Wow, Yolanda, you get to be right there inside that studio.
Oh, yeah.I've never been here before.
Oh, I just anything that has iHeart on it is just I mean, when you walk in there, it's such an experience. And that's what they really, truly kind of bring it forward.
Look at what you're doing with your acting.I mean, this movie with Liam Neeson and Ron Perlman.I mean, this is going to be the conversation that people are going to be having.Did you get to see?Did you get to see?
And then when people do see it, it's the after conversation I want to be a part of.
I'm with you.Because we need storylines like this.We need escapes like this.We need to have the adventure. What was it like being on that set?
Working with Liam was great. And also with Hans, there was a whole VFX situation that he was really a part of. making happen there in Boston.
So it's like, I don't want to give everything away about how the film was made, but there were some really, you know, some of the surreal points that are in the film were very interesting to see on set.
And I also, I had never worked in Boston, so that was really great as well.Getting to know Boston, getting around there.People were so cool to us and everything. We were in some neighborhoods, restaurants, off the water. It was beautiful.
One of the things that I've always loved about movie making is the fact that they have really made the background the city's such a major Star of what's going on and you being going you know going to Boston for the very first time We have a lot of films that are done here in Charlotte.
It's that background that really brings that storyline together It does I mean because you know
I know you saw the movie, there's parts of Boston that are used a lot in Thug's background off the water near the airport. It's part of the story, definitely part of the story, the city.So I thought it was very cool for them to do that.
Because I know it was supposed to be somewhere else, I think California at first.
Wow.What's the prep like?Because, I mean, I'm a show prepper, so I always want to know how the actors and actresses are putting their prep together. And what did you study before going into this role? What happened?
Well, I did, I visited Boston right before, and I just wanted to kind of get a feel for the city, for the people, for the sound, and learn where my character was from.Let's see, what else, what else, what else?
just kind of get to know some of the crew and everything that we worked with.So my prep, a lot of it was with Liam, you know, since all our scenes are together. There was the city and there was Liam.
So, you know, we talked about certain scenes, things we wanted to do.And, you know, it was a light prep.It was a light prep.Wasn't crazy.
But still you envisioned it.I mean, that's the thing that a lot of people don't understand how you have to envision before you act upon.
Yeah, I mean, I feel you have to because to go into a thing, you know, when you're acting, you're jumping into character. You know, a lot of times you may or may not get rehearsal.
You know, I come from working on TV a lot now, and we don't really have a lot of rehearsal. We don't have rehearsal. It's not like, you know, you take this day to do that unless you're doing it on your own time.
with this movie, you know, it's kind of the same way.So, you know, we prepped before we even left for Boston.
Liam and I worked on some stuff and just kind of talked about the characters because that's the biggest thing is understanding your character.
Because if you know your character inside and out, you can then, you know, act and react to anything that comes at you within the scene.
The way that you bring your characters to life, I mean, do you study people in the way, because it feels like that you're always in that character, in the way of that, she's real.I'm feeling emotion out of this.
Yeah, yeah, I do.I've always been, always since childhood, been interested in human behavior. How we do things, why we do things, people that are not me, you know, just understanding just human behavior, because it's interesting.
It's really interesting. But this woman, she has no filter, and that was completely different for me.And there's a different energy in her body. For me, I am very laid back, very chill.I think about everything before it comes out of my mouth.
She does not think about things. They just come out.You bing, she goes bam. It's like playing ping pong with a woman, I feel. She says things, she reacts quickly.I felt that was part of her personality.
she may feel about herself and feel that she is the black sheep in her family. And with those feelings, maybe even playing them up a little, you know, as far as like being kind of wild a little.
Because I feel like, you know, and this was all my own backstory for the character, because it wasn't there.
But just knowing that she comes from a family that is well off, and her background is very different than Thug's, it's a very interesting thing. And the fact that she gets the opportunity to help him, it kind of makes her collect herself a little.
act with a little more restraint because she's now kind of caring for someone else. That was part of my own work with that character.
Yeah, because when you were talking about the ping and the pong, sometimes when, because I don't mind getting in conversations that go like that. And the reason why is because it helps me learn more about them.
But I believe at the same time, you're learning about your ping. And so therefore, then all of a sudden, you're now part of a circle and you're not so alone.
Mm-hmm.Mm-hmm.Yeah, I'm with you on that.I'm totally with you on that and it builds up that relationship is what it does Yeah, I mean it It's like throwing out all these things that then sort of get wound together and they can become tight then and
And that's what I think you were saying, right?Yeah.
Yeah.Yeah.Because, well, I always call it hidden speak.Usually when you get in with somebody who has no filter, it's like, what are you really trying to say here?I know you've got a message.I feel it, but I'm going to get it out of you.
That's a good way to put it.That's an interesting way to look at it. It is.Because sometimes, I mean, because that can go, depending on who that person is talking to, that can go different ways.
Like it could turn people off to where they're just like, oh, she's crazy.Oh, she's whatever. But if you take the time to actually listen to what she's saying, there's stuff in there.Like, like what you were just saying. There's stuff in there.
She's smart. She does know things. She's not just, you know, this might come out a certain way, but what she's saying does actually make sense and is saying something.
Well, the movie says something to a lot of the viewers in the way of now, it may not be a call back to violence, but it's going to be a call back to something.
And I think that people are going to see themselves in this role, because when you're called back to something, when you're trying to get away from it, it's like, oh, oh, and then you have to make that choice.
And so, I mean, I love the fact that we can be in this movie as well.
Mm hmm. There's a lot of choices to be made in this film by different characters.I feel like all of us in this have a choice to make and those choices do affect others. So it's very interesting how what Thug does, Liam's character,
because he's got a few people, you know, his hands in a few fires that he makes decisions to, oh, I don't want to like say everything. You know, it's just sort of like. He's got choices and he's got things to do.

The young actor who plays the grandson.Come on now.We know he's on his way to greatness.Oh, I really think that we're going to be seeing him 15, 20 years from now and go, do you remember when?
Yeah, their stuff together is so touching. It's just honest. It's very interesting when you see children do things with actors. They're just raw. They don't have filters.
You know, they're not acting, even though they are saying the lines that are in the movie, the emotion is just there. And to see the stuff with he and Liam was so good.
I know I found myself because, you know, I was in a couple of those scenes in the house. And you're just standing there, like, watching, and it's like, wow.You know?
So crazy. So good.I've often wondered how you guys deal with that, when two other people are sharing their lines, and you're the bystander, basically, and you're in the front row.
Or either that, or you're the drummer in the band, and you're back there watching everything.
Wait a minute, you just made me think about something.
Our opening, when woman is introduced in the bar, it was so funny because we're getting into this whole thing, me and the guy that I'm with in the scene, Bruce, and we're doing our part, doing our part, and then it's like, okay, wait, well, isn't Liam supposed to come and stop this?
And we just sort of like,
you know look he's like oh i was sitting there watching you guys you were so good i was like dude you have to come over and help me it was so funny so but that was that that scene really broke the ice for all of us because that was our i think that mine and liam's second scene but
With Bruce, it was our first scene with the three of us together. It was so funny because he just sat there and watched and didn't join the scene. So yeah, it happens.
When it comes time to breathe air into the storyline itself, what is that like for you, that transition?Because I love the way that people can do that. They've got that energy and the skills to just become.
Yeah, that to me, I feel for me, I feel it's a gift because it wasn't something that I went and studied. What I did study as, you know, as a person is just human behavior.People are so interesting to me.How we do things, our tics,
all the little things that we do, how we act and react. And from writing as well, you start dealing with human behavior.
So it's very interesting to bring somebody to life that is very different than me, because I'm one of those people that anything that comes out of my mouth is thought about first before speaking. And woman really is not that person.
She's not that person. She just, things come out of her quickly, without filter, and she's smart.Even though her delivery might not come out that way, she is smart. So it's, she's a different person, and her energy is different.
Like, her energy is way higher than mine.Like, I can, you know, function at almost a comatose level.I'm just very, very calm, like, all the time. And she is a bit hyped up a lot.And that's her own thing.I feel like she's one of those people.
And this was like, you know, character study, but also just character development.I feel she was one of those people that started a lot of things and never finished them.
went from one thing to the next, and I feel with her connection with Thug and finding out what he's dealing with, her nurturing ability
I feel like it did, it calmed her, you know, and hopefully, you know, as you watch the film, you'll see that, but that's how I played her and brought that character to life in that way.
Because I love to watch human behavior and I love to study people's emotions as well as their reactions. And one of the things that I've always believed in is that when people say, are people happy to see you?No, they're happy I see them.
And woman to me is that person. She's happy that Liam sees her and therefore she returns that I see you too.And I love that little connection right there because it shows viewers the opportunity.
Get to know them, get to know them and find out their true story and not the judgment.
Oh my gosh, I need to interview you. That was beautiful. It was beautiful. But that is exactly it.I feel to a lot of people, if you met somebody like her who can come off loud and boisterous, silly, all kinds of things, you might get turned off.
You might not get to know them. You might think they're either crazy. You might think they're, whatever, but you might not take the time to get to know them.In this case, you're right. He got to know her and she got to know him because he's standoffish.
He pushes you away. You know, he's not an easy one, but she keeps turning up.
She's there and and they these two broken people these two Hard to get to know people got to know each other and that and that that to me is a beautiful thing What did you learn from this project?
Because you've always been that student you you go in there you learn new things and then you try them out Hmm I did get to try some things out.
Um, I Some of them you don't see, sadly.I got to just be.To be without thought. And that's what I was saying earlier, just how she's not like me.Because I am a watcher, I'm reserved. She is not. speaks from the heart, from off the cuff, it just does.
So to have that in my body was a different thing to feel and to project and to put out there. And I appreciated it.
their manic behavior you get to feel their joy to see somebody there you know wonder and all these different things when you speak of you got to be right away my creative mind is going oh this this is rocking my totem animal world are you are you a silent wolf do you stand on the sidelines and just watch and study and bring things forward in the way of teaching others
Yeah, I try to, yeah.I mean, because I also feel, you know, I feel the parts that I have actually gotten in my career, they most times are people that we are not looking at.
So for me to get the opportunity to bring them to life for you, for whoever comes to see Absolution, whoever comes to see The Chi or anything that I've been in, it's like I'm showing you somebody that's right there. You've seen her before.
You've seen her on the subway. You've seen her in the store. You've seen these people, but you don't look at them. You don't get to know them. You know, like my character on The Shard, she's a nice woman.I feel she's a woman everybody knows at their job.
Everybody knows at this place, that place. They went to school with her. They saw her in the store. They see her every Friday when she goes shopping, but they never get to know her. Those are the women that I bring to life.
You have got to come back to this show anytime in the future.I love how deep we get to talk.Oh, thank you.Well, you be brilliant today and congratulations. This movie is coming out right there at Thanksgiving.
So this is going to be the Thanksgiving talk.I guarantee it.
