In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Peter Breen on his book Dear Mr Putin (August 17, 2022)An epistolary exhortation in monthly installments to Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, that asks: “Are you sure about waging war and brandishing a cross against the woman who promised Russia’s conversion and world peace…?”“If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred; the Holy Father will have much to suffer; and various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world.” From Mary’s prophecy at Fatima in Portugal – July 13, 1917“What I started in Fatima, I will complete in Medjugorje. My heart will triumph.” When Our Lady said these words, all I knew about Fatima was that it was vaguely similar to Medjugorje — the Blessed Mother had appeared to three children there. But after this message, I became curious about it, and the more I learned, the more I began to see deeper connections between Fatima and Medjugorje.” Mirjana Soldo, My Heart Will Triumph, 2016https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/dearmrputin/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Fr. Dennis Billy, C.Ss.R., on his book The Blessings of the Beatitudes (August 11, 2022)This book is about the vision Jesus sets before his hearers of a world ruled by justice and love. The eight beatitudes provide hope to all who listen to and follow the call of the kingdom in their hearts. Without that hope, there would be no place in the human heart for the Spirit of God to dwell, and the kingdom of God would not be able to reach its completion. With that hope, all things are possible–even the unspoken miracle that turns a hateful heart into a tranquil reservoir of divine peace.https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/blessingsofthebeatitudes/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

Episode 190: Fr. Lawrence Tucker, SOLT, on his new song The Father's Lullaby (August 10, 2022)
In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Fr. Lawrence Tucker, SOLT, on his new song The Father's Lullaby (August 10, 2022)In 1984, Cardinal Ratzinger reminded us that The Document of Puebla by John Paul ll pointed out that the preferential option for the poor is two-fold: for the poor... and for the young. Unfortunately, the "for the young" part has been almost universally ignored. The Father's Lullaby was written in response to the anxiety, stress, and spiritual turmoil young people have been suffering for the past three years due to the pandemic. The song, however, is not "age specific" and could be helpful for any person, regardless of their age, who needs a little help settling down before resting.https://brothersister.net/homeBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Deanna Bartalini on her bible study entitled Invite the Holy Spirit into Your Life: Growing in Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control (Our Sunday Visitor, 2018). Episode 187: Kevin Gary on Why Boredom Matters (August 1, 2022)
In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Kevin Gary on his book Why Boredom Matters: Education, Leisure, and the Quest for a Meaningful Life (August 1, 2022)Boredom is an enduring problem. In response, schools often do one or both of the following: first, they endorse what novelist Walker Percy describes as a 'boredom avoidance scheme,' adopting new initiative after new initiative in the hope that boredom can be outrun altogether, or second, they compel students to accept boring situations as an inevitable part of life. Both strategies avoid serious reflection on this universal and troubling state of mind. In this book, Gary argues that schools should educate students on how to engage with boredom productively. Rather than being conditioned to avoid or blame boredom on something or someone else, students need to be given tools for dealing with their boredom. These tools provide them with internal resources that equip them to find worthwhile activities and practices to transform boredom into a more productive state of mind. This book addresses the ways students might gain these skills.https://www.amazon.com/Why-Boredom-Matters-Education-Meaningful/dp/1108813925Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

Episode 186: David Hajduk on Healing the Culture and the Family (July 25, 2022)
In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson talks with David Hajduk on his book Healing the Culture and the Family. It is evident that the culture and the family need healing, but before we can offer a cure, we need to know the spiritual disease ailing us. Pope John Paul II offers a diagnosis in his Letter to Families: the human family is experiencing a “New Manichaeism,” a variant of an ancient heresy, that was released with the philosophical revolution of the 17th century philosopher René Descartes and has reached pandemic levels today. This New Manichaeism has deteriorated our understanding of ourselves, the world, and how we ought to live, and borne radical consequences especially in the areas of bioethics and sexual ethics. John Paul II believed the remedy was an “adequate anthropology” — an “integral vision of man” that includes the body within the structural whole of the person’s life and activity. This is what he offers in his popularly known Theology of the Body. In this book, Dr. David Hajduk details Pope John Paul II’s diagnosis and remedy, explaining how Descartes and the philosophical tradition that followed are at the source of the current crisis in the culture and the family. Dr. Hajduk demonstrates how all the symptoms point to a rejection of the philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas, as well as how they bear a striking resemblance to the heretical ideas that throughout Christian history have typically been labeled as “Manichaean.” Finally, he presents John Paul II’s anthropology, particularly as expressed in his oft-misunderstood Theology of the Body, as a corrective especially suited to lead contemporary men and women to the truth about themselves and God’s plan for human love, as well as marking a return to the perennial philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas, which John Paul II himself declared as the only way to get past the Cartesian watershed.http://aroucapress.com/healing-the-culture-and-the-familyBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Fr. Charlie Bak, MSA, on Part 1 of his Western Civilization (June 28, 2022)A History of Western Civilization from the Three Earliest Civilizations to the Completion of the Reconquista: Western Civilization, Part 1by Fr. Charles Bak, MSAThis book tells a good story, actually the best story–the real story! So much of history involves rejection of the loving Father of all. That’s very sad, but—on the other hand—the beautiful side of history is how God writes it through the Incarnation of His only begotten Son. History is the story of Man and of God’s love for Man. Truly, history is HIS-STORY in which we see the depths of evil (for instance, people throwing their babies to Moloch or Baal) and the heights of love (the Lord Jesus, after his crucifixion, rising and ascending into Heaven with the promise to bring us there—with Him—to His Father and our Father). Episode 161: Ben Bongers on The Saint Nicholas Society (May 8, 2022)
In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Ben Bongers on The Saint Nicholas Society (May 8, 2022)Fred went from having it all—the girl, the car, the mansion—to being on the street. After being taken in by a kindly priest, he is diagnosed with cancer and begins to question what’s left for him to live for. Nearly falling off the wagon, he is shocked and inspired while watching a modern-day Secret Santa on a TV news broadcast in the bar. Soon he begins to emulate the real Saint by secretly giving to those in need. Along the way he teams up with a band of “misfit-toy” compatriots who each question what life has in store for them. Fred’s story parallels the historic Saint Nikolas of Myra. Told in first person, we learn of then Nicholas’s friendship with an avowed pagan, the loss of his parents at an early age, and his being taken in by an ordained uncle. We follow his life and rise in an outlawed Church, the hardships and fears he had to endure, the communities he created, and his eventual service to the emperor, Constantine. Woven together like a fine tapestry, Fred and Nikolas’s stories inspire everyone to remember that the best ways to live are through kindness, community, and good deeds—showing that the more things change the more they stay the same.https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/thesaintnicholassociety/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

Episode 160: Kiki Latimer interviews Stephen Beach on his book The Drama of Metaphysics (April 27, 2022)
In this episode of Author to Author, guest host Kiki Latimer interviews Stephen Beach on his book The Drama of Metaphysics: An Exploration into the Psychological Power of Worldviews. Western Philosophy has been a 2500-year conversation attempting to understand the reality which lies beyond the changing physical appearances of the world. This perennial metaphysical discussion provided the West with a framework for its beliefs, politics, morality, and common values. In the 20th century, this conversation was rejected in favor of new Materialist ideologies like Methodological Naturalism, Nazism, Nihilism, Communism, and Transhumanism. The success of these experiments in ideology hinge, though, on one central problem: Can man really be shaped into the image of his own making, or will his metaphysical identity always make a return?https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/dramaofmetaphysics/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

Episode 159: Francis Etheredge on Reaching for the Resurrection (April 20, 2022)
In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Francis Etheredge on his book Reaching for the Resurrection: A Pastoral Bioethics. (April 20, 2022)Francis Etheredge returns to the subject of bioethics with essays on loneliness, aloneness, euthanasia, meaning, anorexia and purpose, brain death and the life and death of Jesus Christ. Why? Because man, male and female, one in body and soul, suffers as a religious being. To be able, therefore, to respond mercifully and constructively to a variety of human wounds, opening up, again and again, the possibilities of life, we need to recognize that the whole of human personhood entails being-in-relationship: that man is a social being and exists in relation to God and neighbor: the God who comes to show us the truth-in-love that heals and calls us to share what we have received with our neighbor.https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/reachingfortheresurrection/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

Episode 156: Kiki Latimer on Home for the Homily (April 13, 2022)
Home for The Homily: The Sacred Art of Homiletics concerns a new and required depth of preaching the word of God within the Mass. This calls for a new and deeper appreciation of communication skills. The homilist may no longer stand separately on the shoreline nor drift in the safety of shallow waters, rather he must have the faith of Peter to “put out into deep water.” This requires depth of soul, depth of character, depth of vulnerability, and depth of skill. When Christ asks Peter to “put out into the deep water,” Peter considers his level of faith in Jesus and decides, by grace, to do so. This is a pivotal moment; without this affirmative decision there will be no catch. It is no different for the homilist today. The intimacy and depth of the effective homily requires an affirmative decision to put out into the deep. May this book help you, the homilist, put out into the deep and thereby, allow the homily to reach its four sequential destinations: the home of the Mass, the home of the Intellect, the home of the Heart, and the home of the Will, the domestic Church where homily is lived out.https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/homeforthehomily/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Dcn. As one in four women experience miscarriage, it is essential to provide resources, bring awareness, and teach the community how to engage appropriately so these families are supported properly. Our hope is this book will help families and the community navigate the many obstacles encountered after child loss. The International Theological Commission, with the approval of Pope Benedict XVI, offers a theologically-grounded hope of that in "The Hope of Salvation for Infants who Die without Being Baptised" located online at https://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/cti_documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070419_un-baptised-infants_en.html"The conclusion of this study is that there are theological and liturgical reasons to hope that infants who die without baptism may be saved and brought into eternal happiness, even if there is not an explicit teaching on this question found in Revelation. However, none of the considerations proposed in this text to motivate a new approach to the question may be used to negate the necessity of baptism, nor to delay the conferral of the sacrament. Rather, there are reasons to hope that God will save these infants precisely because it was not possible to do for them that what would have been most desirable— to baptize them in the faith of the Church and incorporate them visibly into the Body of Christ."https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/deaconanddoctor/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

Episode 152: Ivan Arthur on Pavement Prayers (April 8, 2022)
In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Ivan Arthur on his book Pavement Prayers (April 8, 2022)Kalia confessed to murder last night amid a hushed silence that lasted only a short while before he went into detailed account of the events that led to it . . .Thus begins one of the prayers in this book. This is a book of prayers that tell a story. But, of course, all prayers – all personal prayers – tell stories. Prayer is, in many ways, the spiritualization of incident, and in every fervent prayer one can find a short story of an epic sticking to it. The Mumbai pavement is wonderfully rich in story. For every twenty-or-so-steps that you take over it, your feet could be shuffling through chapters, or, perhaps, volumes of intricate plot, moving human drama and the most thrilling narrative. This book is those twenty-or-so-steps of narrative and plot, the story of a pavement dweller and his patch of pavement told in the most intimate form of narration: his personal prayer.https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/pavementprayers/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Fr. Jacob Dankasa on his book Faith, Not Convenience (March 20, 2022)It’s difficult to remain a committed Christian in our today’s society where social, moral and political views are often in conflict with the standards of the teachings of Christ. The infiltration of personal ideologies into the faith has left many Catholics and Christians confused. Many cannot be certain where the application of their personal ideologies stops and the gospel begins. In this book, Father Dankasa accompanies you on the path towards a consistent life journey in faith to find God in your prayer life, in your relationships, in your desire to live a virtuous life, in your community, and in your virtual life – yes, to find God also online. He points out how holiness in the virtual environment is as important as holiness in everyday “real life.” The book provides reflections with inspiring real-life stories and scripture to help you consistently journey with Jesus in your everyday life without losing your faith despite doubts, fears and misunderstandings of faith and religion. It intends to accompany you in your spiritual journey to desire the gospel, not ideologies – faith, not convenience.https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/faithnotconvenience/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.

Episode 147: Fr. Dominic Ibok on Faith and Facebook (March 8, 2022)
In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Fr. Dominic Ibok on his book Faith and Facebook (March 8, 2022)In Southeast Missouri, where Catholics are a minority, the challenge of diminishing participation and reduced membership requires an intentional engagement of the inactive members and the unaffiliated within the community. Unfortunately, many members of the laity do not have the awareness or skills to evangelize. In a rural community, the challenges seem more significant due to limited personnel and resources. This book aims to equip the laity with the skills and tools to evangelize inactive Catholics and the unaffiliated. It involves their growing in prayer, study, generosity, evangelization, and the discernment of their charisms. With the benefit of social media engagement like Facebook live stream, an opportunity to engage and evangelize is available for our rural parish community. The resources from experienced lay evangelists in evangelization and social media engagement will provide a template that can enhance the development of a program on evangelization for my rural parish community. To test the effectiveness of these resources, seventeen participants engaged in a nine-week program to learn how prayer, study, generosity, evangelization, the discernment of their charisms, and teamwork can prepare them for evangelization. This thesis engaged the inactive Catholics and the unaffiliated in rural Southeast Missouri by using Facebook live stream as an evangelization tool. The focus of this project is thus reminding active Catholics of their responsibility to evangelize and how utilizing a familiar social media portal like Facebook can enhance the process even in a rural community.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/author-to-author--4129285/support.
