You are listening to Episode 177 of the Remind Yourself Podcast. Welcome to the Remind Yourself Podcast, the podcast for physician moms just like you who want to ditch mom guilt, stop yelling, and start enjoying their lives today.
00:00:21 Speaker_00
I'm your host, Rachelle Chestevich, certified life coach, family physician, and mom of four. If you want to overcome overwhelm for once and for all, this is the place for you. Hello, Mama Docs, and welcome back.
00:00:39 Speaker_00
It is the last week of July, and I hope thus far your summer has been delightful. It's not too late to squeeze in some things that you are hoping to do, whether it's a trip to the farmer's market, a bike ride as a friend, or a picnic in the park.
00:00:53 Speaker_00
Not that you need to cram in more things, but just take a deep breath. and exhale. I know just around the corner there will be back to school shopping at Target. Perhaps there already is. I have not been in a while.
00:01:07 Speaker_00
But let's just take time to enjoy this last few weeks or month of summer and do a few little things that you enjoy doing. One of my whole philosophies is, hey, yes, you work hard as a physician, and two, you can find time to enjoy your life.
00:01:23 Speaker_00
Today I'm gonna share with you a concept that I absolutely love, and the clients that I've worked with have heard me say it again and again, and they will often bring it up to me, and I think it is so valuable, and so I'm super excited to share it with you.
00:01:37 Speaker_00
And this is the concept, that turning the dial ever so slightly in a direction we wanna go makes a huge difference. Said differently, little changes can lead to huge results. Now, we high achievers think, okay, I want to make a change.
00:01:55 Speaker_00
I want to start getting my notes done faster. I want to start exercising regularly. And we go big and we think that we have to get perfection or it's not even worth it.
00:02:05 Speaker_00
You've heard me say again, and in fact, I've got a podcast coming up in the future to reiterate that we look for progress, not perfection. That being said, just making a subtle change will change the trajectory and change your result.
00:02:21 Speaker_00
You know, you've heard this before, if a ship or a airplane gets off by one degree, it can end up hundreds of miles from its intended destination, right? One degree change can make a huge difference.
00:02:36 Speaker_00
So you don't need to do a 180 in order for your life to improve and things to get better.
00:02:43 Speaker_00
And I love sharing this with you, because so many of you reach out and say, wow, this is so helpful, but I'm afraid that that won't work for me, or I think that's going to take too much time or effort. Here's what I will tell you.
00:02:56 Speaker_00
A subtle change, a slight turning of the dial in an area of your life, changes the trajectory. That's all that's needed. So let's talk about an example of this. You know, I offer a masterclass often.
00:03:09 Speaker_00
I will be having one come up in early September about like how to stop working at night, which includes how to chart more efficiently, how to deal with your inbox, how to set boundaries, all of those sorts of things.
00:03:20 Speaker_00
But if you've heard this before or started to do this work, you don't need to do it all at once. Choose one thing. That alone. can change the trajectory.
00:03:31 Speaker_00
If you do one thing and set some boundaries with your patient inbox messages, that will give you a different result. And when that feels comfortable, then you can change something else.
00:03:43 Speaker_00
I think a lot of people hear these sorts of good ideas or read a book about, you know, stress reduction or, you know, how to be more mindful, whatever it might be. And we think that we just need to wipe everything clear Like, my life isn't working.
00:04:00 Speaker_00
It's too stressful and overwhelming. I have to change everything. Do you know what? That's really frustrating and exhausting. And maybe for a little bit when it's novel, like you'll continue with whatever the plan is.
00:04:11 Speaker_00
But it becomes kind of mundane and tiresome. And it seems like a lot of work when you have all these things to do. Case in point, New Year's resolutions, right? When people think, I gotta change everything and do all the things. Doesn't last very long.
00:04:25 Speaker_00
So I want to remind you. That subtle changes, a one degree turn of the dial can make a huge difference. We talk often when I'm working with clients about even just in the beginning of if you want to change something, just becoming aware.
00:04:43 Speaker_00
Where are the struggles in my life? What are the things during the day that just make my blood pressure rise and I get a headache and chest pressure? Starting to accumulate that data and information is huge. That is even just turning
00:04:57 Speaker_00
one degree of knowledge, right? You're having one degree increase of awareness. That's the start of making change. So if you're new to this podcast, welcome. I'm so glad you're here. I certainly advise you go back and take a listen.
00:05:11 Speaker_00
But as this is number 177, there's a lot of things that I've shared over the years. And you don't have to do them all. See what resonates with you.
00:05:23 Speaker_00
see an area of your life where wow this is a huge source of stress and consternation in my life and think to yourself instead of like oh my god I have to change everything and how do I know that because I've done that before and in fact it was interesting I was getting out some things my family's going camping next week and I was getting some things out of the storage closet and something you know I was just in a bit of a state of disarray and I thought to myself I
00:05:47 Speaker_00
I just have to get rid of everything and start over. So I get it when our brains get real dramatic and have this all or nothing thinking like I have to do everything or nothing.
00:05:56 Speaker_00
No, my friends, it can be so much easier and you can get such amazing results by turning the dial slightly. Small changes can lead to big results. Think about where you want to make a slight change and do it subtly. It should feel painless, right?
00:06:16 Speaker_00
And again, know that I'm here to help. This is exactly the work that I do with my clients, either one-on-one or in my StressRx group coaching for physician women. This is what I do.
00:06:27 Speaker_00
I help you see that it is possible to make changes by doing subtle, slight things differently, and then you start to realize, wow, I was getting done with my messages during the day. Wow, I'm now getting 50% of my notes done.
00:06:41 Speaker_00
It used to be that I had 100% left at the end of the day, and now I'm getting half of them done. And several weeks later, oh my goodness, now 90% of my notes are getting done. It is possible for you, and it begins with making just a slight shift.
00:06:55 Speaker_00
I will say it one more time, small changes can lead to big results. Okay, if you are interested in doing this work with me and alongside other amazing physician women, my next group of StressRx is starting in September.

00:07:49 Speaker_00
Now, again, full disclosure, life is stressful. I'm not going to get rid of all of it. You don't want to get rid of all of it. but I'm gonna help you make it feel manageable.
00:07:57 Speaker_00
