Hello and welcome back.If you are listening to today's episode and you are in the U.S., then today is election day.And while I don't want to say the results don't matter, because they do, there's certain things that truly won't matter.
And I want to talk about what you can do today in your own zone of influence, because in reality, the results, while they affect us in many ways, overall in your own home space may not affect you greatly from day to day, right?
Um, I don't want to say, I don't want to say they don't matter because I know it's very important and I've been very political lately and I truly care.
So I don't want you to think that I don't care, but what I don't want you to do is to really stress over the results either way, however they may turn out.
Welcome to the Homestead Challenge podcast, where we will finally figure out how to make homesteading work in this modern world.I'm your host, Brittany, kind of crunchy mom and fellow modern homesteader.
I've walked the path you're on, navigating burnout, overwhelm, information overload, serious lack of time, and uncertainty of where to even start. But I've also discovered a way to integrate homesteading into my modern busy life.
If you're itching to kick off your homesteading journey on your terms, you're in the right spot.
In each episode of this podcast, I'll be dishing out quick and straightforward homesteading tips, sharing home management systems, and providing modern solutions that fit seamlessly into your suburban lifestyle.
Ready to turn your homesteading goals into a reality?Join me, and together we'll navigate the world of homesteading in a way that suits our lives. So grab that sourdough starter from the back of your fridge, girl. It's time to rise.
So that can mean a lot of things. If you haven't listened to my last episode, I talked about what homesteaders really are already doing to deal with any kind of unrest or any preparedness that may need to be done.
You know, I'm recording this in advance, so I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, if it's going to be civil unrest.I'm hoping not, and I'm not predicting so, so I guess we'll see if this ages well or not.
There's a lot of things that I think homesteaders are already doing pretty right. And it doesn't matter which presidential candidate you're voting for or local. We have a lot of local issues in my area right now as well.
There's just a lot of things that we're already doing and there's a lot of things that we can do to, you know, make our home the best it's gonna be.And what I am going to call staying homesteady.
So truly, whoever wins, your home is going to remain quite the same in a number of ways. And a lot of that's going to have to do with your own neighborhood and your own community.
While there are definitely, definitely horrible, crazy people on both the left and the right, it's probably not your neighbor. You know, it's probably not the people that are bringing their kids to school that you say hi to every day.
You're probably not your next door neighbor. You would probably know, right?Like, obviously, you know, we don't know. You know, when there's like serial killers and stuff, it's always a surprise. But that's very rare, right? It's very rare.
So it's likely that your neighbor next door isn't you know, on either side. They're not hiding their pointy white hat and cloak.Or they are not trying to kill your babies. And they are not Washington politicians.
So no matter what the sign is in their yard, they're not lobbyists. They're not pocketing off of any of this from whatever side you think people are pocketing from, right? They're not pocketing from large wars or big pharma.
These are just everyday people, and what I have truly found from the people in my neighborhood, on both sides of the aisle, that I am friends with, are that all of the people, especially if they're people that are standing up for politics, are people that truly want to do and see good in the world.
The people that, even if they are loud about their candidate, they're usually loud for a reason, and it's because they want to love people, and they want to see people succeed in this crazy life that we all have to live.
I truly see it from both sides of the aisle.Yes, there are very different ways that these people think that we can get to that same, you know, end goal, really. And what the end goal looks like is a little bit different for different people.
But overall, it's not that different. Yes, there are specific hot-button issues that are different, right? But when you really get down to it, there's a lot more commonalities than there are differences.
So it's going to be a short episode today, but if you're sitting here listening to this, being nervous, awaiting the results, know that there's not much else you can do.And let's plan to do something either way, right?
No matter what the results are, make a plan for what you're gonna do after the election. How are you going to further your side's goals, right? Are you going to teach your kids about your ideologies?
Maybe you're gonna donate to somewhere like Planned Parenthood or an LGBT suicide prevention organization.Or maybe those things are not in your values and you are going to donate to
your local church, or donate to a regenerative agriculture organization, or some organization that is stopping big pharma, or whatever it is.Maybe it's a pro-life organization.
Either side, there are things that you can do in your control that are gonna have a lot more direct power than this large, giant government, right?
I think that everybody listening here has kind of come to the conclusion that the government isn't here to save us.So there's a lot of things that we should really be doing to further our own ideologies every single day.
And obviously not everybody can donate to an organization. Those were just examples of things that really you could be doing. But interestingly enough, I know that there's a few of you out there that, hey, maybe it's both.
Maybe you are left on some issues and right on some other issues. And so maybe that has caused turmoil in your own decision of who you're voting for or who you did vote for.Maybe it's causing turmoil even in your own identity.
I'm having this because, truly, still confused on a lot of things and how I feel about a lot of things. And I'm learning every day.
So maybe it's digging deeper into some issues that you're still really not sure about and listening to both sides of that issue. And maybe that's going to solidify your opinion on it in any kind of way.
And I know there's some issues that are non-negotiable for people, and that's completely understandable. But no matter what the results are, you can only stay home steady in your own home.
So I think that the first step is to really come up with a plan of what you can do to not only make yourself feel better after the results, whether it goes in your way or not, but also just really figuring out a way forward of how you can actually help
further your cause, because maybe the results don't go your way, or maybe they do.And I mean, that's great. But, you know, let's do some things at home, too, in our local areas that can really help make the world a better place in a lot of ways.
And I think that a lot of these organizations on both sides can do that. And also just helping a friend in need in a lot of these situations is really the most important thing we can do when we really look
at the small little things we can do every single day, as opposed to counting only on this one day to save us all.Because this one day is just a blip in time, and it is probably not going to be the answer to all of our problems.
Now next, what I want you to do is to plan something fun for this weekend.I don't care what it is, but it's going to be something where you can unplug.I don't want you to be on your phone.
So whatever you want to do this weekend, you pick if it's going to be hiking out in nature. For me, I am going to be going to a holiday craft show because I am that girl that is totally already starting to put out my Christmas stuff over here.
And I don't care if you don't think that that is the thing to do, because that's what I'm doing, right? So you choose what your event is going to be, but I want you to pick something fun to do.
This is going to give you something to look forward to all week.Maybe it's a fun restaurant that you've been wanting to go to.It doesn't matter.Whatever this thing is, do it.And while you do it, get off your phone. and have fun.
But what I'm looking most forward to at the craft show this weekend are the right-wing grannies quilting and selling their stuff, and then also the lefties bringing on their coffee trucks with the best baristas in town, because I think that together, both sides are what makes America great.
Thank you for listening to this short episode.I truly hope that you're not feeling super stressed today. And as I am looking to this from a day ahead, I am hoping and praying that we deal with as little unrest and violence as possible.
I hope and pray that, you know, everybody realizes that there are definitely things that we can do to make America a wonderful place right here at home.Until next time, friends.
