How KeepCup is fighting waste with founder | ABIGAIL FORSYTH!
Ever wondered who started the reusable coffee cup revolution? We’re chatting with none other than Abigail Forsyth, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of KeepCup.
In 2007, after introducing reusable soup mugs at her café, Abi and her brother decided to create their own reusable coffee cup. The now-iconic KeepCup is found in over 75 countries, diverting millions of disposable cups from landfill every day.
In today’s episode, Abi schools Rohan and Kirk on the environmental impact of single-use cups. But here’s the big question: How do you run an eco-friendly business while still selling products? Wouldn’t the most sustainable option be no takeaways at all? We dive into the unfair blame placed on consumers when it comes to waste, and shift the focus toward the larger players (I’m looking at you Amazon).
Plus, we explore adding surcharges to single-use cups, the impact of COVID on coffee culture, and the deflating social mood towards eco-friendly products (just let us die).

Your favourite barista’s favourite barista | JADE JENNINGS !
Hey! Today we’re talking to the wonderful Jade Jennings.
Jade is a championship barista, coffee trainer, and all-round legend. Her journey began in 2005 when she transitioned from disability care to part-time work at Hudsons Coffee. Since then, she’s earned the titles of 2016/2017 Southern Barista Champion and runner-up in the 2016 Australian Barista Championships—all while raising a young family, which she describes as “like having two full-time jobs.”
So, how does she do it??
We discuss her experience as a barista trainer; what skills she teaches first, mastering taste, the secrets of latte art, and the impact of modern machinery on brewing. Plus, Jade details how she’d go about starting a coffee business - get your pens peoples!

‘The Cup That Counts’ | a documentary with SAM KECK !
Hiya! Join us this morning as we chat with legendary Commonfolk Co-founder, Sam Keck.
Commonfolk Coffee is a roasting and brewing company with locations in Frankston, Mornington and South Yarra. More than just a cafe, Commonfolk have created ‘The Cup That Counts’ initiative, purchasing a coffee farm in the Ugandan highlands to ensure all their coffee is ethically sourced.
Sam discusses the importance of partnership with coffee producers, as well as the risks of deregulated trade. Since 2013, Commonfolk have supported thousands of farmers in Uganda, providing training for locals and nurturing sustainable coffee practices. Sam’s most recent project, documentary ‘Every Cup Counts’ follows the relationship between Commonfolk and the farmers of Mt Elgon, Uganda.
In coffee news: Robots are coming for the jobs of baristas and bar staff via the botrista, and Nestle develops a higher yielding coffee plant. Plus, Sam has a gripe (or grape) with natural wine drinkers, and Kirk contemplates the throughline between baristas and bouldering.

LACHLAN WARD! | Why ST. ALi Increased Coffee Prices, A Talk with the CEO.

Lachlan, originally from Byron Bay, moved to Melbourne in his early twenties and fell in love with its cafe scene. Working his way up in hospitality, Lachlan now heads one of Australia’s biggest coffee groups, ST. ALi, with the brand recently opening its first overseas venue in Pererenan, Bali.
But he hasn’t forgotten his Byron roots, discussing the power of mindfulness and using running as a meditative practice. BREAKING NEWS! - S.C.A.P. president rejects infused coffees
Infused coffee should NOT be considered specialty coffee
The President of the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama released a very controversial statement earlier this week stating its rejection of infused coffee at the Best of Panama Competition.
It goes on to say that altered coffees jeopardise the hard work of Panamanian coffee and “should be categorised separately, clearly distinguishing them from genuine Speciality Coffee”
Who better to discuss this topic on ‘It’s Just Coffee!’ than Founder of Criteria Coffee, Craig Simon. Craig is a 3 times Barista Champion and the First Q Grade Instructor in the southern hemisphere (1 of 50 positions held worldwide)
You’ll hear both sides of the story and get an in-depth understanding of why this statement is huge in the coffee industry and just exactly why co-fermented coffees are getting a closer look.

GOOD MEASURE | 'Mont Blanc' - From Idea to Icon
Hi coffee people! Today’s episode features Brandon and Mitch, 2 of the 3 owners of Good Measure.
Good Measure is a vibey cafe on Lygon Street in Melbourne’s northside. During the day, they serve up delicious sandwiches and the very famous ‘Mont Blanc’, a lightly sweetened filter coffee topped with whipped cream and an orange nutmeg spice. At night, this space transforms into a cosy, Japanese-inspired cocktail bar. With vinyls spinning, Good Measure will serve a stunning range of sake and unique signature cocktails, accompanied by snacks like their house made kimchi-fries.
Rohan and Kirk unpack with the boys what it’s truly like running Good Measure. You’ll hear stories of the early days when Good Measure was just an idea and how that idea continually evolved into the cafe Melbourne now knows and loves. You’ll also hear the hilarious side of this cafe (ahem, the time Brandon fell through the ceiling during a very busy Saturday) and uncover the challenges they face working in the hospitality industry.

Dan has an illustrious career in the industry, with five cafes across Melbourne and a budding roastery by the name of 'Born and Raised'. DANIEL SEYOUM! - The Untold Story of Ethiopian Coffee
Hello lovely people. Today we are joined by the coffee powerhouse, Daniel Seyoum.
Daniel’s family have been growing coffee in Ethiopia for over 45 years, with Daniel himself running farms using traditional agricultural practices. He now heads two successful cafes in Melbourne. Both Ageyo and Little Ezida have grown wildly successful, with a focus on ethical and direct trade.
In this conversation, Daniel provides a unique and valued perspective on coffee farming and its history; on everything from goats discovering caffeine to the health risks associated with farming malpractice.
We are so grateful to Daniel for sharing his story regarding the internal conflict in Ethiopia and its impact on not only the coffee industry but his family and the wider community.
