Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jack Speier.Heading into Election Day and the days of vote counting that will follow, misinformation and disinformation are once again major problems.

But as we hear from NPR's Shannon Bond, the government also is keeping an eye on bad actors abroad and moving quickly.
And we're also seeing the federal government being more proactive, calling more of the stuff out publicly.Like just last week, there was this fake video going around of ballots being torn up in the swing state of Pennsylvania.
And just a day later, we had intelligence officials come out publicly and say it was a Russian fake.We just haven't seen them move that quickly before.
MPR's Shannon Bond.Vice President Harris will spend election night at her alma mater, Howard University. That's according to a person familiar with her campaign plans who spoke on condition of anonymity.MPR's Deepa Shivram has more.
The HBCU is a personal location for Harris, who often talks about the impact Howard had on her identity and her desire to become a lawyer.Howard is where she pledged her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha.
And when Harris launched her first presidential campaign back in 2019, she made the formal announcement from Howard.Harris is the first vice president to have graduated from a historically black college or university.
And if elected, she'll make history again.Harris has included the university in her campaign in a number of ways. She camped out at Howard for debate prep in August and has often talked about her work in the Biden administration to invest in HBCUs.

Biomedical researchers need to change how they use race and ethnicity in their research. That is the conclusion of a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. Here's NPR's Maria Godoy.
Race and ethnicity are used widely in biomedical research. That in turn influences clinical guidelines and algorithms that help determine what kind of care patients get.
In the new report, the National Academy says sometimes racial and ethnic categories are used inappropriately as substitutes for factors like genetics or environmental exposures, and this can contribute to the mistaken notion that racial and ethnic groups are biologically distinct when they are not.
It says this can also result in worse medical care for patients of color. The report offers recommendations for scientists, funders, and scientific publications to use race and ethnicity in a more ethical and scientifically sound way.
It comes as part of a broader movement to root out bias in medicine.Maria Godoy, NPR News.
