Take two.I think it's because somehow like the side panel thing. has now decided to disappear and I have to click on it for it to show up.Oh.I don't know why it decided to do that.
I think I accidentally hit something and I don't know how to undo it, but I'm like, well, still works. Here we go.Everything's fine. It's my life motto.Welcome to Artea Steeping and your special fifth week episode.
This was a fun one.It very much fits the vibes of the weather right now because it has cooled down this one single week for us.
It'll warm back up next week.
Yeah, but for now it feels like true fall and so... Yay, cozy vibes.
If it could be a high of 62 year round, I would be happy. You'd have to be in the 80s for one week to go to the beach and then cool back down.
I feel like I'd want a little higher than 62.Maybe like a 65.I love it.
If I could walk around with a hoodie on all the time.
That's fair.I love it.Yeah.Anyways.Anyways.What you're talking about is Spelfer Smith this week because it's so cozy and we just love it so much and we're talking about it more. Yay!That's it.
We also didn't want to have to read through anything else.
Honestly, yeah.We discussed doing Pride and Prejudice when we had a like girls night and we did uh just like watch through 2005 Pride and Prejudice and we're like ah this is also a lot of effort to take notes and we did crafts.
And we wanted to chill so... Yeah and the crafts took literally the entire movie so we more just had fun for background noise that was enjoyable.
We'll have to have another girls night where we actually sit there and just watch the movie.
Yeah we knew what was going on enough to quote it while our backs were turned to the TV and we would like flip around for the key moments like the hand flex and the The proposal in the rain.Yes, and the boiled potatoes.Yes.Yeah, obviously priorities.
What are you drinking this week, Caitlin?
I am drinking apple cider.
Woohoo! It's not tea, but it's in a mug. There we go, it's close enough. It'll balance out with mine, which is technically a tea, but not in a mug.
It's the V8 Energy orange pineapple, but it has energy from black and green teas, so there's technically tea in here. Somewhere.Yeah, somewhere. As long as it gets me through the afternoons.I don't put V8 and tea together.
Yeah, it's basically just like tea plus juice.Where is the ingredients?Yeah, water, vegetable juice, fruit juice, natural flavoring, citric acid, caffeine from black and green tea, vitamin C, sugar.Sucralose, technically.
Anyways.Anyways, we gotta clink again. Oh.I was like, mine doesn't do too much. There it goes!I was like, why is it?You gotta hit it with, like, the top.
The top of the rim of the can.Anyways, okay.Excuse me.Episode 21.Baby girl is, like, moving up and, like... Compressing your lungs?Yeah.Okay.
Brom is enjoying the herbal scent from the charm Ivy made for him that allows the fire in his forge to stay an exact temperature for four hours.
He remembers back to when she gave it to him and how self-conscious she was, telling him that it wasn't payment in full. But Brom loved the gift and told her how brilliant and useful it would be.Excuse me.
She's like pressing up right in this exact moment. So Ivy brightens up and gives him the other charms that she's made.Morpher's fires, a candle that burns longer and brighter, and a sleeping draught.Drought?Drought?Drought.You have to say draught.
Okay. It's one of those things I always read it.I never say it out loud.Nobody prescribes draughts anymore.No.
Back in the present time, a villager pops their head into Braum's forge, angrily yelling that he can smell the witch's magic and calls it filthy.
The man tells Braum that it's all lies and evil and that he'll refuse to buy from Braum until he stops all his dealings with the witch.Braum is furious and tells him, fine, find yourself another blacksmith, and turns away.
The man is flabbergasted because he's a quote paying customer, but Brom tells him he's made himself very clear and that he's obviously just not the smith for this man.
Then Brom's face darkens and tells him that he better not see him anywhere near his forge again. The villager runs away while telling Brom that he'll regret this, and he's going to go tell everyone what happened.
Brom tells him, go right ahead, and carries on with his work.I loved Brom in that moment. It was such a satisfying moment.Over in the forest, Ivy is making bread but keeps catching sight of her hair rings.
She blushes and thumps her head down on the table and asks Thistle what's wrong with her because she can't focus, catch her breath, and determines that she's just coming down with a cold.
She thinks that her pleasants aren't unpleasant, and that while she is distracted, she's having nice thoughts, and she pictures Brom, and Thistle just gives her a smug look. So cute!
So the type of charm that Ivy gives Braum really is brilliant and so useful, especially for a blacksmith.Like, that was just perfect.Because you have to keep the fire.
From all the knowledge I have from watching Forged in Fire. There we go.It's more knowledge than what I have. You have to keep it at, like, it has to stay at a specific temperature to do certain things. And so if it dips,
it can result in imperfections in the metal. If it gets too high, it can result in imperfections in the metal. So in order to have a strong implement, whether it's a sword or an axe or just a regular old tool, it's got to have the right thing done.
So it's a very smart gift.Yeah, it really is.And his reaction It was just so cute. And then her reaction to him loving it.Yes.It's all just so cute.It really is.
And all the charms that she gave him are just also incredibly useful.Like she really knows her stuff.I don't, I don't know another way to like say that, but like.
I think because we see later that she provides remedies for the townspeople, she's used to having to
Not guess but like work out what's gonna be useful for that person based off of what they do Mm-hmm, and I can't imagine he's the first blacksmith in town.
Yeah She's just not a super frivolous person either. So Oh man, I wanted to punch that villager. He was such a Karen.
I also thought, what does he know, like how does he know what her magic smells like?Because that means he would have either had to use it before or be around someone that had used it.So otherwise you're just gonna think it's a nice herbal smell.Yeah.
You're not gonna connect it to witchcraft. It's Halloween.I think this is going up on Halloween.I think it is.
Oh, look at that.Yeah, I think that's part of the reason.
Happy Halloween for those that enjoy to pick candy and wear costumes.
Yeah, that's about all we care about it for. Brom handled that whole situation really well, though, because he was so angry, but he didn't fly out of control about it.He just shut the Karen down and he didn't fan the flames of the argument.
He just turned everything they said around to make that look like an idiot. And I loved it.
But I think that's like exactly the way you have to deal with people like that because they clearly know they're being made a fool of but the words you're saying are like, I'm clearly just not the blacksmith for you because then you're making it your problem but it's not really your problem.
You're just agreeing with them the whole time. And then when he made that subtle, not-so-subtle threat at the end, where he's like, get out of my forge.Oh, I loved it.I loved it so much.
Someone bothered, like, okay, bye, see you never.
Never come back, please.I aspire to have Braum's level of the combination of both calmness, maturity, and pettiness. All three combined together.I want that. And the way that he defends Ivy without her even knowing, it's just, all the heart eyes.
It's one of those things that you really find out who people are when they're talking about you, when you're not around them. It's very true.Yeah.
And then when Ivy was like, oh, I just have a cold. No, you don't have a cold, you have a crush.
Got all the flower petals that were in those panels.Yes.
And then this old thing all smug at the end.
There we go. Episode 22, Brom takes his horse for a short ride in the woods and runs into Ivy, shocking them both.Ivy is about to blast Brom with magic until she realizes who he is and apologizes.Brom apologizes as well for frightening her.
He tells her it's good to see her and Thistle and notices her hair being different and compliments her on it.Ivy gets flustered and starts babbling and then berates herself.
During that inner monologue, Thistle approaches Brom and runs up against his legs, allowing the pets.Ivy is shocked but happy and asks about Brom's horse in return.Brom asks why she's so far from home, and Ivy tells him about her foraging.
He asks if she'd like company, and she tells him that would be nice. They discuss everything she finds, and Brom seems very interested in what Ivy has to say. So, I don't know why, but every time I see Brom riding Feldspar, it makes me giggle.
And I think it's because ponies are notoriously, they're a rough ride. Are they really?Yeah, they're not a smooth, smooth trot.Like there's some horses that are known for being like a smooth trot, but um,
My family, they, like my mom, grew up on a farm and they had horses and whatnot. And they had a pony for a little bit.
And this is like, probably like 10 or 15 years ago, because I think it may have been like a cousin's that they were letting stay at the barn. But they would still take him out and ride him and stuff, get him out or whatever.
And so I rode the pony once. And he got far, and they're stubborn as all get out, so you have to convince, unless you had a real good rapport with the horse, you've got to convince them to keep up with the rest of the group.
And we're going on a trail ride, and I'm falling behind, and I'm barely able to ride a horse on my own.And then, I guess I tapped him enough that he was like, oh, I have to catch up then.So we got into a trot, and Val bounced me out the saddle.
They're also known to be more cantankerous because the guy that we live next to he has horses and one of them is a pony.
Yeah, and you don't like my father-in-law will take our kids and go give the horses apples sometimes when we especially once the apples are like I don't know.
They're like good for horses, but they're a little too bruised that like a three-year-old's not gonna eat it.So he'll cut them up and take them to the horses. And if the pony's ever over there, he's a little too bitey.
You don't get your fingers near him. They give them to the other two, but the pony's also like almost blind. So that could be part of it is that he just doesn't know what he's doing. He can't see where he's like trying to get the apple.
But every time I see Brom on Feldspar, I'm cracking up because I'm like, man, it seems like a personality match to me.
Yeah, and they're like more cantankerous type of thing, but like it's also he's more used to obviously riding Feldspar, so he's probably worked out how to have a bit of a smoother ride and not get bounced out the side.
Like even at their full canter, they're still pretty bouncy. Probably because of the short legs.I do tend to be bouncy and I have short legs.
So whenever Ivy is about to like blast Braum with her magic, I have a feeling that Ivy is significantly more powerful than any of us realize. And I hope that we find out more about that later.
So I never picked up that she was like, the magic in her hand was to like, stunned Brom before she realized who it was.
I thought it was part of her foraging, so it makes a lot more sense that that's actually what, like, why she's got that powerful magic.
I don't think they need the connection because of, like, when he shocked her when he woke up and he grabbed her when he was sick.Yeah.
But she doesn't seem to use that magic often. It makes me wonder if there's something that happened that She like only uses it in self-defense now?I wonder. It could be like the face scar thing. That's not our county.I wonder why they're out this way.
I was like, oh.Oh, maybe not that.
It's like backup to others.Oh, OK.I was about to say, I don't know if they even have like jurisdiction here. They wouldn't be a primary. They would be like a assisting. Um, continuing.Continuing.Side track.
I loved that Brom noticed both Ivy's familiar and her hair and how it was still in his hair rings but like different. It was so cute. Um, and then the babbling and the inter-berating monologue for babbling is just 100% understandable.
Also, it cried me out that your typo, it didn't do 100%, it did 100 copyright!
And then Thistle approved Brom.I was like, this is not a drill!
That's also the way that helped her calm her down was really sweet.
I mean animals are a really great judge of character.I can probably count on one hand the number of people that my dog doesn't like and they have given me a weird feeling as well.
Like one distinct memory was when at our house we had some random guy show up in our backyard and like that might be normal for some people, or not as weird, but like, we have 80 acres.
You show up in my backyard, you've been hiking through our woods to get somewhere, to get into my backyard, and come stare in the windows of my house. That's weird. It is!
And it's this old man who is very obviously hiking through the woods, and there's also a lot of
um people who do drugs and like to run away from the cops that run through the woods and our dog was growling at him and I don't know if you've ever actually heard my dog growl like legitimately.Because he likes me.Oh he loves everyone.
He did not like this man and he was not nice to him and he was like going up to him and growling and the man was like can you like get your dog away?I was like No, I don't know.He doesn't like you.I don't like you.
And that means you need to leave beyond the fact that we have new trespassing signs and you walked right by them anyways. So anytime my dog doesn't like someone, I absolutely trust him.And I think that they feel the same way about this.Yep.
Yeah. I feel like cats it's even more because cats are even more selective with who they like.
Oh yes, if you are a chosen one. It's less of a you're a creep and more of a you are special.
Um, and Brom really meets Ivy on her own level, which I think is also amazing, because he's so interested in what she has to say, even if he doesn't particularly care about herbs.
Also, those are carrots, Brom.My favorite.Oh, this is, oh, that's cool.Oh, what are these?Carrots.Oh yeah.Food.
Was this me?Yeah.Oh, okay. It's the I number.Yeah.Ivy walks into town with the hood of her cloak up and people get her attention while hiding to do trades for her spells and potions.
The villagers are bitter about needing her help though and are unkind during the process.Ivy is dejected and sad by the end of it and just wants to go home, but suddenly she hears her name shouted loudly.
She turns around and sees Brom waving and happy to see her.He waves her into the forge and everyone is shocked.
Ivy asks if he's sure about this because the town will be upset with him, but he just tells her to have a seat and he'll make her a cup of tea.
She thinks that she's never been on a social call before, but that she seems to like them, all while smiling at Brom.
They share tea, and he tells her that him and John will be taking another trip soon since he lost most of his supplies after the last one, and he'll be gone for a few weeks.
Ivy jokes that with John with him, he won't need another charm, and Brom laughingly tells her that he wouldn't reject one.He offers to bring her something back, but Ivy gets extremely embarrassed and flustered, saying that he doesn't need to.
But Brom just leans into it and starts listing extremely extravagant things that he could bring back while Ivy freaks out more. The villagers are just terrible.
They know that she's not evil and they use her stuff, but they just won't admit it and let their bias and the whole town's opinion sway their minds.
Whereas, like, if they all just discussed the fact that they all use her stuff and they're all fine, they would maybe change their opinion, but no.
I doubt discussing it would even do anything for them. They're all too close-minded about it.
Yeah, but I really enjoyed this episode when it uploaded because in the canvas version one of the first things I remember was her like out like handing out the remedies and getting the payment for them and the townspeople being rude. That's not been
Prominent in this version. So when this came up I was like, okay So she does still do that because I wondered if in this version if she didn't supply the townspeople with any remedies So I was like, oh, okay, cool.
So she does still do that Yeah, same reaction that we would expect but I was like, well, maybe she doesn't interact with them at all in this version But she still does so it's nice.
Um, Brom always does exactly what's needed and in such a simple way.
So like, he knew that he needed to show that he didn't care what the other people thought about her and kind of make even more of a statement to the villagers like, I like her and I don't care what you think and he did it in such a simple way and good for him for showing that he's not ashamed of her.
Oh yeah. I mean, that's kind of the basics, but at the same time!
It would also be, peer pressure, it would also be easy to change your body language just a little bit.And change your tone of voice just a little bit.To where the townspeople would be like, oh, okay.
So, he doesn't like her either, but he's taking pity on her.Yeah, but no, he's so overjoyed to see her and shouting her name, waving, like, big gestures. Um, and whenever she's asking, like, oh, are you sure?
He doesn't even, like, deem her questioning to, like, need a response, and his lack of response is response enough.Oh, yeah.Um, and then poor Ivy, having never been on a social car before.
It was so sad but cute when she's like, I think I might like these.Um, and then not gonna lie, I'm also really terrible at receiving gifts, so I love her slowly dying in the background while he jokes about what to get her.
And the things he's listing are things she would never go for, but he knows that, and it's lightening the mood even more.
So that's why it's, like, exactly the right thing to say, because I think she also fully realizes, he's not actually bringing me back rubies and a tiara.Yeah, yeah.
But it's, it's like, if he's doing this, then it sounds like he actually will bring her something back, and it's like that, that whole, oh, so he actually, like,
does like me, even if it's not romantic, he still doesn't mind being around me as a person.
Yeah, and he knows what she would or wouldn't like at the end, so... I don't really want you to clink.
Later, Ivy wonders when Brom is actually scheduled to leave and wonders why he told her while she sits by the road waiting to see if he passes so she can give him the charm she made for him.
They finish loading their wagon and Tom asks if everyone has has said farewell.Brom blushes and tells them that he already told her he was leaving, and he doesn't know what else he could have said.
While they travel, John gives Brom all the tea from town, and all of a sudden Ivy shouts Brom's name and runs over to their wagon.
He blushes as she tells him that she's so glad she caught up to him, and that she tried to keep an eye out for when he'd be leaving. She notices John then, who is very excited to see her, while Brom tells her to ignore him.
Ivy offers Brom the charm she made for safety, fortune, and luck. They continue talking until John loudly clears his throat and Brom glares, but introduces him.John turns up the charm, but Ivy seems unaffected and is more nervous.
Ivy asks what types of things he's heard about her while Brom turns red and starts to sweat, but John just tells her only good things and that Brom holds her in the highest regard.
Ivy decides it's time to go, and after a quick handhold while saying goodbye, they're off again. John comments to Brom that Ivy is very pretty and Brom tells him to shut up.
I am trying to make sense of my first comment.
Oh, because she's sitting there waiting for him and she told him not to bring her a gift, but she's made him something unprompted and she's waiting there like, yeah, I'm gonna give you this gift.
Thank you for explaining my comment, because I worded it weirdly, and I was like, mm-hmm.It's only because I did these notes about 20 minutes before we came out here to Spain.
Because at first when I read it, I was like, oh yeah, she was sitting there waiting. But I think it's really cute how she wants to give him something, and she's anxious about it.So it's the new relationship jitters that are just too cute.
It is cute. And good friends and their lack of subtlety is just gold. And you're like, has everyone been said goodbye to?Have we all said our farewells?Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
And then I started laughing in my head because, um, Caitlin, you were drawn. And I am brahm with the tea situation in just every part of life.
So when I read that comment, cause I didn't read your summary, when I read the comment, I was like, tea? Yeah, were they drinking tea?I missed that and I went back and I was like, oh Let's be real I talked to five people and eavesdrop on the rest.
So that's how I learned anything Still more than me though.
So by the time you're like leaving work you're sending me voice messages like OMG guess what I learned today a lot of times not even from Oh, it's not even just like all work things. No, it's just like, oh, that makes it sound bad.No.
General life tea things. You find out things.
But I've done that from childhood.Like my parents would talk about stuff and I would mind my own business sitting there with my little Barbie coloring book.Um, and they think, She's totally not listening.
Oh, I was listening and it is how I found out lots of things because I thought I wasn't listening. You were a very good tea gatherer.
And the same thing happens now because if I don't have my headphones on at work because I know somebody has come by and they're having a It's a longer conversation than I would have expected that person to stay over by the cube.
I'll be like, wonder what it's about.Sometimes it's actual tea. Most of the time it's like, oh, I don't, that's boring.Oh yeah.We don't have a lot of like actual tea at work. It's pretty boring. It's like, why is this thing with IT not working?
Cause I sit next to the IT guy and I'm like, oh, I don't care.
It's such a good showing of Ivy's affections in her own way, that she waited for him until he waited for Brom to come by, and was so happy to see him and had her own gift for him.
It's just a much more subtle form of affection, and it was a good way to show that.
His blush at her running up to him was, because he was like, she's running to me.Like, actual forward movement.
And I don't think he expected to see her before they left.By the time John is introduced, I am pretty sure he's a little platonically in love with Ivy, too, after seeing her give Brom that charmed shirt. It was cute.
I think he's so thrilled for Brom, really.Yeah. Um, yeah, it's like when, when you have a friend who likes someone, all of a sudden you're like, Oh, I'm so excited.
And you're like freaking out in the background, which is currently happening with my, with our coworker that we're like, yeah, please meet up.So your doggies can have a play date.Um,
It has been one hour in your car.My car turned off.Good thing it's not too hot outside.I know.It is a good thing.Or, well, I'm backing up.I don't think that Brom is actually jealous in all these scenes either.No.
But I think he does expect John to pull some shenanigans.I think he's jealous of her time. That's a good point. And I feel like... I am trying to... I took these notes right before I went to bed, so I'm like, I don't understand.
Okay, so I feel like I was also freaking out the same amount as Brom about John saying something that he heard about her because he was like, I've heard things about you.And she's like, oh, what have you heard?
And so I had all the freak outs of like the combination of things Brom has said about Ivy, but also like everything that he's heard about town.
And I think it was a very good reflection of John's personality and his friendship with Brom that he only said It's always been good things, and he holds you in a very high regard.
He didn't say a word about the townsfolk, even though that's what he's known longer. So it was a solid response on John's part, and he's a much better wingman than I expected the first time around.
The goodbye hand-holding was absolutely precious. And then Brom telling John to shut up at the end. Also good.Gold.Yes.Because you do that with your friends. When they start teasing you, you're like, just shut up.Go away.
There we go, nothing like that to round her off.My cup's empty.Yeah, mine is too, for once.
Yay, go us.Well, thank you for joining us with Our Tea is Steeping for our special fifth week episode. We hope you enjoyed the little extra we got with Brahman Ivy this month.
Yeah, we hope you guys have a good Halloween if you participate. in any form of whatever, mostly of the candy-getting variety.Love the candy.Yes, yes.And we hope you join us next week for My Dear Kolbata King.I was like, what are we doing next week?
It'll be the first week of November.Weird.Where'd the year go?
