In this project we’re making a bluetooth controlled light up cauldron. This 3d printed cauldron is designed to house an Adafruit Circuit Playground Bluefruit. You can change the color of the LEDS with an iPhone using the Bluefruit App for iOS and Android. All of the electronics are secured underneath the cauldron so it’s a nice little portable project. Learn Guide: https://learn.adafruit.com/cappy-monster-m4sk In this video we’ll show you how to use Adafruit’s Monster M4sk and attach it to your hat with our 3d printed case. The Adafruit Monster Mask is an all-in-one board that’s designed for beginners looking to add electronics to their projects. With the monster mask you can customize the eyes to match the theme of your character. The board is designed so it can be split apart and joined back together with a cable. So you separate the eyes or bring them closer together which is great for projects like Cappy. It's really easy to customize the look of the eyes. Just open the text file and change things like the size of the iris or the color of the pupils. Check out the Learn guide for a quick start and read through all of the different options you can play with. The guide covers everything you need and there’s lots of great projects for inspiration. You can get the parts to build this project, links are in the description. Download the files and 3d print the parts. If you need to make any changes, you can modify the source files and remix the design. We got this really nice Cappy hat from Amazon. It’s got padded polyester so it feels comfortable. You can separate the eyes using flush diagonal cutters. Just follow the perforated holes. Be sure to do this in a well ventilated area and avoid breathing in any dust. With the PCBs separated, you can connect them back together with a 9-pin JST SH cable. This gives you about 10cm of distance. For this project we’ll bring them closer together. Start by installing them into the case. You can use M3 nylon screws to secure them to the built-in standoffs – An electronic screwdriver makes this much easier. This 500mah lipo battery should give you about 3 hours of battery life. You can use foam tape to stick it behind the PCB. The eye covers are printed white PLA filament and super glued on top of the case. Next we’ll need to remove the existing eyes from the hat. Start separating them by pulling apart the edges. We used a ceramic blade to slice through the glue. We were pretty careful not to cut the fabric or any of the threads. You’ll want to take your time if you want to salvage these eyes. The 3d printed case is large enough to cover up any glue stains or strands of thread. To attach the case to the hat we used a needle and thread. We designed tabs on the side of the case so you can stitch it to the hat. You can create a running stitch by passing the needle in and out of the fabric. Just be sure to make a knot and tie off the thread to keep it from coming undone. And there you have it! That's how you make Mario’s Cappy with animated eyes. This is a wearable case for the Adafruit Monster M4SK. The 3D Printed case snap fits together and lets you add a headband so you can wear it. The case has all of electronics so it’s nice and portable little package. The open frame design shows off the silkscreen so you enjoy the lovely artwork. You can wear it as a pair of goggles or work it into your costume projects. They can be worn over your eyes, just be careful as you won’t be able to see very well. The Adafruit monster Mask packs a ton of awesome stuff into one single board. It’s running a cortex M4, it’s got 8 megabytes of flash storage, USB charging and 2x IPS TFT displays. It also has buttons, light sensor, expansion ports and accelerometer. Be sure to check out the product page for the full run down. For a quick start, definitely check out the learn guide. The board has native USB support, so you can upload code and recharge the battery. It works like a USB drive so you can drag and drop bitmaps to change up the graphics. You can modify the look and customize the eyes by editing a special config file. There’s lots of great project examples so you can get started right away! Hey folks, this week we’re making accessibility buttons for the Adafruit PyGamer. These buttons are 3d printed with the braille alphabet so folks can touch and feel the buttons. We made a full set of these button caps to press fit over the PyGamer switches. They’re are printed flat side down with the stem facing up. All buttons in this kit fit on the bed of the 3D printer and only took a half hour. The alphabet consists of dots in a 2 by 3 configuration. These dots are quite small but we were able to fit them on buttons with a diameter of 9mm. Each cover piece has it’s own set of dots so you can pick and place any letter you like. To remove the parts from the bed, I like to use a razor blade. Just need to carefully get the edge of the blade underneath the part without scratching the bed. While picking out the covers, it might be a bit tricky to make out the alphabet so I suggest a cheat sheet. so you’ll need to be cautious of the orientation when placing the covers. Just a small drop of superglue is all it needs to bond to the caps. Once you get them on you can test out the button presses and get a feel for the dots. Each button can have different sounds so you can build your own sample kit. All of the electronics are housed in our 3D printed enclosure. The top and bottom covers snap fit so it’s easy to put together. It’s designed to be portable, compact device and it’s open source. In previous build we used several boards to make a similar project. For this one we can use Adafruit’s Feather and the Prop Maker Feather Wing. Check out the learn guide for documentation. You can follow along step by step to wire the electronics and build the assembly. In this project we're building a rig for installing heat set inserts. Use 3D printed parts and hardware to build a solder rig with smooth linear roller action! Make perfectly straight inserts with precision using a tip for installing inserts. Learn guide: https://learn.adafruit.com/heat-set-rig/ When working with 3D printed parts, a press can help you install inserts. This holds a soldering iron vertically and allows you to press down, perfectly straight. The tip of the iron heats up the brass and softens the plastic. Pressing down pushes the insert into the part and once it cools down, it’s locked in place. This could be handy for folks doing a small production run or if you're looking for a tool to make this easier. This rig makes installing inserts feel like pressing a hot knife through butter – The linear motion on this build feels smooth. This is definitely over engineered and we spent way too much time on it but we think folks will find it useful. The rig is modular and uses common hardware – The 3d printed parts can be remixed and modified to work with other components. There’s a learn guide for this project so folks can build their own. Holding the iron straight seems simple enough and works fine most of the time but the conical shape of a regular soldering iron tip can catch the insert and accidentally pull it out while melting the plastic – And that can sometimes ruin parts. Build a mini mac with HalloWing that displays boot screen actually plays startup chimes! It uses the Adafruit HalloWing M0 Express and runs Circuit Python. The capacitive touch pads cycling through images and sounds stored on device. Circuit Python makes it easy to display images on TFT displays. The HalloWing PCB snap fits onto the face plate without any screws. A mini speaker plugs into the audio port on the back. Press fit the speaker into the back door and close it shut with the built-in latch. You can power the HalloWing over USB or recharge a lipo battery to make it portable. In this project we’re adding NeoPixels and motorizing the color wheel. The Adafruit CRICKIT is great for this project, it can drive NeoPixels, servos and lots of other sensors and components for building robots. The board and components fit inside the light box and secured with 3d printed parts. All of the components stack on top of each other, making this an easy mod!
