Is the Bible killing you?According to Pastor Andrew, the answer is yes.Political turmoil.Revealing the chaos.Prepare for the startling reality of the U.S.What?Are you starting to see what the algorithm likes to give me?
So for a little context, this episode is going to release after the election, but we're a few days ahead of the U.S.election in 2024.And it's really like not even a lot of the stuff that I receive is election related or political related.
You can see there's a little bit of an uptick in it.It seems recently with some of this stuff, but then just like the, is the Bible killing you?Divine mistake. political turmoil, like all this stuff, okay?
These are just a few of the roughly 40 spam emails, maybe 50 per day, that I've been getting over the past few weeks.
And it's been, it's really, and this is just my random email, it's like my random Gmail account, my personal email, I have a couple other emails as well, like, who doesn't?Who doesn't have at least three email accounts in this world that we live in?
But anyway, maybe three to five important emails that I get per day, and then 40 to 50 spam is where we're at right now.
Not a huge deal, because I don't do that much business off of email, so to speak, at least not my personal email, whatever, anyway.
And when I look at this, I was talking to a friend earlier about this, and it's like, I feel like over the past few years, I feel like the number of spam things that I get has quadrupled. And see, I've kind of tried.
I've done the different strategies to get rid of it.
First, you can do the unsubscribe, which then one person told me who works in the industry or in the tech industry said, well, actually, if you unsubscribe, that's a bad idea because then they know that it's a real email.
They're like, oh, that person clicked on something. Now let's hit them from a different angle. So maybe unsubscribe is apparently a bad idea. Then I'll do the thing where you just put them all automatically in spam, or then I'll just leave them alone.
Sometimes I'll trash them.I've tried the different strategies to get rid of it, and it's a struggle. And this is just on email alone. This is not even text messages, not even SMS, not even WhatsApp, not even Instagram.
It's only one of the many messaging services that we have.
Now, the timing in front of the election is interesting here because when I look at all of the issues we have going on in the world at a micro and macro level, you would think I would be here talking about something like, okay, well, we got the prospect of nuclear war or a civil war in the United States or all this stuff, you know, and like all of it.
All of it is legit. There's climate change, right? There's, oh my God, what if, you know, cities are underwater?
They've been saying that for a while now, but like, when I talk about the biggest issue that you're gonna have in 2030, there's all of these crazy global things and global events that we hear about happening, yet the biggest problem is probably right in your pocket.
It's on that stupid phone that we get all of these notifications on.Because we live in a world where most of us are very unproductive. We're not very productive.
Yet all day long we're having to do these things with these notifications and these messages and these emails and everything on these phones and on these devices and on this technology.
I would argue that most of us spend most of our day in this chaos, this melee of these different messages and these people or potentially bots that we think that we have to respond to and these notifications that we get, and it is quadrupled.
I swear to you, the number of, not even just spam, but just notifications of things in general that I get has quadrupled just in the past few years. It's going up exponentially.
Digital message management is the most important skill in the 21st century and the need for it is growing.Over the last 10-15 years as we've exponentially gotten into this world of digital messaging, we have been slowly killing ourselves with it.
We are bombarding ourselves every day in modern society in messages, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, notifications, triple reminder for this, for that, for whatever. Then when you add the spam to it, it's overwhelming and it's chaotic.
Like right now, okay, and I don't even get that many right now.Heck, I'm a personal trainer. When I used to work a corporate job, it was way worse with the emails.Back then, it was probably 200-ish emails per day.
Like right now, and I wasn't even high level.Like high level, people get like 1,000 a day. They get CC'd on a bajillion emails and all that crap.
Like even me right now, I probably only get, I probably get less than 100 emails a day, even if you include all the spam. And that ain't bad. There's a lot of people that get way, way more than that.
If you can talk about multiple email accounts, work personal and everything. And then like the notifications and messages on the phone.I mean, I don't know.I don't think 10 minutes goes by that I don't get some sort of a notification.
And a lot of them are kind of useless, but you get my point.Like we've been mostly bombarding ourselves with these messages, especially over the last five years, I would say. Now, if you look forward a little, let's say six years from now, 2030,
When you think about the fact that it's been multiplying, kind of exponentially, I would say, over the past few years, the number of random messages and notifications we get, and the number of useful ones is pretty low, but like the total number is like multiplying, expanding exponentially.
If we assume everything stays the same,
and we assume that we're still on these same platforms, that we use email, that we use SMS, maybe WhatsApp, whatever messaging services, if you assume that the means of communication stay the same, could you imagine the amount of clutter that you're gonna deal with if it keeps exponentially growing for six more years?
in 2030, because I'm someone, I can't think clearly if I don't have the clutter cleared. And it's digital clutter nowadays. It's all these, because I have a high level of conscientiousness, so I tell people I need to get back to them.
I need to get back to people within 24 hours when they message me with something. And it becomes almost impossible. And so it's like a matter of trying to clear the clutter, because most of it's just clutter.
Very few of it is actual people who need to talk to me that bad. It's just clutter and BS messages and notifications. But it's more and more clutter. and it's overwhelming, and we don't know what to do about it.We're just like swimming in it.
And very few of us really take the time to realize that we have almost no control of our lives because of this.
When you wake up and the first thing you do is look at your phone, and then probably the last thing you do before you go to bed is look at your phone, it's controlling your life, my friend. And it's only getting worse.
And that's what's interesting, is that we've got all of these potential big issues, which I can't even talk straight.Like, do I have a problem today?Which could happen, which could happen, yet I think the biggest issue is just right in our pockets.
It's right in our pockets. It's the biggest problem that I have in my life right now, is being overwhelmed by all these notifications. And in 2030, If it keeps going on that same path, I can't even imagine where we're going to be at.
Think about that.I'm tired of these people spamming me.I don't wanna frickin' talk to you, but I don't know how to frickin' get your messages away from me, and I'm also tired of these people telling me, hey, how's your fitness business going?
I can help you get clients.I'm possibly a real person. Please pay me $1,000 a month and I'll do this for you. That way you can get clients and make $1,010 a month. It's a $10 profit for you.Shut up.I'm tired of this.
Oh my God.This world. All right, end rant.Think through that.Get control of your notifications.Respond to things in batches.I've talked about this before.Don't be on your phone all day.
It's very tough, but digital message management is the most important skill in the 21st century.I have other episodes where I talk in detail about strategies and how to do it better, okay?Love y'all.Talk again soon.Peace.
