And before we do, I want to ask you once again to pray with me.We need help in understanding God's Word. Lord Jesus, it is important to me that you are our instructor, that through the Holy Spirit you open our minds and illuminate our hearts.
Help us to get what you're saying to us in a way that makes a difference. It's easy for these things to go into our heads and not to our hearts, and we need you to help us make that journey.Lord, we're dependent on you today.
Help us as we read Romans 7.In Jesus' name, amen. Okay friends, get out your Bibles. We're going to be in Romans chapter 7 verses 21 through 24 today.21 through 24.And here's what Paul says.
He's been talking about the relationship we have to the law of God. and where this struggle with sin comes from.So here he's gonna kind of summarize in verse number 21.
He says, so I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. Now let's pause for a moment. From the verses prior to this, we can see that when he says evil lies close at hand, he's referring to this power called sin.
It's a spiritual power that exists in the world and drives human beings towards sinful behavior. It's already corrupted us internally, and that's been passed down to us through Adam and Eve, our ancestors from long ago.
But this power of sin continues to drive us towards sinful behavior as well.So he says there's a law that exists now that when we want to do right evil, this power of sin lies close at hand.In verse 22, for I delight in the law of God.
So he's talking about our inner being.Look what he says.I delight in the law of God in my inner being.See, that's the real you and me. We delight in the law of God because God has redeemed us through the power of Jesus Christ.
Verse 23, but I see in my members... Now, what did we say a few episodes back about these members? He's talking about the parts of our physical bodies, our hands, our feet, our mouths, our brains. He says, I see in my members another law.
So, not this law of him desiring to do right, but another law, waging war against the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. So, friends, recognize what Paul's saying here.
There is not a bad you and a good you. There is not. There's only a good you.A good you that Jesus has created, redeemed through your faith in Him.And what's going on
When you're fighting this spiritual battle, is that this spiritual power called sin that lives in your human body, notice what he says, it dwells in my members. He says it in verse 23 at the beginning and at the end.Let me read it again.
But I see in my members another law. waging war against the law of my mind.See, that's the real you, that law of your mind. He's talking about your renewed mind. And it makes me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
Do you see, friends, this battle going on, this primary spiritual battle every one of us faces, happens between this power of sin that exists in our human bodies and this renewed self that we have. This renewed mind Jesus has given us.
That's where the battle happens. Then in verse 27, he describes how that feels.Wretched man that I am, who will deliver me from this body of death. Now friends, don't hear that word wretched meaning sinful. It doesn't mean sinful. It means miserable.
We are miserable because of this battle that goes on.So who will deliver us?Who will take over?Friends, we're going to find out in tomorrow's episode where the freedom comes from.
Lord Jesus, we are grateful to know that there's not a bad us and a good us fighting against each other. No, we are not divided. We are not a house divided that's going to fall. We are unified in Christ.
We have this new law of our mind, this renewed mind that Jesus has given us.But this power of sin is coming against us.Show us.Show us tomorrow how to find liberty and find the source of freedom. You are good. You are great.
And we know you're going to help us.So help us today in the practical issues of life to live as your light in this dark world. I so appreciate you listening to The Morning Mindset.
