Hello, everyone. Yetseed here. Today we will be talking about an amazing app I discovered a couple years back called Duolingo.

00:00:15 Speaker_00
This app I discovered when I was going to France and I was going with my classmates and I was a little afraid as to how I was going to communicate to people, what if I needed help and I didn't know what to do.

And so I just simply wanted to practice a little extra before going on this trip. So I downloaded Duolingo and it honestly became my best friend. Once, I feel like a lot of the times that I was over there in France it like

00:00:44 Speaker_00
really saved me just knowing the basics and just being able to have practice as much as I did with this super amazing app. So what is Duolingo? Duolingo is an app that just allows you overall to personalize your learning.

00:01:02 Speaker_00
You're able to adapt your lessons into your style and allow you to review and learn vocabulary effectively. You're also able to receive immediate grading, which allows you to practice to see where you can better and improve.

00:01:19 Speaker_00
It also gives you rewards every time. So you're able to earn virtual coins, unlock new levels, and watch your fluency score rise. This allows you to stay motivated and just overall excited, and it helps you improve very quickly.

00:01:39 Speaker_00
So what did I learn about this tool? I found out that it's a great app for beginners. You can use it as a mobile app as well as being able to use it on laptops and computers.

00:01:52 Speaker_00
That being said, you're able to do it on tablets or whatever you have at your school. And the vocabulary is grouped by topics, making it easier to go into new levels and learn bits and bits of your basics. So how can we use this in the classroom?

00:02:13 Speaker_00
That's the important question, isn't it? As future teachers, we want to know, is this app really worth downloading? Is it gonna better my classroom? So this app is a created platform to help educators track and encourage the progress of their students.

00:02:31 Speaker_00
It also allows you to create different groups inside Duolingo and invite students to join using a customized link.

00:02:39 Speaker_00
On your online dashboard, it has a detailed list that views how often your students use the app, how many points they earn, as well as how many lessons and skills they have completed.

00:02:52 Speaker_00
This is a great component because you're able to see why your students aren't improving in the classroom and what you can do to better it, as well as where they're struggling.

00:03:02 Speaker_00
And there's no more time for those excuses that they like to use as, I didn't have enough practice because you can see how much time they were really spending on it. You can also add a filter that allows you to

00:03:17 Speaker_00
do subgroups, known as sections, which are created for you, for languages, or it allows you to set a time period so you're able to see the progress of a subgroup of students in the past week or the past month.

00:03:31 Speaker_00
Besides being able to track the progress of your students, you can also create group interaction by using the classroom practice mode. This is available inside the dashboard.

00:03:46 Speaker_00
Using this option, Duolingo designs a series of exercises that match the level of progress of your students so you can solve them as a group.

00:03:56 Speaker_00
So if I wanted to put this up on a projector and just overall help my class work together as a team and they can say their answers out loud. So how do I plan on experimenting with this?

00:04:12 Speaker_00
I began experimenting with it when I was going to France, and I have continued to look at the new advances that the app has to practice my French.

00:04:25 Speaker_00
I one day hope to move to France for a little and just be able to be a bilingual teacher over there and teaching French and English. So having this just to start me off before I get really advanced would be an awesome tool.

00:04:42 Speaker_00
And I also really want to experiment with this classroom app. It'd be great to use as a bilingual teacher and I just want to test it out. So. For a future tool in my classroom, I do plan on using this with my classroom.

00:04:59 Speaker_00
I want to strengthen, not only my Spanish dominant speaking students, my ESL learners, but as well as my English students. I want them to be able to practice their Spanish in a great, fun, innovative way. So by using this app,

00:05:18 Speaker_00
I'll be able to allow the students to have a little bit more fun time, be able to do that on their own, as well as being able to work on it as a classroom.

00:05:29 Speaker_00
Overall, it's an amazing app, and I definitely recommend it to all you future teachers, especially those of you going into bilingual education. So that's a wrap.
