Polestar has announced that it will adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS), joining other automakers like Ford, General Motors, Rivian Automotive, and Volvo Cars. This agreement will give Polestar drivers in the United States and Canada access to Tesla's Supercharger network. Volkswagen is currently in discussions with Tesla about potentially adopting Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS). Volkswagen's EV charging network unit, Electrify America, has already established over 850 charging stations in the US and Canada. Electrify America, the second-largest electric vehicle fast-charging network in the US, plans to add Tesla's connector to its charging stations, aiming to adopt Tesla's plug as the industry standard. By 2025, Electrify America aims to incorporate Tesla's connector into both existing and future chargers. Blink Charging, a provider of electric vehicle charging solutions, has announced plans to integrate the North America Charging Standard (NACS) by Tesla into its entire product range. The company aims to make all its charging products NACS compatible by October 2023. According to a study by J.D. Power, Tesla's chargers are more reliable than those of its competitors. Tesla vehicle owners reported the highest satisfaction with public charging, scoring 734 on a 1,000-point scale. Chevrolet has announced that the base trim of the 2024 Silverado EV will start at $50,000. However, the actual MSRP is subject to change, and there will be different price ranges available to cater to buyers' needs. Germany is planning to allocate up to 900 million euros in subsidies for the expansion of electric vehicle charging stations for households and companies. The country aims to have one million charging points by 2030. South Korean battery supplier LG Chem is expanding its main plant in Holland, Michigan to increase its production output of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) from 5 gigawatt hours to 25 gigawatt hours. Tesla's upcoming refreshed Model 3 is rumored to feature CATL's new M3P LFP cells, which are expected to increase the vehicle's range. CATL has become one of Tesla's main battery manufacturers. Tesla is reportedly examining StoreDot's XFC Extreme Fast Charging battery technology. StoreDot is an Israeli startup known for producing EV batteries capable of rapid charging. Suzuki's first electric vehicle for global markets has been spotted in images ahead of its planned launch in 2025. The production car closely resembles the EVX concept unveiled earlier in India. Aston Martin is making changes to its supplier network as it prepares to develop its electric car platform. It has decided to source parts from its shareholder, Geely, in an effort to cut costs and expedite the arrival of its electric vehicles. The EU parliament has approved new legislation aimed at making electric vehicle (EV) batteries more environmentally friendly and efficient. The regulations will impact the design, production, and waste management of all batteries sold in the EU. Toyota has fallen in brand loyalty rankings in the United States, dropping to seventh place in a study by S&P Global Mobility. This demotion was partly due to customers defecting to Tesla. The UK is set to gain its first lithium mine in Cornwall through a joint venture between British startup British Lithium and French mining company Imerys. The mine aims to produce enough lithium for 500,000 electric cars per year by the end of the decade. Domino's Pizza is set to have the largest electric pizza delivery fleet in the US, with over 1,100 custom-branded Chevy Bolt electric vehicles planned for use by the end of the year. The electric vehicles provide various benefits including longer battery life, zero emissions, advanced safety features, and lower maintenance costs.

The first sellable Chevy Blazer EV has been produced at General Motors' Ramos Arizpe plant, marking the upcoming launch of the electric SUV this summer. GM expects a successful year with the production increase of its Ultium-based electric models, including the Blazer EV. Chinese electric car brand Zeekr has started pre-sales for its Zeekr 001 and Zeekr X models in the Netherlands and Sweden, marking its entry into the European market. Deliveries in the Netherlands and Sweden will begin in autumn 2023, and Zeekr plans to expand into other countries in Western Europe by 2026. GM Energy has announced the details and specifications for its upcoming Ultium Home products, which aim to provide residential customers with greater energy independence and resiliency. The products include bundle options for customers to choose from based on their energy needs and budget. Mack Trucks has announced that their MD Electric medium-duty electric vehicle is now available for order. Tesla has started placing ads on Google after CEO Elon Musk expressed a willingness to try advertising during a shareholder meeting. The ads promote Tesla's electric vehicles, solar panels, and Supercharger network. Finnish company Kempower has announced plans to open a second factory in Lahti, Finland. The new facility will double Kempower's production capacity in Europe and will include research and development space. The facility will produce converters and batteries for various industries, including electric buses. BMW has started construction on a $700 million high-voltage battery assembly plant in Woodruff, South Carolina. The plant is being built to meet the demand for electric vehicle batteries and to compete with other automakers. The Biden administration plans to allocate $2 billion in grants to support the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States. The funding will be used to accelerate domestic EV manufacturing and revive struggling plants. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm is traveling across the South to promote clean energy products and tax credits made available through legislation enacted during President Biden’s term. The tour aims to highlight the administration’s achievements and draw attention to Republican lawmakers who opposed the legislation. The Chevy Silverado EV work truck features an offboard power system that allows users to utilize up to 10.2 kW of power flow and access the truck's 200+ kWh battery pack. BMW plans for the i5 to be instrumental in their electric transition and expects 15% of total sales to come from EVs this year.  Ford is developing an electric three-row SUV likened to a 'personal bullet train', with a projected release in 2025. The Explorer-sized EV, which could boost the company's sales, promises an impressive 350-mile range.  Tata Motors, the owner of Jaguar Land Rover, is reportedly choosing the UK over Spain to build a large electric car battery plant. The plant, which could create up to 9,000 jobs, signifies a significant investment in the UK's automotive sector.  Tesla is strongly considering building its next gigafactory in England, potentially bringing a large number of jobs to the region. This surge was supported by the Chinese government's backing for domestic EV growth.  Lucid Motors announces pricing for two more Lucid Air variants in Europe, the Air Pure AWD and Air Touring, set to be delivered in Q3 and Q4 2023 respectively. Both models use a smaller 92 kWh battery pack, providing up to 725 kilometers of range.  Rolls-Royce plans to start production of its Spectre electric coupé in September, with an estimated price of over half a million euros. Orders placed today are expected to be delivered in 2025, showing high demand for the company's first all-electric car.  Gotion unveils its Astroinno L600 LMFP battery cell and pack, a cobalt-free solution that achieves a 1000km range. A customer has already received and registered one of these German Model Y RWDs. This model is equipped with a new BYD battery that, upon quick testing, has reported positive results. The charge rate hit 172kW at 25% state of charge and stayed there until 50%.  Geely has started shipping its new Zeekr 001 model, powered by the latest CATL "Kirin" battery. This model, boasting the longest range among electric vehicles in the Chinese market, 641 miles (1,032 km) with a 140 kWh battery.  XPeng has announced that the first production model of its G6 SUV has begun leaving the manufacturing line. The G6 is scheduled to be formally launched and delivered by the end of the second quarter, with a price range of 200,000 to 300,000 yuan ($28,450).  XPeng sees the Tesla Model Y as the primary rival for the G6.  SAIC has cut the prices of several of its small electric vehicles (EVs) to promote their use in rural areas. The firm announced price reductions of up to 13,000 yuan ($1,850) for models in its Hongguang Mini EV family (15.7%).  In April, the sale of fully electric vehicles in China reached 444,000 units, constituting 25% of the country's auto market. An additional 165,000 plug-in hybrid vehicles sold during the month pushed the overall market share of plug-in or new energy vehicles to 34%.  In Shanghai participation in the May auction for gasoline vehicle licence plates fell to a 99-month low. Shanghai began giving free licence plates to buyers of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) in 2022. From January 2023, PHEVs were treated like conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, and owners will need to purchase licence plates via competitive bidding.  BMW has announced plans to start assembling its electrified Neue Klasse vehicles and their batteries in China from 2026. These next-generation electric vehicles (EVs) will be produced by BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA).  Swiss company Holcim will buy 1,000 Volvo electric trucks. The first 130 trucks are set to be delivered in 2023 and 2024. By replacing 1,000 current Volvo FH diesel trucks with 1,000 Volvo FH Electric trucks using green power on a typical route, up to 50,000 tonnes of CO2 could be saved annually.  VinFast has confirmed the arrival of its second shipment of VF8 EVs, including 1,879 longer-range vehicles, following an initial dispatch of 999 VF 8 City Edition SUVs in December 2022. VF8 Eco and VF8 Plus trim levels are EPA-rated at 264 miles and 243 miles, respectively.  Lotus is preparing to launch the Type 133, positioned as a rival to the Porsche Taycan. Spy photos suggest the Type 133 will feature a modern style, a sloping roof, and design elements drawn from the Evija and Eletre. The 112kWh battery pack from the Eletre will reportedly be included in the Type 133, potentially providing the sleek saloon with a range of over 400 miles.  Northvolt has completed the construction of its energy storage system (ESS) manufacturing plant in Poland and anticipates launching production by the end of 2023.  Tensions are escalating between Washington and Brussels over a plan to make European manufacturers eligible for U.S. electric car tax incentives. This deadlock is expected to prolong negotiations beyond the summer, potentially disadvantaging European manufacturers in the American auto market.

Polestar introduced its latest electric performance SUV, the Polestar 4. The vehicle boasts a 0-100 km/h speed of 3.8 seconds and 544 hp of power. Both dual- and single-motor versions will be available, with long-range versions featuring a 102 kWh battery. The Polestar 4 is expected to launch in China in November 2023, with a global release planned for 2024. Prices start at around €60,000. Polestar plans to start production in South Carolina in 2024 for the U.S. and European markets. The company aims to sell 80,000 cars this year, focusing on delivering more Polestar 2 hatchbacks. Tesla has reduced prices for its Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles, with the Model 3 Standard Range RWD now priced below $40,000. The price cuts come as demand has decreased and interest rates have made car purchases more difficult. A study by iSeeCars found that Tesla has the most car recalls, with Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X making up four of the top five most recalled models. Brands with the least recalls include Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota. Following changes to California's net metering rules, Tesla announced that its Powerwall will help homeowners save up to 92% on their electricity bills. The intelligent and customizable software in Powerwall will optimize energy use for maximum savings. Gogoro partnered with Enel X to create virtual power plants (VPPs) from its battery swapping stations in Taiwan. These VPPs interact with Taiwan's power grid to supply energy when demand exceeds supply. New York State is providing $8.3 million in funding for 255 charging stations across 70 municipalities. The funding comes from the Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Grant Program. A poll revealed that 40% of U.S. adults are considering switching to electric vehicles (EVs) for their next purchase. However, concerns about high prices and a lack of charging infrastructure remain. BYD's premium brand, Yangwang, began pre-sales of its first model, the U8, at the Shanghai auto show for $160,000. The U8 has over 1,100 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. RAW Charging announced a deal with the National Trust to install charging stations at various heritage sites in the UK over the next three years, in an estimated £12m rollout. Scania and Northvolt have created an electric battery with a lifetime of 1.5 million kilometers, equivalent to a truck. The battery is produced at the Northvolt Ett gigafactory. Rolls-Royce launched its first all-electric car, the Shining, in China. The vehicle has a top speed of 250 km/h, a range of 585 km, and is priced at $8.

Tesla expects to lose the full $7,500 federal tax credit on its cheapest electric car, the Model 3 Standard Range, due to its battery cells being sourced from China, which would make it ineligible for the new tax credit program. Volkswagen is set to reveal its ID 2 electric car on 15 March. The car will be based on the MEB-Plus platform, with new battery cells and 200kW charging speeds, and may be named ID Golf. Ford is set to launch an all-new electric vehicle for the European market on March 21, which will be one of seven new models to be released in Europe by next year. The first EV to be manufactured at the Cologne factory will be a medium-sized, five-seat crossover. BMW is investing up to £600m in its Mini plant at Cowley, near Oxford, to prepare the plant for the production of electric models. The Neue Klasse programme is also underway, which incorporates connected vehicles, autonomous driving, and AI assistant features. BMW increased its research and development spending in 2022 to 6.6 Billion Euros to launch its next-generation electric line-up, which will include a new 3 Series equivalent and a next-generation 5 Series electric model. The Neue Klasse models will also offer sixth-generation battery technology with up to 30% more range and charging speed. Alfa Romeo has announced plans to launch a new all-electric SUV flagship in the second half of this decade. The new model is expected to use the STLA Large architecture from Alfa Romeo's parent company Stellantis. Nissan is aiming to reduce the cost of production of electric and hybrid components by 30% by 2026 and make them the same price as their pure-combustion counterparts. Nissan currently sells two electric cars and e-Power hybrids, and is aiming for price parity between them and their combustion equivalents by around 2026. NIO is releasing an estate version of their ET5 sedan in Europe, with deliveries in China set to start in July 2023. The design of the ET5 Shooting Brake looks similar to the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. Renault Trucks achieved a market share of 24.2% in the medium- and heavy-duty electric truck segment in Europe in 2022, selling 379 units of the E-Tech D and E-Tech D Wide models. BYD is reportedly planning to invest over $20 billion in their commercial vehicle division over the next five years to develop, produce, and launch battery-electric commercial vehicles in multiple markets. The 2024 Hyundai Kona has been unveiled with significant improvements in terms of size, luxury, and features. The car comes with a "seamless horizon" front light bar, a dual 12.3-inch display screen, and physical climate controls. The electric version has also been updated with more power, faster charging, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology. For Europe, the Kona Electric has two battery packs, Standard and Long Range, with estimated ranges of 212 miles and 304 miles, respectively. In the US, the EPA range for the big battery is 260 miles. The Kona will be released in the US in the third quarter of the year. The BYD ATTO 3 is a new electric family SUV from BYD that utilizes the company's e-Platform 3.0 and is equipped with the distinctive lithium-iron phosphate Blade Battery. The car has a decent official range of 261 miles (420 km) and efficiency of 3.98 miles per kWh. The car offers a 15.6-inch touchscreen that can rotate from landscape to portrait, and the infotainment system is generally intuitive, with key functions easily accessible. The car features a heat pump as standard, and the base-level Active models come with heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a vehicle-to-load output. The car is priced competitively for its class, starting from £36,490, rising to £38,990 for the top-spec Design model. Tesla has started delivering vehicles with hardware 4.0 installed, but certain features are not available yet. The software for HW4 is still a work in progress, and Tesla is anticipating Model 3 and Model Y vehicles to follow with HW4 deliveries at some point this year. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said that HW4 will not be available for retrofits due to it being difficult to pop into HW3 vehicles, and it will not be necessary as long as HW3 remains safer than a human. Tesla Model Y became the second best-selling car in Germany in February, with 6,442 units sold. This was made possible by the Giga Berlin factory, which can quickly manufacture and deliver vehicles to customers. It is expected that Tesla Model Y will become the best-selling car in the world in 2023. Tesla is set to become the first vehicle manufacturer to eliminate 12-volt electrical components, replacing them with 48-volt systems. Other carmakers are also planning for 48-volt vehicles, and Tesla's VP of hardware engineering believes it is the future of low voltage design. The MG 4 is an all-electric hatchback that is set to launch in Australia this weekend. The car has already been tested on Australian roads and has been given a five-star safety rating by EuroNCAP. It has won multiple awards in the UK and is offered in two variants, the SE and the Trophy. It has a range of 435 km with 11 kW AC and 135 kW DC charging. It is expected to have a starting price of under $42,000. Mini is moving towards full electrification, with a redesigned Mini Cooper hatchback offered in both combustion and electric forms, aiming for a 50% electric sales split by mid-2025. Volvo's EX90 features a LiDAR bump for autonomous driving, but the software is still in development, and the EV costs around $80,000. Electric vehicles continued to dominate auto sales in Sweden in February, with BEVs having a 54.0% share, compared to PHEVs, which are slowing down in the country. The LEVC's electric TX black cab now represents over 40% of all black cabs in London, with over 6,000 electric TX taxis in operation, leading to a transition away from fossil fuel. Lamborghini has announced a new hybridized V-12 powertrain with up to 1001 horsepower, featuring three electric motors and a 3.8 kWh battery pack. Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed mixed feelings about the success of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL), the world's largest battery maker, as it looks to raise at least $5 billion by listing global depositary receipts in Switzerland. SWARCO Smart Charging is launching PoGo, a nationwide ultra-rapid EV charging network with over 2,000 charging stations over the next four years, providing EV drivers with 24/7 customer support. Volkswagen Group revised its EV sales target for Europe to 80% by 2030, up from the 70% originally stated, launching a refreshed version of its ID.3, unveiling an ID.7 near-production model, and introducing an all-electric Tiguan SUV for 2025. Origin Energy is launching a subscription car service and offering some customers free power, launching an electricity plan for EV drivers, aiming to help Australians access, power, and pay for EVs.

Volvo reported that their Recharge lineup of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars accounted for 40% of all Volvo cars sold globally in February, with fully electric car sales increasing by 187% and representing 18.7% of total sales. Volkswagen's Scout brand is set to launch an electric 4x4 vehicle in 2026, featuring SUV and pick-up variants, and will be built in South Carolina with a projected production of up to 200,000 per year. Tesla has reduced the prices of their Model S sedan and Model X SUV in the U.S. for the second time this year, with the Model S dropping from $104,990 to $89,990 and the Model X falling from $120,990 to $99,990. Tesla plans to build a Gigafactory Mexico near Monterrey, Nuevo León, with the factory expected to span 4,200 acres, cost around $5 billion to build, and employ 7,000 people directly. Tesla is planning to open a lithium manufacturing plant near Corpus Christi, Texas later this year, with the plant expected to have an annual capacity of 50 gigawatt hours and to create job opportunities in the area. The Texas Department of Transportation is creating EV-friendly lanes on the US 75 highway to promote the usage of electric vehicles for transportation, as part of an electric vehicle infrastructure plan for the state of Texas. Porsche and Ferrari are pushing for an exception to the EU's proposed 2035 ban on new internal combustion engine vehicles for synthetic e-fuels, which are essentially renewable electricity converted into a combustible liquid, and can allow for the continuation of lightweight sports cars with roaring engines. The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is set to become the fastest and most powerful street-legal 911 with a mild-hybrid system. It is expected to debut in 2026, featuring an electric motor and battery pack sourced from Porsche's Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid. Honda plans to launch 30 EVs globally by 2030, including the Prologue SUV in 2024, affordable EVs in 2027, and two sports cars. The company is also developing a new EV brand, Afeela, with Sony and is considering establishing its charging network. The UK car industry is expecting almost 500,000 new hybrid and electric cars on the roads this year due to increasing production and sales, including a 26.2% YoY increase in new registrations in February. SMMT is calling for the budget to address affordability and access to charging for electric vehicles. BP Pulse opened its largest EV charging hub in the UK, featuring ten 300 kW chargers with a total capacity of 3 MW, capable of charging up to 20 vehicles simultaneously. BP is investing up to £18 billion in EV charging infrastructure and is planning to have "hundreds of additional charging hubs" in the UK by 2030. Hamburg has opened Europe's largest EV-sharing hub, featuring 120 parking spots with charging points. The HVV Switch system has 200 charging points distributed across 16 locations, with plans to expand charging infrastructure to 20 more locations by the end of 2023. Foxconn is aggressively pursuing a 5% share of the global EV market by 2025, offering access to U.S. federal incentives and its Mobility in Harmony EV platform. It has acquired the former GM plant in Ohio and has hired a former Nissan executive to lead its efforts. According to Goldman Sachs, the market for EV outsourcing is expected to reach $36 billion in 2025 and $144 billion in 2030. Foxconn is looking to expand its operations in India by seeking partners to cooperate in areas such as chips and electric vehicles. It has already established factories in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and announced a major investment in Karnataka expected to generate over one lakh jobs. Redwood Materials has been awarded a $2 billion loan from the Department of Energy's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Loan Program. The funding will support the construction and expansion of Redwood's new battery materials campus and produce ultra-thin battery-grade copper foil and cathode active materials from new and recycled feedstocks. NIO has opened its first battery swap station in Denmark, bringing its total stations in Europe to twelve, and is considering licensing its battery swap technology to other countries. The station is centrally located, providing access to nearly 390,000 chargers through third-party agreements. Xiaomi is set to begin mass production of its first electric cars in early 2024, after investing over $434 million in research and development. The company has partnered with Super Soco to produce electric motorcycles. Hyundai Mobis has developed Electric Leveling Control technology that can automatically adjust the height of an EV by up to 6 cm depending on the driving environment. The technology uses sensors to determine the optimal ride height and adjusts using an electric hydraulic pump to control it from all four wheels. Oslo has become the "EV capital of the world," with 32% of the city's car fleet being electric. The city has implemented policies to encourage EV adoption, such as free parking and passing through toll roads, as well as making the benefits of EVs more visible to drivers. The city is also aiming to reduce private car use by 20% by 2025 and expand public transportation and public bank of battery containers.

France's plugin electric vehicle (EV) market share reached 23.8% in February, with full electrics driving the growth, while traditional combustion-only powertrains declined to 49%. The Dacia Spring remains the best-selling full electric, followed by Tesla's Model Y and Peugeot e208. Mazda North American Operations reported its best-ever February sales in the US, while the newly introduced Mazda MX-30 electric vehicle (EV) is not selling well in the US with only two sales in February. A minority German political party, the Free Democratic Party (FDP), is attempting to block the EU regulation to ban internal combustion light vehicles by 2035. The FDP wants biofuel-powered vehicles to be exempt, hoping to support the German car industry, but the EU regulation is necessary to ensure the transition to fully electric vehicles. General Motors (GM) has announced its partnership with Samsung SDI to build a joint venture plant in Michigan, USA, marking the company's second partnership with an automaker in North America. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 50 GWh. Li Auto is building an 800 V high-voltage supercharging station in China, indicating preparations for a transition to pure electric vehicles. The company plans to accumulate 3,000 supercharging stations by 2025. Tesla has reduced the price of new inventory Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in Europe by 1.5% to 7%, with savings varying across different countries. This likely comes as Tesla looks to increase its market share in the competitive European market, following similar strategies it has implemented in China. Tesla will start selling the Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit for the Model S Plaid, enabling the sporty sedan to reach its advertised top speed of 200 mph. The kit will cost $20,000 and is expected to be released in limited quantities. Tesla is recalling 3,470 Model Y cars due to an issue with seat bolts that could affect the seat belt system in a collision. Unlike previous recalls that could be resolved via over-the-air software updates, this recall requires a physical fix. Our Next Energy has been selected by BHE Renewables to provide energy storage units to a solar-powered manufacturing hub in West Virginia worth $500 million. The EV battery startup will also build a factory on the site to assemble more battery storage systems. EverCharge and PassKey are collaborating to develop a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to supplement EverCharge’s EV charging stations. The BESS will be used to consolidate power during off-peak hours and deploy the energy via EV charging stations during periods of high demand. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology, which is prevalent in China, is gaining ground in the US electric vehicle market as manufacturers look to embrace its cheaper cost and safety, despite holding less energy per pound than nickel-rich batteries. Our Next Energy will begin producing LFP batteries in Michigan this month, expanding next year after opening a new $1.6bn plant, and by 2027, it intends to supply enough LFP batteries for 200,000 EVs. Incoming Toyota CEO Koji Sato is calling for big changes in the way Toyota does business after the company acknowledged that Tesla has leapfrogged them in battery-powered cars, inspiring Toyota to regroup and find better solutions. Toyota is already working on a new EV platform to go into production in 2026. Greenpeace has lodged a complaint with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) accusing Toyota Australia of greenwashing, claiming the car manufacturer's claims about its environmental credentials are misleading. The complaint comes after an ACCC review found that 57% of 247 Australian companies reviewed had made "concerning" claims about their environmental credentials. Xcel Energy's plan to install approximately 730 EV fast chargers in Minnesota, which would make it the largest utility-owned charging system in the country, has sparked opposition from various stakeholders, including the gas station and EV charging industries, the Minnesota Department of Commerce, and consumers. While Xcel hopes to jump-start the slow EV market in Minnesota, critics argue that Xcel's market power as a monopoly utility would crowd out private investment, ultimately slowing EV growth. Over two-thirds of planned lithium-ion battery production in Europe is at risk of being delayed, scaled down or cancelled, due to American subsidies and slow permitting processes, warns a report by Transport & Environment. Without EU-wide financial support to scale up battery production, Europe will not be able to satisfy its battery demand in 2030 and will need to import from foreign rivals. Electric vehicle charging infrastructure is vulnerable to cyberattacks, according to cybersecurity experts. There are concerns that the rush to create a comprehensive charging infrastructure could come at the expense of cybersecurity.

The company will launch its flagship electric sedan, the Lucid Air, in Norway in the coming months and plans to open showrooms in Oslo and Bergen later this year.  Ford is adding a "burnout mode" to its electric cars, allowing the vehicles to spin their wheels without moving. The feature will be available on all of Ford's electric vehicles, including the Mustang Mach-E GT, and is sure to appeal to car enthusiasts.  Chinese automaker Geely's subsidiary, Lynk & Co, has launched its first electric vehicle, the Zero Concept, at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show. The EV has a range of up to 435 miles, cutting-edge technology, and is aimed at urban, younger drivers, with a subscription service that includes insurance and maintenance.  Toyota has announced that the BZ3, its first electric vehicle co-developed with BYD, has rolled off the production line. The compact SUV will have a range of around 250 miles, advanced driver assistance systems, and will be launched in China first.  Lamborghini is reportedly set to introduce its first-ever plug-in hybrid vehicle, the 2024 Lamborghini Urus Plug-in Hybrid. The car is expected to offer an electric driving range of about 30 miles, an 800-hp power output, and will be built on the same platform as the current Urus model.  Volvo has delivered 20 electric trucks to DFDS in Gothenburg to be used for distribution and delivery services. DFDS aims to transition to electric trucks to reduce its carbon footprint and improve air quality in urban areas.  Colorado has released its Electric Vehicle (EV) Plan to accelerate EV adoption with a goal of installing 500,000 charging ports by 2030, increasing EV availability through incentives, and addressing equity concerns. The plan takes a comprehensive approach to expanding EV infrastructure, promoting consumer awareness and education, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  Tesla is among several companies reviewing their investments in Europe to comply with the IRA announced by President Biden, which aims to reduce electronic waste. The company is committed to environmental sustainability and actively seeking ways to comply with the IRA, including reviewing its Gigafactory in Berlin.  Turkey has imposed a 40% additional tariff on electric vehicle imports from China starting from March 2023 to boost local production and employment. This decision aligns with Turkey's goal to reduce its reliance on foreign imports and increase domestic production while presenting opportunities for other countries to expand their electric vehicle exports to Turkey.  California's Independent System Operator (CAISO) has raised concerns over whether the state's power grid can manage the surge in electric vehicles (EVs). A 15-fold increase in EVs could result in a 25% increase in electricity demand in California by 2045, but the report suggests that the challenges can be mitigated with proper planning, investment in renewable energy, and implementation of programs to incentivize charging during off-peak hours.  Li Auto's CEO, Li Xiang, predicts that the price of lithium carbonate will drop by up to 40% in the next year due to an increase in production capacity and supply chain improvements, which will benefit the electric vehicle industry. This decrease in prices will make electric vehicles more accessible to consumers and lead to lower costs for manufacturers.  Automakers such as Volkswagen and General Motors are investing in and partnering with mining startups and junior mining companies to secure a steady supply of minerals needed for EV batteries. However, these partnerships present challenges, including lack of experience and infrastructure for large-scale mining operations, and navigating the complexities of the mining industry.

You can be like them by clicking here.  Tesla has started deploying its Supercharger V4, an upgrade to its DC fast-charging stations, with a station spotted under construction in the Netherlands featuring much larger stalls and potentially higher charge rates. The new Supercharger V4 also offers a longer cable, a crucial upgrade for accommodating non-Tesla electric vehicles that have different charge port locations.  Germany's electric vehicle market share has risen to 15.7%, with over one million electric cars now registered. Despite a decline in new plug-in hybrid registrations, the number of electric cars on German roads increased by 63.8% compared to the previous year.  Norway's plugin electric vehicle market continues to expand, with a 90.1% share of all new auto sales in February 2023, driven by the growth of full electric vehicles (BEVs) such as the Tesla Model Y.  Electric vehicle sales reached a record high in Australia in February, with a 6.8% share of new car sales, according to data compiled by vFacts on behalf of the Federated Chamber of Automotive Industries. Tesla dominated the market, accounting for 60% of electric vehicle sales in the month.  Tesla sold 74,402 China-made electric vehicles in February 2023, an increase from the previous year's 4,630 cars. The Model Y was the most popular vehicle, with 39,579 units sold, followed by the Model 3 with 33,120 units sold.  Chinese automaker BYD has reported a 119% increase in sales of its new energy vehicles (NEVs) in 2022, selling a total of 589,577 units, due to its continued investment in R&D, partnerships with major tech companies and expansion into global markets. BYD's success in the NEV market is attributed to its commitment to sustainability and expansion into new markets, as demand for environmentally friendly vehicles continues to grow.  Volkswagen Group has announced plans to build a $2 billion assembly plant in South Carolina to manufacture battery-electric pickups and SUVs for its nascent Scout Motors brand. The plant will bring an estimated 4,000 jobs and have an annual capacity of over 200,000.  Rivian will release a new variant of its R1S electric SUV, the 2023 R1S with the Max Pack battery and dual-motor AWD powertrain, with an expected driving range of up to 390 miles and an acceleration time of 3.5 seconds from zero to 60 mph. The upcoming R1S will also be fitted with Rivian's new in-house-designed Enduro drive unit.  Ford is set to triple the production of its electric F-150 Lightning this year, after fixing a battery issue that caused production to pause.  US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited the BlueOval SK Battery Park in Glendale, Kentucky, to highlight the importance of electric vehicle manufacturing jobs in the region. The battery park, a joint venture between Ford Motor and SK On, is expected to create 5,000 new jobs and will be the largest battery park in the world.  Mercedes-Benz has launched a battery recycling program with two Chinese companies, CATL and GEM, to promote sustainable production and disposal of EV batteries. The program will be carried out in China, where CATL and GEM will recycle Mercedes-Benz EV batteries and extract raw materials such as cobalt, nickel, and lithium for reuse in new batteries. The companies aim to create a closed-loop system that will enable up to 95% of the raw materials from used batteries to be recovered and reused.  According to a report by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States are being driven farther per trip than ever before, nearly equaling the distance traveled by gasoline-powered vehicles.  Range anxiety is a relic of the past and no longer relevant to today's EVs. Modern EVs offer ranges of 200-300 miles or more on a single charge, which is more than enough for the vast majority of daily driving needs.

Former Ford CEO Mark Fields believes that Tesla is one generation ahead of its competitors in the EV race, despite its stock dropping around 7% after its investor day presentation failed to confirm any new car models. Tesla's keys to winning the EV race come down to product appeal, software or user interface, controlling cost, and consistent execution. Tesla has started installing its fourth-generation Supercharger posts in Europe with longer cables to reach charging ports of different EV models, according to Tesla's Head of Global Charging Infrastructure, Rebecca Tinucci. The company's charging network is now the world's largest global fast-charging network with over 40,000 Superchargers in 46 countries. Tesla has opened up its Supercharger network in North America to non-Tesla EVs at 8 Supercharger locations in New York and 2 in California, fitted with the new "magic dock" interface. Ccharging costs vary by location but Tesla offers a membership for reduced charging rates. Tesla has been granted over $330 million in tax incentives by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development board for the company’s new electric semi truck and battery manufacturing facility, as part of an expansion of Tesla’s Nevada Gigafactory. In return, Tesla has committed to investing $3.6 billion over 10 years and hiring 3,000 new employees with an average wage of $33.49 per hour. Ford has announced plans to resume production of its electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck on March 13 after a battery issue caused one of the vehicles to catch fire. The resumption of production will be watched closely as Ford seeks to compete in the growing electric vehicle market. Polestar, the EV brand owned by Volvo Cars and Geely, announced an 84% increase in revenue for 2022 and halved its net loss to $466m. Vietnamese automaker VinFast has delivered the first batch of 45 vehicles to US customers amid doubts about the company's corporate health. CleanTechnica confirms VinFast's assembly process is on track and the company has delivered over 4,278 EVs to local customers in Vietnam. The vehicle is expected to launch in China before mid-year and in the U.S. for the 2024 model year. LG Energy Solutions and Honda have broken ground on a new joint venture battery plant in Ohio, representing a $4.4 billion investment and the creation of 2,200 new jobs. The plant will produce lithium-ion batteries to power Honda vehicles for North American consumers, with the goal of shifting to 100% EV sales by 2040. Aston Martin is set to reveal a future model lineup that includes a new full-electric car at a capital markets day for investors this summer, according to Chairman Lawrence Stroll. The luxury carmaker is currently overhauling its three core front-engine sports cars, the DB11, the Vantage, and the DBS, with the first to be delivered to customers this autumn. First Bus has ordered an additional 117 electric buses from Wrightbus to operate in four UK cities, with additional funding from the British government. This order, along with the previous one, will enable First Bus to operate over 600 electric buses by March 2024 and supports the company's goal of being CO2 neutral by 2035 Redwood Materials has completed its first year of recycling electric vehicle (EV) batteries and has recovered over 95% of lithium, cobalt, nickel, copper, and other metals from 1,268 battery packs weighing over 500,000 lbs. The company says the cost driver is logistics, which will reduce over time as end-of-life pack volumes increase. Daimler Buses is transforming its Mannheim plant into a center for electric city buses, and it will invest around €150m in both its German plants by the end of the decade. The company plans to offer CO2-neutral vehicles in all segments in Europe and Latin America by 2030, and it aims to sell only fully electric vehicles for city buses in Europe. Renewable energy sources in the UK generated more electricity than gas during the winter season, producing enough energy to power every home in the UK. The progress was made through the use of wind, hydro, and solar energy, and is in line with the UK government's goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. A new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) shows that while global carbon dioxide emissions have increased, the growth has been tempered by a surge in renewable energy. The growth in renewable energy is driven by an increase in wind and solar installations and more supportive government policies, and the IEA emphasizes the need to accelerate the transition to renewable energy to achieve a sustainable future. A new study from the European Heat Pump Association and the European Heat Pump Network shows that heat pumps are significantly cheaper than green hydrogen for producing heat in Europe. Decarbonizing heating is a critical part of the EU's goal to reach net-zero by 2050, and the study highlights the role of heat pumps in achieving it.

TESLA'S ROADMAP TO A RENEWABLE ENERGY ECONOMY: INSIGHTS FROM INVESTOR DAY Tesla's recent Investor Day and Battery Day presentations highlighted the company's commitment to transitioning the world to a sustainable energy economy. The expanded Master Plan 3 aims to create a renewable energy economy using storage, renewable power, and manufacturing expense. Tesla estimates that achieving this goal will require 240 TWh of storage, 30 TW of new solar/wind, and about $10T. Elon Musk outlined an ambitious plan for global decarbonization, emphasizing the role that batteries and electric vehicles can play in making this transition possible. Tesla's next-generation vehicles and radically reinvented assembly process were also showcased, positioning the company well in the race for electrification. In terms of reducing the cost of producing electric vehicles, Tesla plans to produce its own batteries and reduce the cost by as much as 56 percent. The company's new battery design, which incorporates a tabless electrode, will increase energy density by up to 5 times and reduce the cost of manufacturing by up to 14 percent. Tesla is also working on electrifying high-temperature industrial processes and reducing the total cost of ownership of electric vehicles. The company aims to reduce the cost of its next-gen vehicle by 50 percent compared to the Model 3. Overall, Tesla's presentations demonstrated the company's commitment to driving innovation and cost reduction to make sustainable energy and electric vehicles more accessible to consumers. The focus on reducing costs throughout the supply chain and improving end-use efficiency will enable exponential growth in volume, making a sustainable energy economy within reach.

Polestar 5 has been spied on the road with provisional lights, giving a glimpse of its sleek. Set to hit the market in 2023, the Polestar 5 will be a strong contender in the luxury electric vehicle market and a direct competitor to the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air. Volkswagen has unveiled the facelifted version of its popular ID.3 featuring subtle updates and improved software, assist systems, and other tweaks that enhance both its exterior and interior. The car retains the same electric drive motor, battery options, and range ratings, and is set to ship to customers in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2023. It adds “functions on demand,” which can be added later. The starting price for the ID.3 is now €43,995, significantly higher than the previous price of €30,000. Volkswagen-owned software company CARIAD has launched a new application store for cars, in partnership with HARMAN. Audi is the first brand to integrate the store in selected models as of July 2023, offering customers a range of exclusive apps from Volkswagen Group brands, as well as third-party content. Kia will unveil its new electric SUV, the EV9, in mid-March, which will be the company's flagship SUV built on the E-GMP platform, offering impressive performance and range, and equipped with advanced technology and driver assistance systems. The EV9 is expected to have a range of around 300 miles on a single charge and compete with the Tesla Model X and the Audi e-tron. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is considering a new interpretation that would require all electric and hybrid passenger vehicles made since 1997 to have pedestrian warnings. The reinterpretation could result in a massive recall, forcing manufacturers to retrofit millions of affected vehicles Jaguar Land Rover owner, Tata Motors, has demanded over £500m of government aid for a new battery factory in the UK, with the Indian group reportedly close to choosing between Spain and the southwest of England. UK car production dwindled last year to its lowest level since the 1950s, following the closure of Honda’s plant in Swindon. In Australia, Victoria's Zero and Low-Emission Vehicle road user charge has resulted in the registration of 243 electric vehicles being cancelled, with critics labelling it "the world's worst EV policy." The highly unpopular tax is facing a High Court challenge, with plaintiffs arguing that it is unconstitutional. Italian sporting brand Abarth has unveiled its first-ever electric vehicle, the Abarth 500e, which features a more responsive motor and improved handling over its petrol counterpart. Priced from £38,695 in the UK, deliveries of the hot hatch will begin in June 2023. In the UK, Luxury vehicle division Genesis, owned by Hyundai Motor Group, is seeking partners with automotive experience and customer service experience to expand its presence in the UK and operate around 15 new retail centres next year, following its growth curve and popularity in particular of its electrified models, including the Genesis GV60 EV. Genesis will reward its partners based on their customer satisfaction scores alone. In China, Dongfeng Motor Group has partnered with Renault to develop sodium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) in China, which offer a lower cost and safer alternative to commonly used lithium-ion batteries. Renault and Dongfeng plan to begin mass production of EVs equipped with sodium-ion batteries in the near future to reduce their dependence on the supply chain for rare earth metals used in lithium-ion batteries. Mini has announced the production of an electric version of the Countryman crossover in 2023, with a range of approximately 300 miles per charge, contributing to BMW's goal of 50% electrified global sales by 2030.

Tesla has finally opened its Superchargers to non-Tesla EV owners in the US. Non-Tesla EV owners can access the Superchargers using the Tesla app. Check the map to see the latest open sites. Social media posts have shown the Magic Dock connector in use. Tesla has announced the price for their CCS adapter retrofit, which allows Tesla owners to use public charging stations that use the CCS standard for $500. Tesla is planning to build a new factory in Monterrey, Mexico, representing an initial investment of $1bn, which could grow to be $10bn over time, and is expected to produce around one million vehicles per year. This comes as electric car demand is set to grow, and as other car manufacturers such as BMW and Ford invest in Mexican factories to reduce costs. Toyota engineers have conducted a teardown study of the Tesla Model Y calling it a "work of art", leading to a new "EV-first" mindset and a wholly reengineered, next-generation platform dedicated to battery electric vehicles arriving in 2026. Toyota is preparing for the EV era with a new leadership team and a focus on incorporating breakthroughs from Tesla while retaining Toyota's focus on safety, quality and reliability. The United States Postal Service (USPS) is purchasing over 9,000 battery-powered delivery vans from Ford Motor Co. as part of a $10 billion plan to electrify its aging fleet and aims to electrify 75% of its service trucks over the next five years, marking a significant shift towards reducing the agency's carbon footprint and improving the sustainability of its operations. Shell has acquired Evpass, Switzerland's largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network, with 3,000 charging points, to expand its charging network and achieve its goal of operating over 500,000 EV charge points globally by 2025. The acquisition will enable Shell to rapidly expand the number of EV charge points offered at its stations and other destinations in Switzerland. Rivian reported a loss of $1.7bn in Q4 2022, with total losses for the year at $6.8bn, despite revenue of $663m and deliveries of 8,054 vehicles in the quarter. The company expects to produce 50,000 vehicles in 2023, with supply chain problems expected to continue but become easier to anticipate. Vietnamese automaker VinFast cuts lease prices by 50% for its electric vehicle range ahead of its official launch to compete with global rivals like Tesla. Smart Cars, a division of Mercedes-Benz, has announced the discontinuation of its all-electric EQ Fortwo model as it shifts its focus towards producing more electric SUVs and crossovers. A new electric logging vehicle is set to be trialed in South Australia's Green Triangle region in an effort to reduce carbon emissions and improve sustainability in the forestry industry. The electric vehicle, which is being developed by Australian company Logset, is powered by lithium-ion batteries and has the capacity to work for a full day on a single charge. SonnenVPP has integrated electric vehicles (EVs) to stabilize the German grid managed by Tennet, allowing greater flexibility in balancing supply and demand, and providing additional frequency regulation services. This integration is part of a larger effort to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the grid. Electric car owners are more satisfied with their vehicles than ever before, according to a J.D. Power study of over 9,000 electric car owners, with range and charging experience as the biggest drivers of satisfaction. In the premium segment Rivian R1T came top of the ranking followed by Model 3, Model Y, Audi e-tron and Polestar  Edmunds has launched a new feature called "Battery Insights" to improve transparency for used EV car shoppers by providing detailed information on battery health, range, and charging history.
