Hey, welcome to Dad's Space. This is Dave. It's a little different music this time around.Yeah, a little different. What are we doing?Well, this is National Podcast Post Month. What does that mean to you?
It means to you that you're going to get 30 episodes in 30 days.
30 i know right and the idea is that as podcasters we're going to create episodes and supportive national podcast post month they call it hashtag na pod pomo for those at home that are keeping score but the idea is that we just create content for you
daily in the month of November.
So we are focusing on some great people that have been past guests on the show and friends of the show, answering questions about dads and giving you some feedback, and then also adding in some of the books that I found and resources I found as a fellow dad that could help you possibly on your journey as a dad.
So that's kind of what we're focusing on this month, and I'm excited to share this with you. It's going to be a great month, and today's episode is part of that.
I'm excited to share with you a new resource, possibly new to you, and tell you my thoughts about it here on Dead Space.Glad to be with you.
The other big part of November, which I'm excited to also bring forward for those that are unaware, is we call it also Mo-vember.What is Mo-vember?It's when the mustache is calling.
It is our time as men to unite, to take on mental health, suicide, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and all of that is to shine a light on men's mental health and men's physical health. And we're celebrating Movember as well.
Link in the show notes for you to see how you can support is to raise money and awareness for men. So on top of doing National Podcast Post Month, this month is always focused on you as well as men.
We're here to support you and to let you know that there's a community around you that's wishing and searching for the best for you as men.So happy Movember, everyone, as well.Let's get into the podcast.
Okay, so this month in November, we're gonna be doing lots of episodes, and some of these episodes are gonna be around resources for you as a dad.
So if you're a young dad, soon to be dad, I'm an old dad, my kids are out of the house, so I'm at the other end of this spectrum. But if you're found out you're going to be a dad, hey, congratulations.
Like, oh my gosh, this is like a huge, huge thing for you.Your life will never be the same. You're always going to be a dad. which is pretty cool.
So one of the books I would suggest for you, it's got some great reviews and something you might want to take a read or listen to.It is called, You Will Rock as a Dad, The Expert Guide to First-Time Pregnancy and Everything New Fathers Need to Know.
So I wanted to share just some thoughts around this book.I'll have a link for you in the show notes so you can grab a copy or again, listen to it.
This is a comprehensive guide designed specifically for first-time fathers navigating challenges and the joys of impending parenthood. This book serves as an essential resource for new dads.
It really gives a lot of great practical advice and support for you as you transform in the process of this new life coming into your world, right? Yeah, I think this is a great resource for you.So the target audience for this book, this is a guide.
It's ideal for expectant fathers, so if you're having a baby soon, who feel overwhelmed by the prospect of becoming a dad.
I know that as much as I felt strong in the moment that I was going to be a great dad, I had a lot of doubts, a lot of personal doubts. But I can even do this and do this well. Can I be a good support for my wife?
How am I gonna parent different than my dad?Ah, like there's so much. And then just the pressure of realizing that it's on me.When all the family goes home and that door shuts and I'm in my home with my wife and my new baby, it's just me.
And all those family members go back to normal life and you're on your own. Yeah, there's a lot of common fears that all dads have, just various degrees, and this book is gonna help you with that.So some highlights, content-wise, from the book.
They talk about understanding fears. The book begins by exploring the typical anxieties faced by first-time dads, and they give some strategies to help overcome these fears. As well, modern dad's essentials.
This book covers crucial topics from understanding newborn appearances to mental preparation for baby care, as well, birth planning. Here we go.
Readers are guided through creating a birth plan, including key questions to consider with your partner during the process. What a great conversation starter for the two of you.And then this one is really important, is supporting your partner.
This guide emphasizes the importance of being there for your partner during pregnancy, addressing the symptoms and cravings and mood swings and the needs and wants and anticipating, instead of being asked, all of those things.
The support for your partner all the way through pregnancy, all the way through delivery and then coming home, all of that. It's on you and you need a good resource. So I definitely suggest this book as well.
Maintaining relationships, tips on keeping the romance alive post baby. It's also included here in the book as alongside advice on navigating postpartum challenges.Okay.Some practical advice in this book as well.Your prenatal visits.
Encouragement to attend your prenatal appointments with your partner. And what to expect during these visits. You're gonna go into that little room and a doctor's gonna be there and yeah, things are gonna happen.Your packing lists.I remember this.
Having that go bag by the door.Yeah, your packing list, detailed list of the items that you're gonna need for the hospital and the baby care essentials. When you take your partner to the hospital, Be prepared to stay. You might be sitting in that room.
You might be sitting in a waiting room. You're gonna be in the hospital. So you need to bring with you all the things you need to be self-sufficient during the time you're there. So you need that packed bag ready to go.
And they provide help with a packing list. And then as well, the signs of labor.Clear indicators that it's time for you to head to the hospital when labor begins.Again, this is all new for you.
You can go to a class, but when it comes time to make the call, it's time to go, you need to be ready.
So there's a unique approach for this book, unlike many other parenting books that offer kind of vague comparisons of fetal growth to fruits or vegetables. This guide dives deeply into the realities of fatherhood.
It combines humor, practical advice, and it makes it relatable and engaging for dads with a sense of humor. You're gonna have to work on your dad jokes.
Just overview for the book, as we kind of go through this quickly, but just wanted to share this with you.
You Will Rock as a Dad is not just a book, it's more of a supportive companion for you as a new father that is eager to learn and grow into your role as a dad.
With this thorough coverage of pregnancy and early fatherhood, it stands out as a must-read gift for any dad to be looking to embrace this life-changing experience that's ahead for you, and to give you confidence in the process.
So this is the book, and I'd love for you to grab a copy, maybe start reading it now during the pregnancy, or you just found out you're going to be having a baby. You Will Rock As A Dad is a great book for you to add to your portfolio.
And again, you can even listen to it.So if you want to listen instead, if you're not a reader, you can listen to it.And that way you can listen to it over and over again. You're going to need something to listen to in the hospital.
So I would suggest looking into these as resources and start the search and the journey of learning now.The sooner you start, the better. And if you're nervous about all this, you're like, I just want to talk to another dad.I got a lot of questions.

Happy Movember, everybody.
We all know a man of few words, a man who wasn't exactly gifted the gab. With him, it's always a one-sided conversation. He was once told that a picture says a thousand words, which is why he never posts them.
Invite him for a quiet one, and you'll get exactly that. How's work? And when asked to say a few words... Mark Davis.
Well done, Mark.Come up here.Come on.
Thanks. He takes it literally.Sure and sweet, Mark. He's the type of man who'd sing an instrumental at karaoke. He's often described as a good listener. But he's never been famous for his goodbyes.
But even a man of the fewest words knows that when times are tough, a few words just aren't enough. So if you're feeling like things just aren't quite right, be a man of more words.Tell someone.Because talking saves lives.
