Hey everyone it's Jay Shetty and I am so excited to let you know that my latest podcast interview is with the one and only Tom Hanks.
I have left many wonderful atmosphere or a loving atmosphere without thinking oh things were really wonderful back then I wish I was back there.Jay I don't think I've ever thought that.
Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.Trust me, you won't want to miss this one.
So I met a 96-year-old man through someone that I've been spending some time with. And longevity is a really interesting topic, like health and longevity. And the truth is, many people talk about healthy living. He or she lives a healthy lifestyle.
You know, I know more and more people living 93, 96.Like, I hear about this a lot. It's shocking to me.It's just, like, it's a number.
And then you hear, like, oh, this person lived to 100 and something, and they smoked cigarettes, living, you know, and drank beer. There is a massive space in longevity and studies in it, but, like, it is a bit of a horoscope.
It's not that easy to figure out what it is.And I got to believe it works for everyone differently.I have a Keurig coffee maker that's brand-new, and every time I put the pot in, the pot explodes and liquid's coming out the sides.
Like, it's brand-new.Then people have a $30 coffee maker they got, you know, years ago at Sears and Roebuck, and it still works. While there is something to longevity, some people are just built differently, right?
Some people never stress about anything. Some people probably eat shit food their whole life and never stress about a single thing.Like, did people have pets? Were they married for most of their lives?Like, was life easier in a certain way?
Did they work harder?Did they have more purpose?Like, what is it?It's crazy if you think about it.
Because you know that the people that are now 96 certainly didn't have their own personal water supply like I do in my hand right now, didn't, weren't eating organic foods and matcha and acai and goji berries, right?
So it's an interesting discussion.I have to believe that being happy seems like a good way to live a long time.It feels like it.This friend of mine's father,
who's 96, is really happy, like really place of yes, really glass half full, really like alive and loves the stories, like loves to talk about the stories and the nostalgia, likes the action. So this 96-year-old man took to me
Because I mean action to him.He was the head of BBDO, the marketing advertising agency, for years. And I think he owned stock there, and I think he was really smart about the way he took stock options. And so he's been very successful.
loves that, like, I'm a marketer, because I guess his whole life was in marketing, and then he was a bat boy, a Yankees bat boy, and, um, a thousand years ago, and he created the Major League Baseball logo and worked at the head of marketing for Major League Baseball.
And I say this all because he's fascinated by me as a marketer.Like, that's what he... He wanted to know, like, what I do.What do I do on the podcast? His name is Tom.His name is really Carmelo, but he goes by Tom.
And he wanted to know, like, explain to me what goes on with the TikToks.Like, he doesn't understand my business, like, why I have, like, a business and how I market and the difference between traditional television and social media.
Because, like, you know, obviously growing up, we had two, four, five, seven, with the channels.I don't think you had five. You had, like, two, four, and seven.Later came five, and 11, and nine, and 13.
And then, you know, obviously, cable, and then streamers. And, like, so he doesn't... Now we have that streamers are almost archaic.Cable is like a dinosaur.Network television is a complete prehistoric creature.
And, like, social media is how kids are watching their content. So he was fascinated by me explaining it to him.And he wrote a book. This guy wrote a book.I mean, it's so inspiring. He wrote a book and he sends a newsletter every day.
So anyway, last night. I had dinner with him.I had gone to lunch with him one time.He asked me out to lunch. So I went to his country club for lunch. He had great stories. He's totally lucid, totally together, like, totally on it.
And then we went to dinner, and he asked me to promote his book. And how did he ask me to promote his book?He gave me a folded-up piece of paper that he had printed out the highlights of it.Like, he gave me his bio.
I was laughing, and I was, like, gonna... I threw it away.I just did a throwaway, like, post on Instagram stories, like, Saying his name that he should buy it, but it was like not Inspired.
I mean it was I meant it it was just like and then I was like screw it.You know what?Let me do it with him.So I saw him for dinner and You know with people from his family. And I just said, I have a man in my life. He's 96 years old.
I met him through someone I know.He's definitely a flirt.We know that.He's with it.And he wrote a book.And he's sitting next to me.And he's like, it's on Amazon.And I, like, linked it.And I was crying.And he's so handsome.
And then I was, like, did all my story, like, all the single ladies, question mark. You know, and I'm shocked by how many people have slipped into my DMs to get to go out with this man. He's handsome.
And like the stories are performing like almost double what a normal story would like.People are interested in somebody who's.Of a certain age, enjoying and living their life, not just like waiting.
for it to end, like place of yes, like living in the moment, being present, like living like you're gonna live forever.
And maybe that is the secret to longevity, because I'm telling you, I've never heard, have you ever heard of someone at 96 who writes a book, who then gives you a printed out, like instructions about how to promote it, and who like really, you know, said to me like four times, like, listen, maybe you can help me, I wanna be a bestseller.
I'm like, oh, my God.Like, it's almost like joking.I'm like, this guy, he, like, wants it.And he sends a newsletter every day.I get an email from him on, like, stories of his past or, like, excerpts from the book.
It's actually a very modern way to promote it. Like, and his publishers must be crying because, like, they did it as, like, a nice deed.Like, he's 96, so, like, of course, they're gonna give this, like, guy his wish. They let him write a book.
And now, like, me, I've got five stories up on Instagram about this man, and women are reaching out to me.Like, a woman this morning, my mother will kill me, but she's 86 years old, and she's stunning, and she lives on the Upper East Side.
And I look at a picture of her, and she's, like, put together, and she's gorgeous. And I asked him today, he's like, okay.Like, he wants to go out on a date? He's 96 years old. It's insane.Like, I am so, like, it's so fun.
And his family's so grateful and happy because, like, what do you want to do for your parents?I mean, listen, I don't have parents and I didn't have parents, but what do you want to do more for your parents than, like, give them more happiness?
Like, what's more boring than being old?Like, it could be really boring.I mean, I guess a lot of people do have a busy life and they have a social life and they have friends, but, like, A lot of people, it's very lonely and it's very depressing.
And a lot of people don't have family visiting them. And so like, what's nicer than just like giving somebody a glimmer of hope and giving them something, some purpose and some sizzle. Symbiotica is great.
I tried the super greens blend and I really like it.I also just love going into the fall, getting more greens into my diet. And this one gives you tons of energy too.

Hey everyone, it's Jay Shetty and I am so excited to let you know that my latest podcast interview is with the one and only Tom Hanks.
Tom rarely does long form interviews so I was so grateful to have the time to dive deep into family, mental health and the mindset behind his long successful career.
Dude, I travel light. and I can travel light emotionally, I'm done. There's stuff that I cannot control.I have left many a wonderful atmosphere, or a loving atmosphere, or a friendly atmosphere.
And like Ernie Banks, the, you know, the ballplayer for the Chicago Cubs, without ever looking back, without thinking, oh, things were really wonderful back then.I wish I was back there.Jay, I don't think I've ever thought that.
Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.Trust me, you won't want to miss this one.
So if you know anybody old, you know, who's like got something going on, I just feel like it made me, it was happy.Like I, it made me happy. It's like, okay. You know what I mean? He's got more energy than I do on many days.Yeah.
I'm looking at my Instagram. He is so adorable.People love him. This is insane. So cute.Like I can't, you don't understand the message that I'm getting. This is so fun.You know why, too?Because... And people are talking about baseball now.
Someone just sent me about their father, who's friends with Lasorda.Tommy Lasorda, for those of you who are too young, is a famous baseball player. The thing is, how relatable is... the elderly?Like, you're either elderly or you...
are a granddaughter or grandson, or you have an elderly parent, and, like, you feel you want them to have happiness, you want them to live forever, you're, like, looking into it.Like, it's so relatable.
It's, like, everybody can relate to an elderly person that... And also, people, like, are thrilled to see somebody look so good, because it's inspi... No, it also is inspiring to us, right?Right?Like...
You look at someone and you're like, holy shit, this guy looks good.Like, what is he doing?I mean, I want to bring him on here and tell everybody, like, his skincare routine and, like, what he's eating.Like, we need, like, what is he eating?
He does memory exercises.I think people should know that.Everybody can relate to that.Like, the moms will be, like, doing it for their parents.I think this man's an inspiration. That's what I actually think.
So we get to learn something, we get something, and we're going to make this guy so happy. So I'm going to invite him on. And I told him, like, we got to be brief.
We can't, like, get dragged out in the stories because, you know, these people have an attention deficit. And we got to get to the sizzle. He's going to tell you stories about Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy and, like, and Major League Baseball.
But then I think people want to hear about this guy. What do you see?Go on my stories and see. Oh, they would be down by them. But I'm going to put it on a TikTok too.Because I mean, I think we think this might play too.I mean, I this is the goal.
This is the ultra golden bachelor. So anyway, I don't know why I'm just on a high because that was just so cute. And it made his family so happy. Most importantly, I don't know.Let's give us an overall message. Like, I'm a big tipper, okay?
Sometimes it's hard if I'm around men because I just always want to have cash in my purse because, like, I worry they're not going to tip to the level that I will.
So even my daughter goes out to dinner with her friends, I'm, like, always worried she's not going to tip to the level that I will, because she won't.And I'm a big tipper. But I'm also, like, the big gift giver, and I'm always gifts.
Yesterday, seven gifts went out.Every day, there's gifts coming out of my house.I love to give gifts, and I'm a big tipper. And my philosophy and reason for it It means so much more to them than it does to me.Like, it's so much more.
So what, you're going to be at the coffee place and it's ridiculous that you buy $4 water and it's a $2 or $3 tip?Who gives a shit if you can afford it?If you can't afford it, I'm not speaking to that at all.
Don't give anything if you can't afford it.And usually people who can't afford it tip more because they know how much it means to them.So that's the upside down.Rich people tip less because they're so fucking delusional and clueless.
They don't realize the difference that a good and a bad tip makes. You know, it means so much. And so I am a tipper everywhere I go, every person, everything I like, and I freak out and I like to have the smallest amount of money, the biggest amount.
And I say that because I think in life. It means so much more to them than it does to us, so why wouldn't you do it?Like, the biscotti that I ate at my friend's house, I then called the person.I asked my friend, who brought this over?
Where'd this come from? She said, Sherry.I called Sherry, and I was like, I need to know where this biscotti came from. And then she said, you know, this bakery in Queens. Now, of course, I can't remember their name.
And I posted about it, and like, it changed their life. Gigi's Chicken Salad and Hoboken, what the hell does it matter?I'm eating the chicken salad, shout them out, it could change their entire business.
So I, now, I feel like I have a gift that I get, that I have influence.
I've been given this, no, I've created this influence where if I say something's good, people believe me, because I have no reason or motivation to lie, nor would I burn everything to the ground that I've built on something stupid. So I...
Why wouldn't I?So I now have this influence and people want my approval or want to know what it is.So great.
So I get to help all these like small businesses and help a 96 year old man who's so excited to get his family, you know, takes a burden off of them, not a burden response.
It takes an aspect off of them because you, you know, when you have elderly parents, you have to be there all the time and someone kind of has to be
Visiting them or on you know on the clock in some way and so I just feel like it's kind of like random acts of kindness It's kind of like if we can you should so I guess the whole message is if you can you should it's kind of why?
You want I'm exhausted after doing fashion week or something I get on the plane to go down and show that warehouse because I know We're gonna raise more money if people can see where it's actually going and like why wouldn't I?
So I think that's a message to pay it forward Symbiotica is great.I tried the super greens blend and I really like it.I also just love going into the fall, getting more greens into my diet. And this one gives you tons of energy too.
And it's the only supplement company with no seed oils, preservatives, toxins, or natural flavors. That is huge.Symbiotica is transformative.

So let's talk about breaking up and how men grieve versus women. So are you going through a breakup?Did you break up with someone months ago?Are you thinking about a breakup?Let me just tell you something that is a fact.
Men and women break up very differently and handle it very differently.Let's get a baseline. If two people were madly in love, it was a really good relationship, they were in love. And at some point, they break up. But they really were in love.
It was hard to break up.They care about each other. They thought they were going to end up together. They were doing it. I think, here's what happens.Men and women break up.
Men go immediately out with their guy friends, get wasted, get laid, get depressed, repeat.Get wasted, get laid, get depressed, repeat.
Sunday scaries, eating gross food, rest, work a couple days, regret, like not regret, like Sunday scaries and then repeat. And then after a while, after a good old while, they usually miss their ex.
because the ex was the one that was, you know, sitting around in sweatpants and pajamas while these new, younger women, presumably, are out making them feel great, and they're getting laid.
And then for every hot girl, there's a guy sick and tired of fucking her.
So now, the guy, all of a sudden, you know, it's the new car smell, and it comes off of this experience, and it feels like it's shallow and empty, and they're just going out drinking, feeling like shit. And now their ex is...
long gone, and they go low. They go low. They keep doing it because it's like eating junk food is the only thing to do.They keep, like, having sex with different women, and they love it, and they want to prove that they can do it.
Like, they want to prove that they can have game, and they think they have game, and some of their friends, their married friends think they have game in the beginning, and then their friends all think they're tragic.
And then their friends are all, like, rolling their eyes, like, it's enough, okay? And here's what the women do. while the men are out getting laid.
And some women are doing it, too, and women are trying to get themselves out there, but they're really crying in their soup.Like, unless they're a sociopath or they really weren't in love or, like, they're really good at this and in amazing denial.
Women, in the beginning, it's the crying, it's the girlfriends, it's the emoting, it's the sharing, it's the drinking during the day, it's the losing weight, the I can't eat, the kind of commiserating about it.
And then slowly but surely, they have a glow-up. They cut their hair. They dye their hair. They start working out. They start dressing differently. They start having a personality. They start going out.
They then creep into the exact same period when that man hits that low. That man will hit that breakup low.If you ever want to see this in a movie, About Last Night is the best breakup movie in history.
The man hits that low, and at that exact moment is when the woman is hitting her high. And here we have a problem, because that's when the men often can break the women down, but the smart women are going to stick it out.
So men and women mourn a relationship very differently, and men don't fall as easily. They don't fall as easily.A woman can fall immediately like a face to the pavement.A man is a little more tentative and less expressive.
But then if the man falls, to me, he falls harder. To me, if the man falls, he is gone. That ball is in the stands. And that's why there's like a different Reaction and every time you think you're never gonna get over him.
It's never gonna happen and somehow We are so friggin resilient. So just think about that your time if you're breaking up Your time for a glow-up and happiness will come Symbiotica is great.I tried the super greens blend and I really like it.
I also just love going into the fall, getting more greens into my diet. And this one gives you tons of energy too.And it's the only supplement company with no seed oils, preservatives, toxins, or natural flavors. That is huge.
