Beyond the Mic with Sean Dillon.
We're joined on the star line by a pair of characters. One is an award winning actor and comedian. The other is a Los Angeles radio legend.Every Tuesday they share research on answers to the things that make us go, really? No, really?
We welcome Jason Alexander and Peter Tilden.
Wow, nicely said, Sean. You read the title perfectly.
Friends, let's go beyond Mike. You've talked to Mike Rowe, an expert on sleep tourism, airline safety among nearly 100 conversations.Which episode were you not sure about, but was one of the best?Oh, we got it.Can I do that? You want to do it?
Yeah, go ahead. So, I'm always nervous when I find the guest, because it's up to me and Jason will go, really?Really? Not really? You put this guy on?
So, we've been pretty lucky that most of the episodes, almost every episode didn't let us down, but the Forgiveness Institute.I saw, there's really? Not really? There's a Forgiveness Institute?
And I vet the guest and I try and watch and see what they do, and he came on. And in a world that's really divided today, and we try and have an uplifting show that's funny but gives you information, God blew us away.
Blew us away about how we have to forgive ourselves and how you forgive other people. And it went so deep, and it was so emotional, that I think that was, of all the episodes, it was the most moving and surprising.
We have one sometimes, Sean, where we think we kind of have an angle on it.Like the guy who we found out there's a serious science project going on where they're trying to re-establish the woolly mammoth, bring back the woolly mammoth.
And we thought, OK, this is the most ridiculous thing. We bring the head of the program on.And I'm saying to him, have you not seen Jurassic Park? What's wrong with you?Don't you know this doesn't go well?
Within 20 minutes, he had our heads spun around about what he's actually doing and how potentially vital it could be to not only saving certain species of animals, but saving the planet. He's not actually trying to bring back the woolly mammoth.
That's just the log part of it, right? He's doing something else. And that's when our heads spin around and go, oh my God, who knew?
How has this podcast changed the way you think about each other?
Look, I love Jason. He's been my best friend forever. We've been through so much stuff together, and he's just the most loyal friend. It's amazing.People say, is he like George Costanza?
I don't ever see that because Jason's, like I said, truly a friend. It's changed us because it gives us more opportunity to spend time together and compare stuff together and learn stuff together.
That's the great thing that we get to share all of this stuff.Look, we wouldn't be doing this.We wouldn't be on your show if we weren't doing this podcast.I'd have to find something else so we could spend time together.
I'd be sleeping.I don't know about you.I'd still be asleep.
So, I love spending time with him.So, that's how it's changed me as we get older. We've gone through all different ages.
You go through when you're in your 30s and your 40s and your 50s and you get older, we get to go through those ages together and kind of help each other through that.
and for me it's it's it's a greater appreciation of what peter's been doing for such a long time you know you we only see i'm sure shown this is true of you to your audience knows you as as the guy on the air they don't know what you do to turn on that microphone and start doing this show same with me and peter i knew him as my friend was on radio but watching him do this research book these guests figure out the angle figure out the segments how we're going to present it you know to see
the true experienced professional behind this. It's not just, you don't just turn on a microphone and go, oh, I got a question. You know, it's given me an appreciation for his abilities that are pretty amazing.
Those two, really? No, really?Peter Tilden and Jason Alexander.Join us behind the mic for The Rocky Nate. All this is is eight random questions.Answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There's no pressure.
Peter, favorite person you've ever interviewed, and don't kiss up to Jason.Oh boy, favorite that I've ever interviewed?Tom McCartney.Jason, how about your favorite Broadway show ever?Pippin.Peter, who's the best classic rock musician of all time?
Geez, wow, best classic rock musician.Wow, I'm saying, let's say Hendrix, just because it's easy, but yeah, there's so many.Jason, when was the last place Peter took you to dinner?
Peter, what's the longest you've allowed your hair to grow out?Oh my gosh, I had a fro so big you couldn't get through a door.
Jason, give three words to describe Larry David.Hysterical.
and here's the one that will that will shock you at the end of the day mench everyone should have a good mench yeah peter what's the best thing about jason loyalty this one's gonna be tough jason your favorite magician of all time oh wow that's hard that's really hard uh... i love i love a lot of kinds of magic and a lot of kinds of magicians but i am what i wanted to be was the thing that my friend derrick delgadio does and if you haven't seen his special in and of itself i think it's on uh...
Disney or Netflix, you can do yourself a favor and watch it.He is a brilliant, not only technical magician, but a conceptualist, and he's one of my favorites.
Tom, for one big question with Jason Alexander and Peter Tilden, be on the mic.Friends, what was the last moment of kindness, compassion, laughter, charity or grace you've experienced, and why is kindness needed so much today?
Peter. Worry, um, I experienced it all the time.My friends, we have a doctor friend that's come close to half of his practice is pro bono.Jason, Jason, I was in a really tough situation with my son two, three weeks ago.And Jason came through, man.
He always does. And that was, that was huge.Jason.
Sean, it's one that is presented to me all the time, literally almost every day.Doing this Seinfeld show, doing what I do for a living is joyful for me.I love what I do.I love what I get to do.It's made me a happy, happy living.
I always thought it would be a pleasant thing for audiences if we did the right stuff.
But what I didn't expect, and people give me this act of kindness all the time, they will come up to me and say, I was going through really dark stuff, really hard, hard times.
Either I lost a parent or a child or I was ill or I was serving overseas or just hard times. And you, your work, the things you were doing, made me laugh, brought me back some joy, and got me through.
They don't realize when they tell me that, that that is a gift they give to me and my mom, because my mom always said to me, I want you to live a life of service. And I did not think being an actor was a life of service.
When they share that with me, and I can actually look up at the heavens and say, Mom, I might be serving somebody, it's a real gift.
Peter once had a big throat.Jason loves Pippin and they want you to join them every Tuesday for the things that make us go, really?
No, really?By the way, can I say one thing? We got a second here.We got anyone in your audience celebrates Festivus, but really is all in on Festivus.
