom and Podcast Host of Journey to Launch
I'm so excited to have my next guest come back for a second time on the show because she's not only that much closer to achieving her goal of financial independence but she's also just published her first book on how we can all follow in her footsteps! I'm talking about , the host of the Journey to Launch podcast who you may remember from . Her new book, Your Journey To Financial Freedom A Step-by-Step Guide to Achieving Wealth and Happiness, goes in-depth about what specific steps we all should be taking to save more, pay down debt, and ultimately build more wealth so we can live more and be able to pass down more wealth to future generations. Although Jamila has reached some big milestones recently, it's been a long journey to get where she is. Her journey actually started with paying down $169,000 in debt in just two years, while also balancing running a full-time business and being a mom of three young children in Brooklyn, New York. If you're looking for some motivation to either start or continue your own personal finance journey, you need to listen to this episode. 383 Why You Don't Have to Love Your Job - Simone Stolzoff, Author of The Good Enough Job
I've been teasing this episode throughout the season because Simone Stolzoff's book just so happens to be one of the best books I've read all year (and I can't shut up about it). In the personal finance space, we often talk about working, earning an income, getting raises and promotions, and the ultimate dream of having a career you're passionate about. But the reality is... work is still work even if it is your passion. Not only that, there are a ton of downsides to working a job you're passionate about as Simone shares stories about in his book. Maybe there is something to be said for keeping your life and livelihood separate. Maybe you don't have to be passionate about your job but can funnel that passion into your personal life instead. Maybe Mark Twain was full of crap when he was quoted as saying "Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life." As a journalist, designer, author and now someone who quit his 9-to-5 to work for himself, Simone joins me on the podcast to discuss why having a job that's good enough may actually be what we should be striving for instead of a career that tries to fulfill us in every possible way. 382 Wealth, Women and the Ambition Penalty - Stefanie O'Connell Rodriguez, Writer and Founder of Too Ambitious
Why is there still a gender pay gap? Why are women so often criticized or penalized for being ambitious and career-focused? Why is it so much harder for women to build the same kind of wealth and achieve the same form of success as men when they follow the same rules? These are some big questions to ask, which is why I invited back on the show to try to answer them. Since Stefanie was first on , all the way back in 2016, a lot has changed since then. Over the past few years, she's launched the website as well as an award-winning newsletter of the same name to tackle topics often overlooked in the personal finance space such as the gender pay gap, the motherhood penalty, and other barriers that women in particular face when it comes to building wealth and successful careers compared to their male counterparts. In our discussion together, Stefanie not only shares her take on some of the hot-button issues, but she also brings receipts in the form of hard data and academic studies. 381 The Canadian Guide to Getting Rich (Slowly) - Adrian Bar a.k.a Canadian in a T-Shirt, YouTuber
This is a very special episode for all my Canadian listeners who are also fans of Canadian personal finance YouTuber . Having amassed over 140,000 subscribers on YouTube and millions of views, Adrian has been consistent with his get-rich-slowly approach to teaching Canadians about taxes, investing, and saving their money. And what's even more exciting about having him on the show is I had Adrian over at my home studio to do the recording! I haven't done this since 2019, and it was seriously such a blast talking about his journey from working in AI to becoming a full-time content creator, his investment philosophy and strategies he lives by, and of course his top money tips for listeners like you. 380 The Art of Reinventing Yourself with Mary Sanders - Olympian and Author of 9 Lives by 35
What's it like to be an Olympian, a Cirque du Soleil performer, and a Vice President of Entertainment and Pictures for Shark Tank Robert Herjavec's company? Well, that's why I've got my next guest on the show to tell me, in addition to sharing the lessons she's learned about reinventing herself (multiple times) which she documents in her new book . Mary learned the value of a dollar early in life when her dad passed away when she was 8 and her mom had to raise her and her siblings on a single income. Inspired by her dad's legacy as a Big Ten Champion, she started taking gymnastics seriously and soon became a two-time Canadian Champion in Rhythmic Gymnastics. Keen to reach her full potential, she started competing for the U.S. and eventually made it to the 2004 Olympics. But what happens when you've aged out of professional sports? You need to reinvent yourself, which is what Mary did by starting a new career with Cirque du Soleil. But after several years as a performer, she realized she needed to pivot again, which brought her to her current career in business. Mary's story of starting from almost nothing to becoming a champion gymnast to then having to switch careers multiple times should serve as inspiration for us all that life isn't a straight and narrow path and it's okay to experience setbacks in life. What's important is to keep going, changing, and being open to what life has in store for you next. For full episode show notes visit: https://jessicamoorhouse.com/380

Money isn't everything, and it most certainly shouldn't be the thing that dictates where your life takes you (or holds you hostage). No one knows this better than Mick Heyman, author of . After working in wealth management for 40 years, he realized he wasn't happy where he was and had been chasing the money to a life he couldn't even recognize anymore. That's when he made a big change, moved from Louisville, Kentucky to San Diego, and finally started living life on his terms. His years of experience in finance and life change (that turned out to be one of the best decisions he ever made) inspired him to share his experience and best financial tips with others in his new book so we all can learn how to mellow our money a bit more. 378 The Inclusive Workplace Revolution - Ayo Owodunni, Author of The Immigrant View and City Councillor in Kitchener, Ontario
It’s not easy immigrating to a new country and trying to navigate a new workplace with different shorthand, customs, and rules… especially when that workplace isn’t set up so all employees feel seen, heard, and safe no matter their background. This was Ayo Owodunni’s initial experience when he immigrated to Canada from Nigeria back in 2016, before he became a City Counsellor for Kitchener Ontario and a management consultant for large-scale organizations such as Spotify, Canada Life, Microsoft, Thomson Reuters, CIBC, TMX Group and Hydro One. Seeing as over the past 5 years, Canada has welcomed over 1.5 million immigrants, with 6 out of 10 being economic migrants with years of professional experience and education, Ayo realized fairly quickly in his work that big change needed to happen on the institutional level. This is what inspired him to write his new book, , to help companies develop a more inclusive culture and take advantage of the extensive skill sets that newcomers to Canada bring to the table as employees. In this episode, we discuss the specific challenges that immigrants may face in the workplace, the qualities of inclusive leadership, the importance of cultural intelligence, as well as practical steps for building a harmonious and diverse team. 377 From Never Enough to MoneyZen - Manisha Thakor, CFA, CFP and Author of MoneyZen
Have we lost sight of what's really important in life and are we too focused on hustling our way to riches? For many of us, the answer is yes, and thanks to Manisha Thakor and her new book , we can start learning how to get back to a place of zen. I'm so excited to have Manisha on the show because her book is honestly right up my alley (as you may have noticed with some of the themes of the podcast lately). In this episode, she helps break down some of the personal, cultural, and societal forces that exist that have led many of us to falsely believe we can never have or be enough, and what steps we can take to embrace pure joy and have a healthier relationship with money. Manisha has worked in the financial services industry for more than 30 years, with an emphasis on women's economic empowerment and financial well-being. In addition to MoneyZen, she has also co-authored two other personal finance books: and . Although she's a CFA, CFP and has her MBA from Harvard Business School, Manisha's work now focuses on helping people of all ages to balance their financial health with their emotional wealth. 376 Better Financial Decision-Making Through Mastering Confidence - Peter Atwater, Economist and Author of The Confidence Map
Why is it that often what's in the way of us achieving our financial goals and attaining wealth is ourselves? That's what I'm discussing with Peter Atwater, economics professor and author of , on the show today. After decades of working in financial services, when he turned 45 he abruptly quit his job (partially because his son reminded him he was halfway to 90) and changed course to study confidence and the impact it has on individual and group decision-making. Now, he's out with a book all about it in addition to teaching the topic at William & Mary University as well as the honors program at the University of Delaware. As we've discussed on the show before, money is simple but the hard part is controlling how it makes us feel. Luckily Peter offers some great insight into how to own those feelings so we can do a better job of reigning them in when we need to and make better financial decisions for the long-term. 375 Unlocking the Power of the Sharing Economy - Eleanor Tucker, Author of Thanks for Sharing, Speaker and Sharing Economy Consultant
We hear the word “sustainability” a lot more now than we used to, but what can people like you and me actually do to make an impact? What role can we play to ensure we’re putting less waste in landfills and are being more thoughtful consumers? To answer these questions and more, I have Eleanor Tucker, author of , on the show. In this episode, she not only shares her personal journey of becoming more sustainable and trying out new apps and programs within the sharing economy with her family, but she also provides actionable tips for people in the US, UK and Canada so we can all start right doing something right after listening to this episode! I’ve gotta say, after talking with Eleanor, I found myself having a lot more hope for our future and our planet. Although bigger change needs to happen at the top (e.g. corporate and government levels), that doesn’t mean we can’t do what we can to save this planet we love as well as reconnect with one another in our neighbourhoods, cities, and global communities. Shannon is a seasoned marketer with nearly 25 years of experience. In her current role as Chief Marketing Officer at CanadaHelps, she recently lead the launch of UniteforChange.com, a site targeted towards younger Canadians where they can donate to Cause Funds, a new and innovative way to give where a single donation supports a group of registered charities working towards the same cause. In this episode, Shannon shares what obstacles Canadian charities are currently facing post-pandemic and how we as individuals can help going forward. Shannon also shares how Unite for Change is changing the way we donate and the many benefits donating to Canadian charities offers to improve our environment and society now and into the future.
