Ep. 91 - Bradford Hansen-Smith - Observations and reflections
Get in touch! We recommend that you go over to our youtube channel and watch this particular episode. This is the 4th and final episode in the series. Brad talks more in-depth about his work and how he took his work to the 3d dimension and beyond.Bradford Hansen-Smith spent the first half of his life as a sculptor; then it changed. Inspired by the work of Buckminster Fuller he took ten years to educate himself in geometry and math seeing that it all goes back to the image we draw of the circle. The next thirty-two years he has been exploring folding circles with people interested. Without any degree, and no certification, he taught folding circles in and out of classrooms, from first grade through college level, working with teachers, presenting internationally a new approach to geometry and mathematics, a new way to do and think about what we do. During that time, he has written seven books and has published papers on folding circles. He calls this approach Wholemovement, folding the circle for information. It is comprehensive through the hand-on experience of folding the circle as unity and observing what is revealed. This is about the transforming changes of order and organization all in one place; nothing is added or taken away. Information is not constructed or put into the circle. Through a principled sequence of folding, observing, and reforming, the directives for the process are inherent to unity in the circle, it is whole. Folding the circle demonstrates spherical unity beyond all other shapes and forms. It is about learning to see what is not seen, attending to what we do, and to use what is revealed to discover what we do not know. This provides any folder with experience to know circles are not what we are told they are, they are so much more: as it is with most information we are given. Design Education Talks Ep. 78 - Martin Salisbury
Design Education Talks Ep. 78 - Martin Salisbury
Get in touch!I studied for five years in total at art school in the 1970s, Graphic Design and Illustration. At Maidstone College of Art my tutors included Greenaway Medal-winning Gerald Rose and, by contrast, Brian Eno. I worked solely as a freelance illustrator for 15-20 years, across most areas of the field while gradually takin on part-time teaching alongside my practice, eventually taking on Course Leader role for BA Illustration.I was always mystified as to why so little attention was given to children's book illustration and decided to design and take through validation the world's first MA Children's Book Illustration programme, which grew rapidly to a cohort of 180 students from around the world. My driving force has been to widen awareness of the importance of illustration (especially authorial illustration) and drawing in the university context and in public perception, as an important academic and cultural fieldhttps://www.cambridgemashow.com/https://www.aru.ac.uk/arts-humanities-education-and-social-sciences/cambridge-school-of-art/research/the-centre-for-childrens-book-studies Thames and Hudson: https://shorturl.at/adjC3Amazon: https://shorturl.at/rBJQVSupport the showSince its inception in 2019, Design Education Talks podcast has served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of insights and ideas within the realm of art and design education. Design Education Talks ep. 66 - Bradford Hansen-Smith
Design Education Talks ep. 66 - Bradford Hansen-Smith
Get in touch!Bradford Hansen-Smith spent the first half of his life as a sculptor; then it changed. His work can be found at;  https://www.wholemovement.com/https:// www.facebook.com/wholemovementSupport the showSince its inception in 2019, Design Education Talks podcast has served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of insights and ideas within the realm of art and design education. Design Education Talks ep. 62 - Bradford Hansen-Smith
Design Education Talks ep. 62 - Bradford Hansen-Smith
Get in touch!NEW YEARS SPECIAL PODCAST WORKSHOP!!!Bradford Hansen-Smith spent the first half of his life as a sculptor; then it changed. His work can be found at;  https://www.wholemovement.com/https:// www.facebook.com/wholemovementSupport the showSince its inception in 2019, Design Education Talks podcast has served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of insights and ideas within the realm of art and design education. Graphic design is a field of expertise that integrates pictures and words, using words as visual expression. Graphic design can help students access content, demonstrate knowledge, and construct meaning using a broader set of tools. To help educators develop and enhance communication skills and deepen core content knowledge and trans-disciplinary understanding within their classroom, Design Instinct Learning has developed a research-based approach, integrating the natural sciences, engineering and graphic design.http://www.designeducator.com/Support the showSince its inception in 2019, Design Education Talks podcast has served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of insights and ideas within the realm of art and design education. That being said I have an original approach towards aesthetics, intuitive skill to unite images and ideas-independently of the will and thus begin an unconscious metaphoric process.I’m sure that you’ve heard of Creative thinking, design thinking, forward thinking, critical thinking, lateral thinking, out of the box thinking, mindful thinking are mostly taught in the higher education arena. These types of thinking approaches share a common concept of applying a structured procedure in thinking. It’s ironic to think that in school they teach you how to write, do math, about history, art, etc. They even tell you what to think about, but they don’t teach you HOW to think. The HOW part doesn’t come automatic. That’s what I teach… The How part.I am a creative director, art director, designer, creative methodologist, theoretician and teach creative thinking. I have developed 7 teaching methods based on my theory using cognitive reframing exercises … Some of which I have implemented at the European Institute of Design in Rome Italy and conducted workshops at other universities with phenomenal success and am now part of the Cambridge Creation Lab.Everybody can think and everybody can think creatively even though they don’t believe they can. Today’s world is extremely challenging with everything going on and requires thinking and rethinking skills. Thinking is the basis of whether you are a valuable asset to a company or not. Companies are desperately looking for the new and original ideas … If a company does not have Support the showSince its inception in 2019, Design Education Talks podcast has served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of insights and ideas within the realm of art and design education.
