00:00:30 Speaker_05
Hi Neil, how are you doing?

00:00:32 Speaker_00
I'm very well. Beth, how are you?

00:00:34 Speaker_05
I'm good, thank you. I've been watching Race Across the World.

00:00:38 Speaker_00
Ah, TV. Do you like watching TV?

00:00:43 Speaker_05
It depends. If I really like a show, then yes. Today we're talking all about television. We'll talk about some of the shows we watch and why we like them. So Neil, do you watch a lot of television?

00:00:59 Speaker_00
No, actually I don't. I think probably I spend more time thinking about what to watch on television than watching because there's so much choice. But I do like to watch things like live sport on TV.

00:01:18 Speaker_05
OK, that's good.

00:01:20 Speaker_00
How about you, Beth?

00:01:21 Speaker_05
Um, I watch some programs if I really like them, but a lot of the time if there's a show I really like, I binge watch it.

00:01:33 Speaker_05
That means I watch several episodes of a TV series in a row because then I get to enjoy it all at the same time rather than having to wait for the next episode because there is some really addictive TV out there.

00:01:49 Speaker_00
Yeah. Do you enjoy watching reality TV? That's programmes about real people rather than actors.

00:01:58 Speaker_05
I like some reality TV. So, for example, we have a show in the UK called The Great British Bake Off, where real people compete with making cakes and biscuits and that kind of thing.

00:02:13 Speaker_05
And I like that show, but I'm not really a big fan of other reality shows like dating shows and Big Brother, that sort of thing.

00:02:23 Speaker_00
Have you ever been obsessed with a TV show where you just cannot stop watching or talking about it?

00:02:32 Speaker_05
Not recently. When I was younger I really liked some big American TV shows and I was addicted to them because they had really big cliffhangers. That means at the end of the episode there was a big shock and I couldn't wait to watch the next one.

00:02:50 Speaker_00
A few years ago, there were lots of dramas from Scandinavian countries like Sweden and Denmark and I was obsessed with some of those. I watched them and I talked about them all the time.

00:03:05 Speaker_05
Were they crime dramas or thrillers?

00:03:09 Speaker_00
Some were crime, some were legal and political, all kinds. I loved them.

00:03:15 Speaker_05
OK, that sounds quite good. Is there a programme that you have really enjoyed recently on TV?

00:03:23 Speaker_00
Yeah, I've seen some really interesting documentaries about very serious topics like war, for example, that have been very interesting.

00:03:34 Speaker_05
Yeah, I have seen documentaries like that too recently.

00:03:38 Speaker_05
There are quite a lot around at the moment and I think it's also interesting to learn about what's happening in the world because TV is there to enjoy but also if you manage to learn something at the same time then I think that is a bonus.

00:03:57 Speaker_00
So Beth, you like a programme about baking. What do you like about it?

00:04:03 Speaker_05
Well, I think it's interesting to see people cooking because in normal life, you don't see people making cakes. You just make them at home. And sometimes they do really well. They make incredible cakes and pies and I think, wow, how do they do that?

00:04:22 Speaker_05
And then sometimes it's funny because they do really badly. So I think it's just a good, enjoyable program to relax. What about you, Neil, with these Scandinavian dramas? Why did you like them?

00:04:39 Speaker_00
I think the stories were very interesting and I really liked listening to the language and because I watched so many of these programmes with subtitles, after a while I thought that I could speak Swedish.

00:04:58 Speaker_05
And can you speak Swedish? No.

00:05:08 Speaker_00
Let's recap the vocabulary we learned during the conversation. We had binge watch – watch lots of episodes of a TV series in a row.

00:05:18 Speaker_05
Reality TV – programmes about real people rather than actors.

00:05:24 Speaker_00
And obsessed – unable to stop thinking about something.

00:05:31 Speaker_05

Yoga is more than just exercise. It's the spiritual practice that millions swear by. And in 2017, Miranda, a university tutor from London, joins a yoga school that promises profound transformation.

00:06:39 Speaker_03
It felt a really safe and welcoming space. After the yoga classes, I felt amazing.

00:06:46 Speaker_01
But soon, that calm, welcoming atmosphere leads to something far darker, a journey that leads to allegations of grooming, trafficking and exploitation across international borders.

00:07:00 Speaker_03
I don't have my passport, I don't have my phone, I don't have my bank cards, I have nothing.

00:07:04 Speaker_04
The passport being taken, the being in a house and not feeling like they can leave.

00:07:11 Speaker_01
World of Secrets is where untold stories are unveiled and hidden realities are exposed. In this new series, we're confronting the dark side of the wellness industry, where the hope of a spiritual breakthrough gives way to disturbing accusations.

00:07:26 Speaker_02
You just get sucked in so gradually. and it's done so skillfully that you don't realise. And it's like this, this secret that's there.

00:07:38 Speaker_03
I wanted to believe that, you know, that whatever they were doing, even if it seemed gross to me, was for some spiritual reason that I couldn't yet understand. Revealing the hidden secrets of a global yoga network. I feel that I have no other choice.

00:07:59 Speaker_03
The only thing I can do is to speak about this and to put my reputation and everything else on the line. I want truth and justice. and for other people to not be hurt, for things to be different in the future.

00:08:20 Speaker_02
To bring it into the light and almost alchemise some of that evil stuff that went on and take back the power.
